Surely you start Pogba have him influence the game from the start then bring him off when flagging / has already influenced the game.
What do you do when we are losing despite having him on the pitch? If you keep him for 90 mins what then? Or god forbid he has a recurrence. No way can he take the risk of a full game for Pogba today. I doubt he starts agains Burnely either. Too many games too soon.

Pereira for Lingard isn't much of improvement. Looks like Pogba will now start v Burnley v Saturday.

James needed the rest and good to see Greenwood starting. Shaw and DeGea lucky to be starting again.
Looking at the line up today I'd say that Ole is prioritising todays game and the Arsenal game with regards to a first 11.

He must be looking to rest a few players at Burnley so expect a draw or a loss in that game.

Newcastle have named 5 defenders and two defensive midfielders, not hard to know what their tactics will be. I don't see where the creativity will come from in that Man United midfield but I live in hope that Martial, Rashford, Greenwood can create something among themselves. At least James and Pogba to bring on is a decent plan B if required.

I suppose he's easing Pogba in.
I expect exactly the same as last game, for 45mins, 0-1 at half-time and Pogba comes on to play a part, we equalize and it ends 1-1.

Good lord Pereira. From bad to worse in that position. Although I actually do prefer him over Lingard. At least he doesn't give stupid fecking interviews every other day.

He has been out for what, 3 months. Surely he can't be anything less than ready to play 2 games in a row now ? And he had just put a pretty good performance against Watford in which he looked fitter than some of our players who have been playing regularly for the previous few months.

And likewise when you're losing without him, with the team looking lethargic and off the pace. You expect him to come on and turn the other 10 players in to world-beaters?

Given the Chelsea result, I'd have liked to see Ole take a risk today regards Pogba's fitness.

Even a semi-fit Pogba offers more than Periera.
It's more about whether he can even play the minutes. No point starting him only ro lose him again because he was rushed back. Let's be honest, if he could start, he would be. We're hardly in a situation where we can rest him for the heck of it

If we don't win today it's time for him to go I'm afraid. Last chance saloon. We need to beat this Newcastle side but I have a feeling we are going to make very hard work of it.

Mata should really be starting these kind of home games. It’s no good playing him at Burnley next
I know we have feck all options but Mata really?

Like I like the dude and all but everyone I watch him I honestly think he might be one of the worst players in the league. His body just doesn't function anymore.

Been so long since he done anything in a prem game for us.

How is Shaw starting again after a few awful performances? Shaw or Pereira shouldn't be anywhere near a Manchester United starting 11.

Standard line up in a game where we could afford /need to be a bit more bold /adventurous.

If we don't score in the first half hour v will probably be another frustrating day.
Even if we manage score by then, I doubt we can go without conceding for the next 60 mins.

    Agreed with your point.

However the issue here is his concentration imo. His concentration seems to have been dropped recently, otherwise I can't think of any explanation why he could make such basic mistakes. If a GK or a defender lose his concentration, it's very dangerous.

I know we all love him but if I was Ole I'd bench him this match. No one can complain as it's a professional thing to do and I only act in the best interest for the club. Players must be picked on current form not on status nor past form. Especially if there's able replacement. If you read my posts I've defended Rashford when there were calls to drop him but it was mostly because we had no other choice at that moment.
    You should be manager

Chelsea lost so I fully expect us to bottle it.

Imagine going into 2020 3 points behind Newcastle and not sacking your manager ffs

Pogba is not ready for 90 minutes so that was expected. Greenwood for James is fantastic. Good lineup

Choosing between Lingard, Mata and Pereira is simply choosing which type of animal faeces you want in a sandwich. It's pick your poison.

Gun to head, for me, Pereira every time. I dont rate him at all but he can actually run/press (which puts him over Mata) and has a tidy set piece on him (which puts him over Lingard).

Mata's supposed footballing savvy is completely nullified by his inability to run or hold his own whatsoever physically. Lingard is just a non-entity.

Will take 2 years to fully assess Pereira and Lingard.

Pleased for Greenwood to get a start, expect him to cut through the crap around him with a smart finish.

Ya a semi fit Pogba plays and ends up injured again and disappears for another few weeks. No thanks

Aye, that's probably true. He's bound to make an appearance at some point.

But Pereira does give away stupid fecking fouls every game.

I’m pretty sure Pogba will feature at some point today.. we have another game in 2 days (Burnley away Saturday) so rotation has to be expected - even though it is disappointing to see Pierra in and Pogba not starting. Sensible use of Pogba in a crowded fixture period does make sense.

We are now in 9th, Newcastle 10th, so this game is an important mid-table 6 pointer!!

But we could go up to 7th (depending on Wolves result), or of course down to 10th.

Not impressed by the line-up, just blind hope that Ole might try something new instead of Pereira, Lingard or Mata as a #10.

Going to be hard work this game--watching it that is.

Ole - “ With Paul, it's too early to demand too much of him. He has worked really hard but we will have to drip-feed him in and gradually play him more and more."

Makes sense. 2 games in 4 days coming up

Even if we win, Ole out. I think will be a draw though with the longstaff brothers running the show looking lole xavi and iniesta. How does Jones make the bench and not Tuanzabe? Where is Williams? In fact, except Greenwood where os this youth that is ready??

Seems like We're gonna be reliant on Andreas to create chances

    We'll smash them 1-0
