I agree with a lot here, we need to throw in players like Lindelof, Malacia, Sabitzer, Garnacho, probably also Sancho, AWB. Although I do not think that those would have made a massive difference yesterday.
Personally I would keep Rashford and one of Martinez/Varane as Maguire cannot be the answer.

We need to rest players not punish them. Casemiro and Varane in particular. Maybe Martinez

I'd play Maguire to be honest, message from ETH should always be if you fall from the standards we set you risk your place. Play an entirely new XI.

    ------------------------ Butland ------------------------
AWB------- Maguire --- Lindelof -- Malacia
    ---------- Sabitzer - Mainoo -McT --------------
    Elanga ------------------------------------ Garnacho
    -------------------------Sancho--------------------------

I realise we don't have any other strikers so Sancho has to be a false 9, we'd likely lose but it serves 2 purposes 1) he's dropping the players who performed poorly and 2) we can then just revert back to the strongest team for the PL game.

Every single manager we get plays the strongest team in every competition, been happening for many years now and it pisses me off.

Hoping for a 4-0 smacking to take our frustration out on the green weirdos...

... But this is a concern for me too. Over recent years (admittedly not this season yet) we haven't reacted well to humblings and seem to start playing like a bag of nerves.

certainly need a reaction but i fear the tank is running on empty on a lot of the starting players, hectic fixture schedule has taken it's toll and how damaging is that defeat yesterday to the mindsets will be seen on Thursday night.

Losing 4-0 would definitely be an improvement on losing 7-0 but I'd be hopeful we can go to 2-0 at least.

Whisper it quietly but getting knocked out on away goals or penalties would be a blessing in disguise. Our squad is nowhere near ready to be playing all these games.
Would rather lose out on the FA Cup… this is atleast European competition and better practice for the champions league. Also a win guarantees us champions league

I sense this will be different. EtH has spoken about the mentality and comradery of this team for months. Yesterday was a freak result. Wrong tactics, a few players injured, not up to complete fitness, and overall squad being tired from playing so many games. It's shame EtH did not make a change at HT, The outcome would have most likely been different. I doubt Betis are relishing the thought of playing us right now. We've been on great form which I expect will continue Thursday. I also expect Liverpool will go back to their mediocre selves.

A reaction from this team? This isn't a fergie team. In the last 8 years whenever we suffered a huge loss we then needed a couple of games to snap out of it. So this will probably be another feck up

We have put ourselves in this position by having a good season. Throwing away this tie now makes all the other EL matches before it become redundant. This is a must win game. If our team can't handle 2 games a week than we don't have any right to be called a top club.

Besides all that it is still European football, we are underachievers in Europe, I want utd to win more. Each year we got far in the EL but we rarely take the cup home, this needs to change.

Gonna need the crowd on Thursday, put these lot away quick and give us a full week rest
I’ll be there Thursday and as much as they’ve all pissed me off yesterday I’ll be right behind them. Pretty sure Old Trafford will respond well.

In all honesty, we should be beating Betis. They're a very ordinary team that I'd rate behind the likes of Fulham and Brighton, nevermind the big 6 clubs in England. A 2-0 win to take into the second leg should not be beyond us. Main worry will be the combination of fatigue and low morale from today's game. But in terms of ability, we're a way ahead of them and should be able to show it.
Our record against Spanish teams is terrible so this will be a slog.

Hoping to see Awb, Sabitzer and Sancho get chances. Maybe Garnacho too.

This season after our previous 3 defeats we then went on great runs of around 10 game in all competitions winning 80% of them, after each defeat. After the Brentford defeat we also went on a very good run.

Lets see what they are made of...the first bad performance in months shouldn't destroy all the good work they have done. Leave the media/pundit to go hysterical.

Focus on the game on Thursday.

    2-0 United

    We’re gonna make Betis,
    look limp like lettuce!
We’ll take out that frustration and inflict a castration. Send those Spanish boys back to the station
Ten Hags boys will fight, and take flight, oh what a sight!
make you feel alright on Thursday night
Cos Erik’s all over this Europa shite.

    I have a headache, and I’m bored.
    Sorry about that! :nervous:

Same team, or very close to what we saw against Liverpool.

They'll be desperate to put things right following the result yesterday.

    Weghorst
    Rashford Bruno Antony
    Fred Casemiro
    Malacia Martinez Varane Wan-Bissaka
    De Gea

Remember when we'd get a humiliating result under SAF, then would come out fired up in the next match and win 5-0 while playing scintillating football?

Yeah, that's probably not gonna happen.
Did you imagine that up because I don't remember many instances like that? SAF's worst defeat at Old Trafford to Liverpool was 1-4 and we followed that with a 2-0 loss to Fulham. After the 1-6 to City, it was a string of 1-0s wins after. In 96 we followed a 5-0 thrashing by Newcastle with a 6-3 loss (the grey kit saga) to Southampton. The positive I can say of SAF's terrible defeats is that it's easy to remember them cause there's only that few of it.

Can’t decide whether boos of derision will be cascading down from the stands when the players emerge for this game, or whether the mood will be to get behind the team more so than ever.

    I also can’t decide which I’d prefer.
    There’s no change of booing

Think Bruno has to be dropped. ETH is mad on values and behaviour so I’d be surprised if he starts Bruno…

Wow didn’t know they were doing so well
Betis has injured its 2 best players : Fekir broke his knee a few days ago and will be out for 7 months ; Canales has a muscle injury, and he no longer played against Madrid, we will see if he arrives in time for the game.

I doubt they’ll be booing. We’ve lost 1 game in like 12 games. The fans are massively behind ETH. This is just a little blip. We’ll get back to winning ways.

Is that the Fekir we were linked with a few years back?

5th in La Liga and just drew 0-0 with Real Madrid at home. Not going to be an easy game i think.
Real madrid has been poor at times this season in La Liga. It was still a good result for Betis but Real actually lost to Villareal, Rayo Vallecano and Mallorca away already. Betis was much better earlier in the season but since the world Cup they have been a bit of a hit and a miss.

How is Real Betis faring this year in LA Liga?
5th in La Liga just 3 points off 4th

They have the 5th best away record in La Liga with P12 W6 D2 L4

They topped their Europa league group with 16 points ahead of Mourinho Roma. Drew with them 1-1 at home and beat them 2-1 away.

Of course there won’t be any booing, there wasn’t any booing consistently in the last 10 years either when things were far worse for us.

I don’t know if that is a good or a bad thing. What I do know is that I never hear Old Trafford as loud as Anfield was throughout the match.
