He hasn't trained or played in months. He's going to be nowhere match fit if he does sign for us. Going to take him a few months to get back sharp. Why it's stupid we waited until the last 48 hours if he was the plan. Ugh! just badly ran club.

Great opportunity to be a hero from the start and pressure Tony for when he can return. Ideally anyway..
Shades of a goalless Forlan having to step in for RvN.

Except Ruud was twice the player Martial is and Cavani won't be half as fit as Forlan was. Well, there you go... all in all it's about the same, just adjusted to our current level.

Unnecessary signing that has likely made Martial more unhappy/unsettled and contributed to his stupid petulance on the pitch today.

That would be on Martial. 100% and a massive question mark on HIS character, no two ways about it.
I agree. But did we need another CF signing? Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Ighalo can all play CF.

We have strengthened positions we are already strong in and neglected the glaring weaknesses like LB, CB and RW.

You don’t think it’s Martial’s fault then? If our main striker has this sort of character, then he should leave.

See above.

Ok if that’s your general point, then it’s fine. But we do need another CF as backup. Rashford is an LW, we need Greenwood at RW, Ighalo is shit and Martial is clearly a twat.

Because he's been available all summer long, the club preferred to focus on harder targets
That focus was wasted. These signings appear to be all panic buys from the fear of a backlash from supporters etc.

Imagine coming off the back of playing with the likes of Neymar and Kimpembe to...this.

I'm looking at whoscored stats for Cavani and can see 604 minutes.
Whoscored.com says 602 minutes in the league last season. 4 goals and 1 assist = 5 direct goal involvements.

602 / 5 = 120.4 minute for each direct goal involvement on average.

I hope he brings desire, will to win and the set of stones that this group is sadly lacking in

To be fair you put a comma in your original response so it looked like a different number.
But even so, what's the issue with the figures your showing there?
I'd say that's pretty decent figures given his little game time.

Cavani isn't the worst signing we've ever made, that's for sure. If you're going to make a risk-free punt on anyone, it may as well be on a world-class international who has produced the goods at every level of the game. Our young forward-line could do a lot worse than play and train with the likes of Cavani too.

If he fails: he cost nothing anyway.

If he succeeds: it will be seen as a masterstroke.

There is no lose here.
He cost nothing? Do you only look at transfer fees? His wages are reported to be 200k per week which is around 10m a year for 2 years and his agent fees are another 10m. That’s around 30m.

Peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Hope he's fit enough to start right away considering Martial is out!
I doubt he will be.
He has not played for several months, as he was completely dropped by PSG (he wasn't good enough).
Once again, our fans are expecting a lot from a player who is well past his best.

Right... He's never going to be the player people replaying the Cavani in their heads think he will be.

Funnily enough that’s what people said about Zlatan too. Coming from the same club and almost identical situations! Amazing how short our memories are.

I’m happy to have someone who can realistically push our front three for a spot in the team and someone who is proven to score goals by the truckload.

Are they? Zlatan joined us on the back of a season where he netted 50 goals IIRC. Cavani has been out of favour and hasn’t played a game in 6/7 months. Not exactly the same situation.
