    Magical Manchester United.
How did they play against Arsenal, has anyone seen the game? I know they beat Arsenal 2-0 and Szczesny gifted them the goals but a brief sum up would be nice.
Pretty even game with slightly better chances for Le Arse, but Saints were quite clinical and Szczesny and Arsenal's defence comical. Saints obviously missed Schneiderlin in that game though. Every time Arsenal moved the ball fast Saints had problems though, especially the pace of Sanchez was quite handy for the Gunners. They missed a couple of sitters, so if we move the ball clever and quickly we should be able to cut through them.

Aside from RVP generally being a class act, Januzaj's through ball at about 0.52 was a welcome reminder of what he's capable off. You don't see much of us being that direct under LVG though.

    Wingback-less wonders!
Yep! Only we could be unlucky enough to lose all four to injury at once...

On another note, I'm surprised people are leaving RvP out of their line-ups. While I would love to see Rooney and Falcao given a try up top, RvP was rested along with Jones and Carrick. All three are starting on Sunday, guaranteed (barring any injuries in training, which are of course very possible).

Judging by LvG's method of not playing players who aren't 'match fit' I would expect Di Maria to be the one left out that most people want to see starting, although I'd love him to start as well.

Bonus is that we're likely to see a 442 diamond even if it means Rooney in midfield for at least the first half, with Rafael, Shaw, and McNair all likely left out of the side. Carrick to operate as a third CB at times, with Blind coming on in the second half as well if he's available.

    Looking forward to this..

Again Southampton are very impressive and well done to them.
For those interested here is a nice docu on Southampton.

    http://sportsworld.nbcsports.com/pl-download-the-southampton-way/
Excellent documentary! Its given me a deeper understanding of how they operate. To always have a squad consisting of 50 percent home grown talent is admirable. Along with being shrewd in the transfer market and hiring a manager who believes in youth development gives them a real chance to consistently be in the top half of the league, possibly even challenging for european football. Scouting in place and top facilities as well. They had the least soft tissue injuries aswell as their players covering the most distance in the league last season.

Much respect to them but i hope they have a poor performance on Sunday ; )

My line up for this game. Even if we can suffer on the wings against them and a 4-1-4-1 can be more suited here, he would go with the big guns from the start

    -----------------------------------------------De Gea----------------------------------------------------

    Valencia----------------------Smalling-----------------Evans---------------------------------Shaw

    -----------------------------------------------Carrick-----------------------------------------------------

    -------------------------------Herrera---------------------Di Maria------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------Mata-------------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------RVP------------Rooney--------------------------------------------

    Or

    -----------------------------------------------De Gea----------------------------------------------------

    Jones-------------------------Smalling------------------Evans---------------------------------Shaw

    -----------------------------------------------Carrick-----------------------------------------------------

    Valencia-------------------------Rooney----------------Mata------------------------------Di Maria

    ------------------------------------------------Van Persie--------------------------------------------------

    What we’ll see

    -----------------------------------------------De Gea----------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------Jones-----------------Smalling-----------------Evans---------------------------

Based on physioroom website, All four of Shaw, Young, Valencia and Rafael are injured. What kind of voodoo is this?
Note that physioroom has no more information than the rest of us. If the last thing Van Gaal said about a player is that he doesn't know if they'll be fit for the next game, physioroom will put that player down as not fit until after the next game. That's how the site works.

Looks to me like Rafa will be fine to play with a mask. Not sure what we'll do on the left side though.

Both Rafael and Shaw will be fine to start so hope they do. For me I'd love to play our strongest team in their strongest positions and see just how good we can be.

SUBS: Valdes, Rojo, Valencia, Januzaj, Blind, Fellaini, Falcao.

Show me a stronger matchday squad in European football! All those coming back from injury on the bench with the chance of some minutes, with a starting XI who have all been fit for a while and the rested Jones, Carrick and van Persie to come back in after last week. Do it, Louis.

Do people seriously think we are going to suddenly go back to 4 at the back? Seems highly unlikely to me.
Now all our defenders are fit LVG will be able to play his preferred system. And contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, I am of the opinion that is not 3-5-2. That has been added to the club's repertoire so to speak so we can be more flexible and ready to adapt to opponents and in-match situations. With a fully fit squad, we have a plethora of attacking talent and surely we need to have as many of our forwards on the pitch as possible in an appropriate formation. 3-5-2 always means we have to sit somebody extra out.

Itll be interesting to see if youre right. I am in two minds about it, the bottom line is I just dont know Van Gaal well enough to say what he thinks. But if I had to put money on it Id put it on us continuing with 3 at the back for the time being.

No Valdes in the lineups game @Niall? Don't think he'll start but he could play a part if, God forbid, Dave gets injured.

In theory we'd prove too much for most squads in Europe especially at home but unfortunately the likes of Rafael, Shaw, Blind, Rojo, Fellaini and Di Maria may not all be 90 minutes match fit. Yes, LVG is a bit of a lunatic when it comes to fitness levels.

It's crazy how matchfit someone has to be in his eyes. And it's not like it's backed up with good injury records. Di Maria still had his pelvis disconnected from his leg and young still got a muscle disease
