Hope Mata players and not Rooney in the hole.
Good luck with that, hope does spring eternal they say.
Rooneys played 18 months with his back to goal, dropping picking up possession, spread it wide ! He needs to be deeper in order face the play, it's his best asset going forward.

Bitten by an adder as a baby, the adder died.
    ..........................DDG..........................

    Rafael...........Thorpe...Rojo.............Shaw

    .........................Blind.........................

    ...............Hererra........Di Maria.............

    .........................Mata.......................

    ..............Rooney.........Falcao.............

An exciting team, switch Thorpe for Otamendi and that's the final piece of the jigsaw.

The worst thing about all these injuries are, we all know for definite, at no point in the season will Evans,Jones and Smalling be fit, all at the same time !

I think LVG should prepare himself and the coaching staff to take on Thorpe, McNair and give them the full works in order to play regularly, Rojo also needs work. I'd be very concerned if the two young lads are considered "reserves" especially when the "regulars" are not regularly available.

Along with Blackett, I expect another youth graduate to achieve 20+ appearances this season due to the delusions United have had about Evans,Smalling and Jones. Tbh, I can't distinguish those three to the likes of McNair,Keane and Blackett, all 6 as unproven as each other at this stage.

As you can tell, I'm not happy :(

It's annoying me how all the pundits are out there following Leicester saying if West Ham bring the game to us they will get a result. None of them mention the fact if Clattenburg had been in the least bit competent the game was over at 3-1, and until he decided to be their 12th man we were playing some excellent stuff and looked like scoring more.

Unless they all know something about today's referee that we don't, we should be fine. A Sam Allardyce team is not going to press us hard, and the players don't have the novelty of newly promoted team playing against Manchester United in the Premier League to drive them on.

Which brings is to a pertinent question: who has been assigned to referee this match?

That can still happen isn't it? Mata has essentially been playing as a false 9, by getting into the opposition's box as much as possible. So, Rooney can drop deeper when needed to be & Mata can switch with him.

There should not be any doubt that Mata is a better playmaker than Rooney, it's the defensive protection Rooney offers more than him is what's causing the debate. If Mata & Rooney can master that "Switch with each when needed" role, it would be difficult for the opposition to deal with them, because they would have Falcao & Di Maria to worry about too

They would be right in saying so.

I figured Blind would play as a CB with Fletcher at DM, but that seems unlikely now according to LVG's reported comments.

West Ham have been playing a diamond with Downing as the 10/false 9 and Valencia and Sakho as sort of wide strikers. That could cause us real trouble since the CB's will sort of have nobody to mark and/or need to get wide a lot. Might suit Rojo fine on the left, but Thorpe/Mcnair/Fletcher on the right will be asked to do a lot positionally. This might be a terrible match-up for us in that sense.

Blind should be able to stick to Downing okay and apart from Winston Reid West Ham have some bad defenders, so we should create chances, but Valencia and Sakho peeling wide might hurt us on the counter.

Hopefully, we can get a few goals up with some good attacking play and West Ham fold.

So you are comparing reserve players to full internationals?

So is it going to be McNair or Thorpe who is going to get chance today? Any indications?

I'm sorry to say as soon as van Gaal told Thorpe he was going to start he had to pull out of training with a stiff penis.

Be the kind of thing you would want from a CB wouldn't it? Something to get into the back of a striker to let him know you're there.

So,we are expecting another 2 debuts on sunday and that too in defense. Both 19 years old,if Mcnair plays. That means we will have the youngest backfour in PL.
    From Vida-Rio-Evra to Mcnair/Thorpe-Rojo-Shaw in less than 6 months.Wow!!!
    Feeling anxious as always.

Looking forward to today missed the QPR game due to being on holiday so yet to see us get a win!

    I've gone for,
    DDG
    Rafael McNair Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Blind Di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney RVP

Would prefer Falcao to start instead of RVP but can't see LvG dropping him, Mata has to start!
Tight game I'm going for a 2.1 win to us!!
Off to catch the train early beers today..... ;)

The good news is if we are going to play a youngster at CB Blind will still be DM and that means no Fletcher stinking out the midfield!

£150m and we might have a centre back partnership of McNair and Thorpe, you couldn't make it up!

Really looking forward to the game as I have no idea what could happen, it could be 0-0 or 10-10 the way we play now. I've been a fan for the last 30 years and was only interested in winning, however we did it, now I'm just going to enjoy the ride of watching exciting football. I.imagine there'll be plenty of highs and lows along the way as Liverpool fans found out last year with their insane 160 goals in 38 matches last season.

Wish I could go and hit the pub, but life isn't that easy. I didn't mean that I don't have the channels, I meant that the game's not listed in either.
Where are you watching it? The American channels always seem to broadcast our games. There will be plenty of online streams as per.

Yea I can watch it online, but could have had much better quality with Sky or BT. It's strange that neither are showing our match. When was the last time that happened??

@Niall is the deadline for lineup submission moved to 6 hours prior to game? Didn't get any notice as such about it :( Guess same is case with few others. Possible to move it to 2 hours for today and then through a common message declare it being changed to 6 hours from next weekend?
