Even Barkley seemed surprised.
If we had another Rasmus / Garnacho level of intensity player there and we are winning that ball and countering them. He’s so gutless in his work rate. Ronaldo Rooney and Tevez had great intensity. I think we need to try replicate that intensity. Find the final piece of the jigsaw for the attack. Someone who is always pressing hard who is either lethal in front of goal or can play the final pass.

He must also have a head made of glass. Any opposition player who even strokes his face and Rashford goes down like he's been beaten with a baseball bat
he feigned injury after losing the ball running into 2 defenders, was quite funny to see. Thing is he stayed down for ages as the replay shown he got a brush on the forehead

Too many of them videos, it's not a once off. Have to do everything we can to get rid of him. He obviously doesn't care. There are enough bright sparks at the moment to survive without him. If that was Pogba the media would have been all over him.

This and him faking injuries after getting dispossessed was infuriating.
But apparently he was outstanding @Doracle
Got hit in the eye didn’t he? Not a foul but fairly obvious it would be painful.

Anyway, it’s clear he played well today so you need to take a good hard look at yourself as to why you feel the need to delude yourself otherwise. It’s not a good look.

Does mbappe walk around like Rashford when he’s playing for PSG in the league? Does he press?
Nah, Rashford is the perfect replacement defensively.

Mbappe is 3 times won the ball and once actually kept it - this season.

In fact Rashford makes more challenges and tackles this season (12) - games played numbers are similar too.

He is probably instructed to not "waste" energy on pressing against teams in the league and instead save his energy for going forward, they will win the league easy anyway and most matches. He seems to play with much more energy in CL and for the national team. So to see him walking in the league is expected.

So the biggest difference having Mbappe not pressing in France and Rashford acting the same way in PL is their stats.
Some of Mbappes stats;

* Mbappe has scored 316 and assisted 129 goals in 425 career appearances for club and country, winning 15 trophies.
* Mbappe has been Ligue Un top scorer in five consecutive seasons
* Mbappe was the only player to finish as top scorer and assist provider in the same Ligue 1 season
* Mbappe is the only player to win the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award in four consecutive seasons. He was also the first player to win it in three consecutive seasons.

Him and Onana have one thing in common: they stop trying when they think it's pointless to do something. It does my head in looking at a player just standing around and giving up.

He’s a disgrace.
Don't be stupid.

He was staying in his position and the ball went backwards.

Why are people so keen to hate on Rashford that they take a 30 second clip and use it out of context like this?

It's completely insane the language used in this thread.

It's just his own support who just criticise him for everything he does now. That's also ignoring the non stop media coverage about the Belfast incident.

Also, who on earth are you playing on the left instead of him? Why would you ruin a fairly settled front three that everyone acknowledges has helped Højlund thrive?

If you think that was acceptable in the dying minutes of the game while protecting a slender lead, then you are on your own.

Perhaps, it was a tactical decision for him not to press?

After all, they got nowhere near the goal with this attack so maybe it worked?

I don't mind analysis of his performances (obviously) but this utterly bizarre thing of saying he's not bothered/not trying is not actually based on anything other than people's perception from out of context clips in a game where we actually won.

The opposite of Antony. He is only ever useful going forward, and even then only some of the time. Complete non-entity in either pressing or defensively. The left side wide open. And unlike Antony, who at the very least always works hard, Rashford's give-no-fecks attitude is starting to really get to me.

A serious club would be shipping him off to PSG for a bag of money in the summer. Simple as.

The biggest improvement in the last weeks has been moving Garnacho to the right, now a lot of things happen on that side and we don't rely that much on Rashford to progress the play as he's quite poor at it (unless he can simply run with the ball).
I'd be looking to move him on, he's great at some stuff but overall too limited to build the team around him, and you need to make him the main attacking threat if that is going to work.

Are people seriously suggesting that Rasmus form is down to Rashford?
The big issue is that we just don't create enough chances in settled play. I would go into more detail as to why that is and what needs to change but this is the wrong thread for it.

And as far as Hojlund is concerned he deserves a lot of credit for his own form as the stats below suggest. I think we can only get better as far as creating chances are concerned, but there has to be a change of mindset with certain players who will have to become a little more team oriented in the final third.

No. But calling for him to be dropped when we are starting to (collectively anyway) score goals and have nobody to replace him is absurd.
Rashford has had zero impact to Rasmus goal scoring form whatsoever, him being part of the front 3 has fvck all to do with it.

Agreed. We have got to move away from these individuals where they only care about their personal glory and not putting the efforts in when we don’t have the ball.

Thought he was fine, if a little quiet.

It was notable that Osha kept getting dragged across to help Mengi on that side, and no surprise that the majority of our shots came in that right half space he'd otherwise have been guarding. He's far from our most inform player, but he's still the one opponents adjust for most.

Correlation doesn't always mean causation but since we've lined up: Garnacho, Hojlund, Rashford, we've not lost and only dropped two points (against a side that started that match 8 points above us).

It makes zero sense changing that now. From a control perspective, we didn't do any better against a League Two side when Rashford wasn't playing.

It's worth evaluating at the end of the season but when there's literally nobody to come in and do better than Rashford, why would you change it now?

Fair comment.

The other thing to take into account is having Lindelof behind him has probably made him change his game slightly.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Garnacho developing a regular partnership with Dalot has seen us improve massively on that side of the pitch.

Clearly an improvement. Better dribbling, more energy and some decent passing. His tracking back and pressing is still not great and seems a bit chaotic.

Also he needs to play quicker passes. Partially this is due to the LB and Bruno not taking up the best spaces but we need more fluidity as there is not enough time in modern football for static movements.

I mean he is far from the only player in the world that has done this

Are people seriously suggesting that Rasmus form is down to Rashford?
I mean sky put a graphic up that since the front three have been a thing we've scored more and won more games than previous I mean the evidence is there

There are genuine things to criticise him for sure but some of this thread is just ridiculous

Not suggesting to change it now but saying Rashford has helped Rasmus goal scoring form is nonsense.

It's a frustrating place to be, but very little good happens on our left without Shaw in the team.

Some of our more disjointed performances earlier this season have reminded me of Leicester last term, which is hardly surprising since they regularly lined up with no left footers too. Unfortunately there looks to be nothing we can really do about that right now.

I don't understand this modern obsession of faffing around with the ball, he is terrible for it. Beats a man, stops, and then tries to beat him again, just cross or pass, stop faffing about with it. It's not just him that does it, but he is one of the worst offenders.

Awful again. He complicates the game time and time again. Tries to get by his man, and does this stop start stutter step thing that never works. Like a shit version of Nani.

And to make it worse, he offers nothing in defense either.
