"Louis van Gaal faces the media today ahead of Preston vs #mufc on Monday. We'll have updates from the boss from around 15:30 GMT."

    De Gea
    Rafael*....Smalling....Rojo....Shaw
    Herrera.......Blind
    Young*..........Rooney.......Di Maria
    Falcao

    * or Valencia for Either Rafael or Young

I think I'd like to see something along the lines of (4-2-3-1):

    Valdes
    Rafa--Smalling--Rojo--Shaw
    Herrera--Blind
    Di Maria---Mata---Januzaj
    Rooney

That team would play some lovely stuff, I'm sure of it. Unfortunately, I very much doubt the line up will be anything of the sort :(

I forgot Kevin Davies played for Preston.

fecking hate that cnut. Absolute certainty he'll be booked on Monday, probably try and maim Luke Shaw or Januzaj.

That would be a team line up I would like to see. Since we lost Carrick to injury and dropped Mata we have looked so much less likely to score a goal. And our movement up top has been shocking maybe that's the strikers maybe it's the service they have been receiving, hopefully we can try something new like this and see if it works out.

This is one time Van Gaal should definitely reply in a presser and put some pressure on the ref to keep an eye on Davies.

"What would Davies know about Football? His sole job is to barge around the field fouling the opposition with the intention of injuring their best players"

Interesting comment. There's been only one United recently. A pretty drab side with just about enough to beat poor teams, not enough to beat good ones.

We'll scrape through with another lucky victory which could have easily gone either way. I've voted United to win 1-0, but wouldn't even be surprised if we couldn't manage that. Don't mean to sound like I'm moaning, but I really have no confidence left, like half of our players.

That is a winning formation and it will get the best out of the players as they are actually playing in their preferred positions :)
I'd replace Young with Januzaj tho.

An away win for United this Monday, after two poor games (I watched back the games and we were good in the last 30 minutes at West Ham and the team was “ok” for the second half against Burnley except this defensive fail between Herrera and Smalling)

After that a game at Old Trafford for quarter final against West Ham… It’s already written in the stars between the great big Sam and PHILOSOPHY!

Hopefully Liverpool will slip at Crystal Palace tomorrow (love the destiny), and we’ll just have to face the likes of Arsenal or Stoke in semis or final

I'm not sure why people are putting Valdes at the back.
We cant win away games, so we need to play our absolute strongest team. This means that De Gea must play.
Why on Earth would you put the best goalkeeper in the World on the bench, when this is a must win (knockout) game, away from home?

I would not be wanting to have Valdes against a Kevin Davies.

I have a feeling Rooney will appear to start as a striker alongside Falcao, but in reality it will be Fellaini up top with Falcao, with Rooney joining the likes of Mata, Di Maria and Blind in a midfield diamond.

I think they do it forgetting this isn't a Fergie United team, and that we don't have 60games this season

Monday?? FFS - this ruins the entire weekend!!
The only advantage of the Monday 7pm cup draws, was that I thought all games would at least have been played, at least the original tie (pending replay).

To have a game purposely kicking off afterwards is rubbish

Why no thread for the press conference?

    On injuries:
I think [Phil] Jones shall be difficult to play on Monday. [Daley] Blind, I don't know, we have to wait and see how he recovers. Robin van Persie also has something, so now I have given the players a day off. Only the injured players have visited our centre, but the doctor has not called me yet so I cannot say anything.

I've only watched knob-end (as the locals call them) once this season, but I can say some posters here are worrying too much about Kevin Davies knocking us about. It's Joe Garner they should be worried about.

I am actually fine with RVP and Falcao getting continuous chances even though their form is poor. Dropping them only hurts confidence and game form, and lets be honest James Wilson isn't the answer (not yet anyways).

I just learned the same thing elsewhere. The fukking cnut needs to be stretchered off. I say give the job to Fellaini and have him do Davies in. I don't mind if Davies is able to walk again after the match, but I don't want to see him able to walk off the pitch on Monday.

Can we see Rooney up front if we're 3-0 up with 15-20 minutes to go, Mr Van Gaal? Pretty please. Really missed seeing him there.
