We definitely lose width when Martial's not there. Signing someone like Douglas Costa could be big for us.

Liking Dalot in attack so far, though looks a bit suspect at defence.

Sloppy in possession, very low rhythm and not tensed enough. We need to move it faster and better.

The best thing - the high pressure getting us chances to score. But the execution has been so so poor. Some improvements needed for the second half.

    Red Card for Casemiro!
Fred blending into the team now, figuring out things he can and can't do.

Possession at 74% last game, and 74% now.
We've had 8 shots on target already, and could have had more if Rashford a little less selfless or Dalot a bit more accurate. Love the way we're approaching the game, with such positivity. We're gonna score more, no doubt.

Fred needs games. He's barely played ffs and he only just joined the club. Give him a chance.

Rashford has been superb in terms of his overall work. He needs to be coached to calm down when he's near the goal because it's affecting his ability to spot better options. If he can work on his decision making at crucial positions then there's no limit for him.
Rashford opts to shoot literally any time he gets within sight of goal, regardless of whether he has a teammate in a better position. They will get frustrated with him before long.

I would like to see young Gomes on for Fred. He has really good passing ability and hopefully he will get the chance to impress.

Not convinced by Fred. Using a bad stream here, but he's been awful. That money could've been better spend.
Disagree, think Fred has had some very incisive passes. Sure he's lost the ball a few times but he's playing riskier, more penetrative passes. Done pretty good so far, considering he's barely played.

I don't mind when we're a few goals up. It's annoying at 1-0 though. At least Kane is a good finisher. Finishing is one of Rashford's weakest attributes, he'd grow so much as a player by becoming more of a team player. He shoots from stupid angles all the time when we have better placed players. It really pisses me off tbh.
You shouldn't assume it's because of Rashford, I think Ole is telling him to let his instinct talk and his instinct was to take the shot. It will come, it comes with confidence, that comes with goals, and all of that...

Don't think Fred's been that bad, certainly not compared with some of his previous cameos. I think he has it in him to improve considerably.

Really wish Dalot could have slotted that chance home, great great work from Rashford that deserved a finish.

Very much enjoyed the half. However, for all of our pretty little one-twos, it was a dead ball situation that got us the goal. Obviously it’s always difficult playing through a packed defense, but we should try to work the ball a bit better in front of the box. Way too many time the sides are congested while there’s no one looking for a shot in the centre.

    Now on to the 2nd.

And intercepted the ball quite a few times. He has been a bit hit and miss but he might settle into the game better now

He had a good start to the game but gradually began to fade as the half drew to a close.

There is more to come from him.

Honestly I'm not even sure how much they can have possibly done in less than a week with little time to train. Beyond telling the players to push higher and play with more freedom and flair I can't imagine they've done a lot. It's mostly because we actually have good players who were completely shackled under Mourinho and are now allowed play like they really can, and have likely found a new level of confidence because they're no longer managed by that twat.
True, but there are significant changes you can definitely see. Both fullbacks playing further up the pitch, telling them to press further up the pitch, and telling them to release the ball quickly. All those things feed off each other, having more players to support the attack opens up passing lanes and when you give it away you have more players to press. Telling them to attack and look forward when you get it. None of those things need months of coaching to implement, it's just the mindset that they're going out with now and the players are thriving

Fred has had a couple of nice passes up the middle and out wide. Defensively he's given another reminder that he cant do what Ander does, not tracking players

I think Fred is just a little rough/trying too hard. He doesn't have the crispness of Herrera but seems to have a better cross in him.

I still think Matic is a bit slow. Herrera would be a more dynamic addition. Mata needs to stay central.

Fred’s movement looks good, he’s all over the pitch. His passing has been ok but seems to lack focus and does something wrong.

Overall he’s getting better, just needs a run of games.

I'd give Fred time, not all players are going to slot right in to Ole's way straight away, his confidence must be low with hardly playing under Mourinho. I think there is a proper footballer in there, just needs game time.

    Probably sums him up.
“Fred is a really good player,” says Dmitry Nedaivozov, who heads Shakhtar’s London Supporters’ club, “though I’m not sure he is good enough to be a Man United player. He’s played five years for Shakhtar, but still didn’t become their top player. He is only 25, and probably needs a bigger challenge, which will help him grow further.”

Nice to have the Matic back from Season 1. Where’s this guy been for the last year?

Fred just needs to keep things quick when deep in his own half, maybe Shaw and Dalot can try and make some penetrating runs and get behind the FBs at times, also Lingard needs to get a bit more involved. Still, miles better than under Jose. The fact that our degree looks quite comfortable now that they are not under constant pressure is a welcome change.

Fred is not a bad player like some make him out to be. He is a risk taking player, who will lose possession time and time but he will also create chances and won't shy to win the possession back. Give him some game and he will show how good he is.
Yeah. Caf are always looking for a scapegoat. He’s seen a lot of the ball. Second highest in pass accuracy and 4th on touches behind Pogba. He does take risks which is why he never played under Jose. Give him minutes and he’ll improve.

Rash getting into good positions but he needs to be a little more circumspect with his choices. You don't shoot all the time especially when there are better options. We're only leading by a goal so that second one is very important. Need to be more clinical.
Dalot made a great run and he blatantly ignored it to shoot from a bad position.

Rashford and Pogba took the shoot theory too literally.. Trying to score from the worst possible angles.

Good to see Manutd play football again. The pressing and intent is very impressive but sadly our passing and movement is still something we need to work on.

Would love to see Perreira for Mata in second half and 2nd goal so Gomes gets a run too.

    Looking over my shoulder.
Looking at our current attacking side, Shaw is the most negative player. Talk about Turn Back Tony - what about Shaw? Has he ever taken on his player? I really doubt he has the ability to dribble past a cone. He is an extra man in attack, and he is pretty good at crossing back at 45 degree angles, nor does he give the ball away, but he looks so slow and cumbersome.

Fred had a couple of shockers, but the talent is clear to see.

Fred hasn't had the time to settle into the squad. He came into a team in a crisis with The Toxic One at the helm.

Give him time to settle into the team properly and i'm sure he will show his undoubted quality.

Would be good to bring on gomes

Also pogba has been quietly great. Just simply moving the game forward for us without needing to do anything Hollywood.

Fred not good. Low confidence and bad fitness... A bit clueless in defensive duties as well. Ander Herrera should be put in the game ASAP. That mistake at the end of the first half should never happen.
Rest of the team is all right. Not very coherent but forward thinking and ambitious with out dilly dalling.

This team need Carrick type midfield badly. The amount of open space in that Huddersfield's half is staggering but no one can distribute the ball smoothly.
Also Lingard often lost ball by useless flick off and useless to pass his first man.

May be it's just me but we have hardly been impressive, intent is certainly there but quality is still lacking need to actually create some clear cut chances in second half.

Fred loses his concentration and makes silly mistakes at times but I still think people are being too hard on him; he's clearly got talent.

That's the thing though, he is not a 50M player who comes in and improves your first 11 right away. We paid a lot for potential improvement in a 25 year old. He's not a teenager to expect that kind of improvement.

I agree. Really can't see it with Shaw in comparison to other top fullbacks. Zero output offensively.
