You'll need him for di Maria, Hibbert would get roasted.
Yep Hibberts legs have gone, normally he would be a good option on Di Maria because in his day he was very good defensively even though he was awful on the ball.
Coleman made his debut against Di Maria when we played Benfica in the Europa years ago and Di Maria absolutely tortured him and they won 5-1. Coleman is the type of character to be pumped up for the game though because of it.

Right, hopefully Jones returns for this... It's anyone's guess who'll replace Herrera in the side.

Reckon fletcher will start now for Herrera, and mata will almost definitely start instead of Rooney to have more people good on the ball and who can keep possession which we lose as Herrera is out.

    So...
    de Gea
    Rafael McNair Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Fletcher di Maria
    Mata
    van Persie Falcao
With Jones replacing McNair if he is fully fit.

Still a good enough side to put Everton to the sword. Sure if di Maria shows up he can win the game single handily.

If we replace Rooney and Herrera with Mata and Fletcher we are losing a huge amount of dynamism. I'd like to see Januzaj in for this one.

Wont be surprised to see Andreas pereira play this one. LVG wont be afraid to play him, i think he will do a good job. Fletcher is finished at this level. I hope he just gives way to andreas now. This game will be too quick for carrick, i was wishing he would be back .

Coleman should be fit, even if Distin is fit he won't start over Stones.
Wanted di maria vs hibbert, coleman will be difficult to handle going forward.

Praying we don't play a 4-4-2 with a midfield of Di Maria, Fletcher, Blind and Valencia...

Agreed. With Everton's threat in wide areas too, I think we should drop the diamond formation for a game, especially with Herrera out.

    Something like;

    de Gea
    Rafael - Jones/Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Januzaj - Fletcher - Blind - di Maria
    Mata
    Falcao

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones/Smalling, Carrick, Fellaini, Valencia, Pereira, van Persie

    My team would be:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    Blind
    Fellaini - Di Maria
    Mata
    Van Persie - Falcao

    Lindegaard - McNair - Valencia - Fletcher - Pereira - Januzaj - Wilson

    Falcao

If Jones isn't fit then replace him with McNair. If McNair starts along with the other players missing then I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose this one.

Totally forgot about Fellaini, if he's fit then he should be the direct replacement for Herrera and I think he'd do okay in the role. The diamond has to stay imo, would still be confident of beating Everton.

With Rooney and Herrera out, it might just be the right time to go 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 (especially if Jones is fit).

    De Gea
    McNair Jones Rojo
    Rafael Fletcher Blind Shaw
    Di Maria
    RVP Falcao

Best replacement for Herrera for me would be Valencia. He teams well with Rafa, good engine to track back and provide cover, quick unlike Fletch or Carrick. Same defence as last week would be best, get some consistency. Need to mark Baines well on that wing too, he can be a nuisance.

I would not be surpised if Carrick will play as a centre back sunday.
Why? Jones is back and McNair did a fine job.

Problem is Rooney and Herrera both defend while Mata and Janazaj do not. Which is why you need one of Fletcher or Carrick with one of Mata or Janujaz.

we should switch to 433/4231 and play one of falcao/ rvp

di maria and adnan on the wings... mata flech and blind in midfield. Ander out is gonna kill our diamond formation... especially with the way evertons fullbacks play

Blind and Fletcher absolutely shouldn't play in the same midfield. The one with Herrera and Di Maria flanking Daley works because as a combination they can help make up for Daley's relatively lower mobility/ dynamism levels. With Ander injured, there's a massive void of energy, creative ability and tenacity in the center of the park. Dunno if Carrick is fit but ideally we should take a measured approach with his fitness instead of throwing him straight in. A few more knocks and at his age, that could be curtains for his United career. Aside from Ander, we're also probably going to replace Rooney with Mata, so it's a double whammy in terms of work-rate vs an extremely energetic side.

We have a very similar player to Ander in the reserves. Might be a couple notches below in terms of awareness and the defter side of things, but Pereira can provide a lot of youthful energy, pressing ability and attacking impetus from the deep. Loads of people have commented on his suitability for a central midfield role and so far this season, it looks justified. Van Gaal has shown a reluctance for fitting square pegs into round holes and we have an almost like for like replacement in Andreas. Doesn't matter a lot if he's position ally wayward at times. Blind is an excellent organizer, you can see him barking instructions in game. He could lend a helping hand and keep Pereira in the right places.

If ever there was a time to give him a chance, it's now instead of chickening out in favor of experience. Also like mentioned before, Everton will be relatively tired. Let's take advantage of that and hound the ball instead of ceding control in midfield by being too cautious.

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    Blind
    Pereira - Di Maria
    Mata
    Van Persie - Falcao

Well I did not know at the time that Herrera was out, so at this point in time I do not believe Carrick will play as a centre back. But SAF in 2009 and in 2012 already played with the idea of playing Carrick as a cb when in dire need (injuries). I do recall Carrick played a few games as a cb but I do not remember this very accurately. McNair did a fine job, but all young defenders make mistakes, they are just lacking the consistency and concentration. This will come with age, but these are one of the biggest reasons that there are practically zero young (20 and younger) good cbs.

Playing McNair now, in a total rebuild is something different then implementing talents in a well oiled machine. If McNair makes a mistake, a crucial one, versus Everton he'll get crucified by the press (along with LvG). I believe Carrick can offer the consistency, experience and build up play as a centre back, and that we really need atm. We need that experience to close out games, which we find very difficult atm especially with all the experienced players we have being injured or suspended.

I think we're going to revert to 3 in the back. We would have Shaw and Rafael on the wings so it might not be as bad as previous. Still wouldn't be thrilled about it, though.

There's a reason why LVG want to play a CB at CB.Experience can't do much if you're not playing in your true position.Carrick has been terrible most of the time he played CB although it's not his fault.

McCarthy, Barry and Besic will run rings around are midfield if we go with ADM, Blind and Fletcher. I hope Coleman isn't fit aswell as i feel their fullbacks will cause us all sorts of problems with our narrow formation. I am just hoping and praying Falcao and RVP will be unbearable for the inexperienced Stones and out form Jagielka. Need them to score 2 or 3 to win this one.

Valencia was brought on for Herrera following his injury right? It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is the line-up we see.

I agree, it is best not to play players out of position. Though sometimes certain situations asks for it. You have to be pragmatic sometimes. Carrick as a cb is far from an ideal situation, though maybe the best for the moment.

Maybe he'll try something a little new, and go with Fletcher and Blind as deep lying centre mids, and play Januzaj and Di Maria as wingers.
Would cheese Mata off a treat though!

One thing that irritates me about this fixture :

In the 12 years Moyes was at Everton, Everton never won at Old Trafford
( at least in the League anyway, not sure about cups )

In the 10 months Moyes was at United, Everton won at Old Trafford
