They've got a feisty midfield, pretty shit defense and OK up front. If we go with a strong midfield, I'll be very confident.

Really wouldn't mind seeing Fellaini passed fit to play and have Carrick in midfield too. Give Mata a rest and opt for more pace either in a fit Di Maria or Januzaj.

edit: see Tiote is suspended. Quite nice that.

    Tiote's suspended though, isn't he?

Apart from that, Sissoko's been playing great as has Ayoze. Cisse is good in the right mood. Weak points are goalkeeper and if Williamson plays in defence.
Cisse won't play - he has been ill - and also has a knee-problem.

Newcastle now top physioroom's injury list. I wonder if this is the first time this season where we've played a team that have more injuries than us?

What? Someone has a worse record than us? That can't be right.

Really not sure what line up to expect tomorrow. Whether Smalling makes it or not could make a big difference, as it should allow Carrick to play the holding role. However with the Spurs game 2 days later there could easily be some surprises. Anyway my final line up pick is:
    de Gea
    Jones Rojo Blackett
    Valencia Carrick Rooney Young
    di Maria
    RVP Falcao

This is the least confident I've been in my line up prediction all season though. Don't actually expect to see di Maria in the #10 role but can't fit him in anywhere else. I'd also have Smalling in for Blackett if he's fit and Rojo out left CB.

I'm in France for this, usually I can watch the football on Canal+ Sport, but this isn't on.

Hopefully, I can watch it on a wibbly wobbly stream.

Sunday's game is going to be even more difficult.
i think that they are going to display the game, at least on liveonsat they say so.

Dont want to see 5 at the back and would like Herrera and Carrick to play in midfield so we actually have a midfield rather than just 5 defenders and 4 attackers which was pretty much how it was against Villa.

Also would be good if Smalling is back from injury, we look a lot more solid with him at the back. Anyone heard if he might be available for the game?

Smalling is a question mark apparently. I think he will be on the bench and start against Tottenham.

Didn't see the Villa match and have been in the dark with the latest news, so no idea how we will line up. Just hope Falcao plays again and can start some sort of run.

Would be nice to see Rafael return too.

Regardless of injuries, Newcastle have some pace in the side and that could really catch us out. Shame Smalling is out.
Teams with pace have caused us problems as our back line lacks pace in the middle.
Wouldn't be surprised to see us draw this - you know we will line up 352, and we don't look comfortable playing it not do we create enough using this system.

Well, I don't think pace has been as big a problem for our defence as an inability to cope with high-pressing teams. Carrick, Jones and co position themselves well enough most of the time, it's our defence's brainfades and panic-attacks when put under pressure that bothers me.

Thankfully Newcastle aren't Southampton, we'll outscore 'em and get 3 points.

Difficult prediction today. Very difficult. I think he's going to throw a bit of a curve ball and have gone for:

    De Gea
    Jones - Evans - Blackett
    Valencia - Carrick - Rooney - Young
    Mata
    Falcao - Van Persie

Although I might change it to this if there is any Fellaini news and go for:

    De Gea
    Jones - Carrick - Evans
    Valencia - Fellaini - Rooney - Young
    Mata
    Falcao - Van Persie

How can anyone be so optimistic about this game. All i see is a nervy 1-0 or 1-1. We are going in with a non-existing MF unless we go with a back four and Carrick goes to midfield.

I'm a bit concerned of Ameobi's lanky runs. He looked like a great prospect at the age of 22. Is he any good? Any Toon fans?

That's why we must play the best team against Newcastle.......win against them and a draw at Tottenham would be "okay"

No win against Newcastle......then we're under massive pressure again
Of course, I doubt there will be a 100% B team being played. Even if there were, I would totally disagree with such a move.

However, I disagree with playing the best team against Newcastle. In all likelihood, our key players will be mixed over the two matches with some being rested, others starting and depending on how the game goes, getting subbed. And that is something I agree with. No idea how to predict who those players will be though. Rooney and De Gea for a start, I guess. lol.

this is just what i'd like to see considering the fixture list over the xmas period
    ---------------------ddg---------------------------
    rafael--------smalling---------jones----------young

    -----------valencia-----carrick---------rooney---------

    ---------di maria--------------------------wilson----------
    ------------------------falcao-----------------------------

if smalling fails to be fit for the match then mcnair, to be fair to mcnair he has looked good when he's in a back 4, with the run of games in such a short time span it would be ok to drop van persie for one match, rafael may not have perfect match fitness but rojo came straight back into the first team last month after being injured and did fine, the reason i would go with 433 with di maria and wilson on the wings is because newcastle love to attack and will always give teams the opportunity to counter attack, why waste that opportunity? rooney loves performing his diagonal long balls to the right wing and if he can supply them to di maria countless times against newcastle then that would be perfect.
