Utterly disgraceful how we have had such a poor transfer window, selling quality players with no replacements that Leicester are probably favourites now. As we all knew injuries would happen & loss of form.

We have an average manager, average & thin squad. Why are our fan base just acceptant of this? As if thinking the kids will save us- they wont
What quality players did we get rid of?

Valencia - should have been sold 5 years ago, worst ever Utd captain.
Herrera - could have used him, but at £200k per week for a squad player is nuts. McT and Andreas are at a similar level to him.
Smalling - good player, but we had 7 CBs. The only player I don’t think should have gone - but we couldn’t get rid of Rojo or Bailly.
Darmian - played how many games last year, 4?
Lukuku - had to go, unprofessional, appalling record against any half decent side. Yes we could have done with a replacement for him, but the right player wasn’t available.
Sanchez - worst signing in Utd’s history?

    Is Fred out as well?

    DDG
    Young Lindelof Maguire Rojo
    Matic Mata McTominay
    Pereira Rashford James

have a hard time predicting subs
That's who I picked, but in this lineup:

    DDG
    Rojo - Maguire - Lindelof - Young
    McTominay
    Matic ------------- Mata
    Pereira
    Rashford - James
Subs: Greenwood, Fred, Tuanzebe (if Fred is out, Garner as sub)

Call it a 4-1-2-1-2 or a 4-4-2 diamond (it flattens out fast on either end, anyway). I think Young has done better on the left so far this year than he did on the right last year and I don't think Rojo's positioning is going to matter.

    Alternatively, you could go 3-5-2:

    DDG
    Rojo - Maguire - Lindelof
    Pereira - Matic - McTominay - Mata - Young
    Rashford - James
I don't see Greenwood starting, and with Lingard out (oh, he's a maybe? that's out in my book)... yikes. He's playing two up front, not three.

Even with just Pogba and Martial out, the squad tomorrow is going to look as mid table as you can get a United side. How the hell we have arrived in this position having pretty much outspent every side in the league for the past x amount of years is beyong me.
Regardless of the result tomorrow (although I cant see anything other that a Leicester win - a much better side with a suitably experienced manager), our place outside of the top 6 will be confirmed tomorrow. This squad is so thin on real quality, it's embarrasing.

Yes, it’s a low net spend, but our priorities should have been to fix our midfield instead of CB position. That was Vidic’s opinion, and I am in full agreement. You can’t just absolve Ole of all responsibility.
You're right, as much as I disagree with how the club is run from above I can't absolve Ole of all responsibility. That said I still feel the backing is inadequate, almost negligent considering our stature, ambition and previous season.

Surprised Axel isn't in more of the predicted lineups. He does have some experience at right back i believe. Will probably end up playing Rojo at LB and Young at RB though.

If you think we’ve had a good transfer window then I don’t know what to say. Wr deserve a mediocre season if fans are happy with that.

Herrera & Lukaku were quality we haven’t replaced

should just be greenwood top, rash left and james on right, put mata in the 10, matic and mctominay in central mid, then backline of young-mag-lind-tuanz. Hopefully gomes on bench to come in around 60 minutes for mata and provide some fresh energy and creativity.

At least this will give us a chance to see how we cope without Pogba. 1-1 looks a good bet right now.

We are absolutely going to lose this game with the injuries we have.

No doubt we look injured and buried. But I think we will get a draw.
My only hope is we get to see Gomes/Greenwood get some play time.
I imagine he will start Lingard/Mata/Perreira but hopefully the youngsters can come on and show some good moments.

He spent £150m. He could have reinforced the midfield instead of the defense. I recently read some comments by Vidic, from way back in MARCH, suggesting we had to prioritize reinforcing our midfield and that the defense was fine. He specifically mentioned that Maguire was a great player, but the club had to have priorities.
Keep in mind DDG was potentially leaving over the summer. Our GA last season even with him was 10th. There was no way not to invest in defense. Midfield looks a priority now only because our defense is better.

A good and balanced midfield will protect the central defenders.

And we could have improved our defense short term(2-3 years) by buying Meunier and Alderweireld for a combined £50m. Then used the leftover £80m to buy two decent midfielders... Then we would have been a candidate for top 4. Instead we spent £50m on a defensive spesialist at RB and £80m on a slow central defender. Neither suitable for the way most succesful teams play today.

Given the threadbare squad I'd like to see:

    DDG
    Young - Lindelof - Maguire - Williams
    ------------ Fred - McTom
    Greenwood - Gomes - James
    -------------- Rashford

Rashford made his name being thrown in unexpectedly, I think Greenwood & Gomes are more than ready to be given the same chance. If Williams is unavailable then it has to be Rojo, although I really don't want to see him in a United shirt again, blood some promising youth.

Of course Ole will go with Mata for Gomes, Pereira on the right and Matic instead of Fred, and no way does Williams get a go at LB. But hey ho a guy can dream!

Might Ole be saving the youngsters for our Astana and Rochdale matches? I can see them coming on as subs on Saturday, but not starting. Then he'll throw four or five of them on come Thursday.

    I think so too.

From what he's been saying I can't see him start any of them in the PL until they've started and done well in some cup games.

Given players out, i'd love us to go for this, i cant bare site of matic and mata in the team slowing us down. Mixture of experience and youth.

    de gea

    maguire Axel lindelof

    James mctominay Garner smashley
    Gomes

    Greenwood Rashford

However i expect more like this...

    de gea

    young maguire lindelof rojo

    mctominay matic fred

    james rashford mata

If you look at Atletico Madrid they got 6 players this summer that covered their midfield and all defensive positions all for what we paid out for just Maguire and Bissaka, we spent poorly imo, maybe our defence wouldnt be so exposed if we had a midfield that can actually control a game, I would have even had preferred we focused on the attack over the defence with how much we are struggling in front of goal not just the start of this season but also in the last few months of last season as well and especially with little depth, poor planning of a half assed rebuild.

The way the season is going, it might be best to save the first team for those games :wenger:

No martial no party. damn injuries.
It's almost like it was an almost criminal decision to leave ourselves with only Martial and Rashford as even vague senior options up front, when Martial has repeatedly shown he'll miss a string of games every so often.

at this point Im just tired. Need a break from football. Leicester shouldn't have a better first 11 than ours even with injuries. I dont feel like waiting another 2 seasons because we have already done that 3 times.
