I'd add the game against the Dippers. We all of course want to win that game. But I think Ole will want to have him in the starting 11 on Sunday as well.
Ole picked his team for Liverpool and Cavani was on the bench

I think he'll start the Leicester game and be on the bench for the two either side of it

Not since RVP. Give the man whatever he wants, build the exact replica of the city of Montevideo somewhere in England if needed, whatever... Just, please Edi, stay

If he does go, is there anyone else who has that movement/instinct for where the goal is? I don't watch enough football anymore.

Only person I can think of is Lewandowski.

He's currently mid row with Bayern over wages or something and apparently fancies EPL now so I wonder if we can snap him up too but one can only dream.

Other alternative is for us to get into bed with fat man for Haaland but I don't actually think he's got that Cavani movement, that's artistry. He Seems more like a lukaku type bully train when I see him play with better first touch and dribbling.

what a shame if he leaves and never gets to hear old trafford chanting his name...

if he stays next season, he will be a fan favourite for sure. Cant wait to chant his name non stop for 90 minutes! Legend

Reading that on him at Napoli I remembered this (check the clock). I was in Naples a week earlier and everyone treated me like royalty purely for being Uruguayan

Always baffled me we didn't go for him. I blame Suarez, just because.

What happened? The commentator didn’t make it clear, did he score a goal?

I almost can't bear to see Martial back in the starting line-up but I know Edi can't play every game.
That's why we need a new striker, Martial is just not top level, and never will be good enough for us if we have ambitions above what we have been achieving.

Cavani is genuine world class, and best striker we have by a country mile.

Good thread, his record at Napoli is phenomenal, particularly when you take into account the big teams: hat-tricks against all of the top sides
Im glad you remember...
Prime Cavani was a box to box CF able to play every game for team and country without ever being injured or substituted. He exherted dominance on the pitch with his determination, athleticism , defensive and offensive skill. His Europa League playoff exhibitions for Napoli at the time he was tearing top serie A teams where nothing but scintillating. He would MoM every other home and away game with most tackles, deffensive clearences, headers, shots, goals, his heat maps where allways insane. Napoli played 5 at the back + Cavani, who would tackle on the side of his own box, and run up the pitch to volley or head in the fulminating counter he started.
Crazy thing is he still can and wants to play like this, all balls in, question is how much do Man Utd want it?

Obviously different in some ways to Batistuta, but having grown up watching Serie A in the 90s, have to say it’s fecking great having a long-haired South American centre-forward going crazy scoring great goals for us. Throwback to a simpler time.

Is he staying or what
I'd say 99% he is.

100% that he isn't going to Boca.

Some Brazilian sides have shown an interest but then, if you scratch the surface, the whole "close to home" thing actually goes out of the window.

Make that 99.9%

Lo gracioso es que todos los compatriotas que se subieron al foro son de Peñarol.

No te preocupes, lo de Godín, Suárez, Cavani al bolso hasta después de Qatar seguro no sale

It's only been the last 6 or so games players have been finding his runs, he's cast a frustrated figure all season but now we are seeing the best of a true world class striker.

100% another twelve months. We were happy with Ibra in his prime, Juve are happy with Ronaldo.

Your career doesn't end at 34 unless you want it to, Cavani knows how to manage his games. I think he's amazing, I just wish we'd had him here when he was 25.

Best off the ball runs in football, hands down. Half the time, the defenders have no idea where he is.

It's crazy how many big chances he gets. He could have scored 3 in each leg against Roma.

There were several matches during the season where the rest of the team seemed confused that Cavani didn't play like Martial; perhaps they've noticed by now.

If he stays next season, I think we will see a better understanding, more through-balls and crosses that match Cavani's runs.

They don’t make them like that anymore.
A throwback striker in the best possible sense, you're right they really don't make them like that anymore. The Batistuta comparisons are apt.

Just love watching him play. Shame that he is probably going to leave.

I tried replying to you in Spanish but my post got rejected haha. I knew you were Uruguayan but didn't know you were Manya too! that's awesome we really are all over the world.

Yeah I feel you, that's the reality of Uruguayan football as soon as any player shows any promise they are sold and teams can't really keep a hold of any talent, on top of that there's not much money for good coaches. Peñarol has managed to build a nice young and exciting team this season though, worth watching. Hopefully they can keep them together for a little bit.

I am loving watching that trio of Alvarez, Torres and Terans. I hope they can win Sudamericana.

Yeah same here, they play so well together and Gargano is having some kind renaissance. Schiappacase will add a lot too I think once he gets fit. But Torres is definitely the one to watch, such a head ache for defenders. Hope so but it will be extremely tough, I’ll be happy with a good deep run we haven’t done crap internationally in so long.
