He has been a great player for us for years, saving us countless times .The amount of vitriol and hate shown towards him for the last couple of years was embarassing. Well done Dave.
I was truly disgusted seeing how some fans treated him and I can’t escape the feeling that if he was English he would never be getting the stick he got after years of being our star player, man of the year for countless seasons and the only world class player in that squad. DDG is a club legend, he’s shown great loyalty and passion, never said a bad word even when we fecked up big time with the fax machine and denied him a chance to actually win some trophies in Real when we were in such a bad state. Long may he live, I am chuffed for Dave and Jesse today and really really glad this game ended the way it ended. Don’t disrespect our legend anymore.

And I think the question about who's our number 1 has now been put to rest

Dave has made some massive saves in recent games. Southampton, Wolves and now at West Ham.

Don't wanna jinx it but I'd say he's back.

I honestly didn't feel that he would hit these heights again after the loss of form he endured for so long. Great to see him back and performing this well and to cap it off, a good penalty save to secure the three points.

Definitely a Man Utd Legend!

This is his 11th year with us and he is only 30. The next five years could be his best years yet. Goalkeepers often mature late. Don't forget that we got Van Der Sar only when he was already 35. De Gea seems to take good care of himself, I can see him playing for 10 more years. Var der Sar and Dino Zoff played till they were 41, so why not?

So happy for him, that save definitely exercised some demons for him. Great start to the season.

What a start to the season. The last two crap seasons he's had - he never looked this good. Ronaldo has brought back belief in all players and it seems like everyone is hoping to win something this season

He has really started the season with a bang. Fair play, I didn't think he had it in him, delighted to be proved wrong.

I think it was greatly exaggerated. He had poor games but we didn't lose because of him ( apart from few games here and there). We had a poor team. Henderson was the flavour of the month at that time. So every mistake was scrutinized.

When Henderson has his run of games he made few mistakes himself. Then people realised GK make them from time to time. It's just De Gea was just insane during our worst period and single handedly kept us in top 6-7 in some season. No one can sustain that level of performance

Club legend, enough said. Has been here more than a decade and saved our arses so many times during difficult years. Since that Madrid move fell through, he has never looked back and focused on his career at United. Dip in form for a few seasons and has used his mental strength to come back (which we know is one of his qualities as he relied on it successfully to settle in when he first arrived to a baptism of fire in the Premier League). Looking back to his best of late.

Total loyalty now and genuinely seems happy to be here. Wishing him all the best this season. That save today would have done wonders for his confidence and just watch him soar from here. I suspect he will now start having a run of games where he makes insane saves.

It’s the premier league. Anyone could conceivably spend a lot of money.
I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Personally, I think we're more likely to have a Jones/Rojo/Darmian/Romero/Lingard situation than receive 40m for Henderson. He'll be eating big wages whilst playing very little football.

Sorry but that’s complete nonsense, no one has mentioned his nationality.

people went off him because he doesn’t come off his line to claim balls (looks worse when you only have 1 cb who heads) distribution hasn’t been good and he’s made errors.

plus his partner has given birth in his homeland so there was a question of where his heads at

but fair play he’s started this season on fire

Taking the De God nickname to extremes now...saving penalties by day, making sure Satan’s minions are suffering by night.

Really happy for him. It was an easy penalty to save, especially if the GK dived in the right direction but it stil needed saving. It was at a nice height and the pace wasn’t great on it. Moyes really had a mare trying to shoehorn Noble in for the spot kick which isn’t as easy as it looks even though it is a dead ball situation.

What I really liked about it is that every team member went and congratulated him immediately. They basically mauled him even though he is the highest paid player in the team while not contributing much in the last two seasons. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very positive and it brings out the best in people really. I am sure DDG enjoys playing with the likes of Bruno and Ronaldo.

He’s been good this season. Ole will need to make a choice this season between him and Henderson.

And let's be honest, it's not really a choice anymore. DDG is number 1, he has been excellent so far and is looking like getting back to his best. Changes in his game such as his footwork, claiming crosses and coming off his line have been worked on and he is looking strong and confident again. Buzzing to see DDG back in this form.

He's in great shot stopping form, but his stats on crossing and coming off his line haven't actually improved. Yet. Given that he's been below par for three seasons, I'd still want to see a couple of dozen games of good form before I consider this a real turning point. But without doubt, Henderson has no claim on the first-team spot right now.

His nationality has nothing to do with it. Look at the crap Lingard gets. Dave was shit for a long time and was our highest earner pre Ronnie.

What do you mean with "fans treated him", wanting him sold or thinking he was quite shit? Regardless I think most people still appreciated he was our best player and saved our asses for a few seasons.

Anyway, credit to him for turning it around and to Ole for sticking with him. If DDG keeps it up he will displace Unai Simon for the world cup.

He came very far off his line once. Against Leeds maybe? It was incredible. You're sort of right, but then again if he keeps being bad at commanding his box and goes back to 2015 shot stopping form I'd take it. He would be in contention for best GK of the league, he was just that good.

Been critical of him in recent years but hoping we'll look back at this game as a return to his best. I've been really impressed with how he's started this season and to me it seems mostly a case of mentality. When he's short of confidence he's far too passive, makes some awful mistakes and doesn't pull the amazing reactions saves he's capable of out of the bag to make up for it. When he's playing with confidence his shot-stopping ability is second to none, he's more proactive and commands his area far better.

Even before the penalty he seemed more confident than I've seen him in ages, the reaction to the save and the way he spoke in the post-match interview makes me feel like he can carry on that momentum. I wasn't sure if he had it in him to push on after Henderson got so many minutes last season, but it looks like he's stepping up and reacting well to the challenge.

It's not a hard one for me tbh, Henderson was painfully average when he got the extended chance last year. Age is the only thing he has on De Gea.

Indeed.

How many appearances does he need to take Alex Stepney’s record?

Perhaps it’s nonsense but to me De Gea always seemed like a model professional, never said a bad word about the club or its management where we truly fecked him up with that fax, never refused to train (sounds completely not like him), always loved to put our shirt on and showed respect to fans. To me really not many Man United legends have such a clean record of not acting like a piece of shit even once - unlike for example Rooney. I’m the last one to think our fan base is any more racist or nationalist than any other, but I remember well being just sad reading posts questioning Dave’s loyalty when he started having a much worse period (compared to few years running being our best player by far and best GK in the world) and saying it’s his head that’s not in, that he doesn’t care about the club. Same for all the posts to kick him out from the club after the EL final penalty. I think it was very much uncalled for and I’m very glad De God is still here. To me he’s up there with Pete in terms of GK and their impact on the team and their class.

I wouldn't say David's nationality was an issue. It's more to do with Henderson being academy product and English that when David had a slight dip in form, many here were ready to dump him for an inferior player ( atleast at this stage of their career). Also somehow his salary was also brought in discussion despite him being the only player in our team to have earned that contract when it was awarded to him.

He's been great. Probably earned us 4-5 points already.

Has his partner joined him in England with their new baby? That would most definitely help a great deal.

Him and Luke Shaw have validated the age old theory of the importance of competition for places. Hoping we will see some great attacking displays this season as we have a lot of competition there now.

Defo, if we’d won a few more titles he’d be considered our greatest keeper of all time. Great thing is as a keeper he might still be in his prime years or actually approaching it

He's been absolutely great this start of the season, impressive saves against Wolves and Saints and obviously the stopped penalty against west ham.

Long may it continue.
