I agree with this guy. I said something similar where I thought that we'd either give him some sort of new deal or cut him loose.

I can see this being a tough Summer if Ten Hag does stay. If it was a case of letting Ashworth, Wilcox etc sort the signings and Ten Hag focus purely on the coaching, I would be more open to a third season. But his recent comments suggest he can still veto signings and put forward his own targets. His recruitment hasn't worked and I can see some internal tension if he's still there suggesting the likes of Brian Brobbey and vetoing anyone who hasn't played in Eridivise

I'm still scratching my head about his reasoning for signing mount and going in to the season light in striker options and if he truly thought martial could have been relied upon then he is hugely out of his depth and naive.

Was the argument that we needed to add to the midfield which would be bizarre because mount is not a midfielder and we then went and then got rid of fred when he would have offered more of contribution this season than mount and amrabat in midfield
It's the kind of thing that might work with ajax domestically but betrays ten hags naivety in terms of what works in the Premier league

I assume this is a WUM, if not I really cannot even begin to respond to it, just blows my mind

Just out of interest how do you rate the other "great managers" Pep, Klopp, Wenger, Mourinho, Ancelotti etc...
They are all the same manager. The only difference between managers is the time you give them. Otherwise anyone can do the job just the same.

I think ETH would accept any sort of arrangement re: transfers if he's allowed to stay here, which I don't think he will be.

I think the points being raised on MNF are pertinent. With Liverpool, Barca and Bayern all looking for managers, and with us at the start of a restructure/looking likely no CL, how likely are we to secure the right person to manage the team?

You're probably looking at Tuchel coming in if not ETH or a really left-field appointment. I guess what the board need to work out is how much will a potentially 2nd/3rd choice manager improve us, and is it worth the added hassle with all the restructuring needed in the squad/board.

Every player there feels so comfortable on the ball as well, makes a huge difference and then you have players like Mctom, Maguire, Rashford, Bruno who may well be good players but are simply not suited to that level of football, they are a very sit deep and counter group.

I am delighted that Carragher highlighted ETH's terrible tactics. This really can't go on. It is quite literally schoolboy stuff.

He looks increasingly out of his depth, probably the worst performing manager in the country in relation to his resources. Neville knows the game is up too, pretty much said he thinks he's on borrowed time.

Just seen the Carragher video on MNF, my god lads. What is getting done on the training ground?

Players all shying away from the ball. Our shape defensively and on ball is terrible.

Looks like no coaching getting done from that video and happening every week we play.

He's done now. Just hoping that Dan Ashworth and INEOS have a good idea of where the club is going.

So important that a lot of these players are shown the door as well though. Too many have shown themselves up.

This is why EtH has become the first Manchester United manager in my lifetime I have actually called for to be sacked, despite me liking the bloke generally and acknowledging the less than ideal situation at board level and with injuries.

The fact is, his tactics are baffling and leave us incredibly vulnerable. It's not obvious what the benefits are, the players look confused and we're so easy to play against.

I am Ten Hag out, but the below video has made be rethink:

https://x.com/statmansticks/status/1762247427979870560?s=46&t=-CWsO3kA7ZeCOTYwtcOsQg

All I can think about is how every player in that team is so comfortable passing the ball. I can think of Martinez and Mainoo who have that ability.

I actually fell sorry for Ten Hag after that! Our recruitment is so poor, our players are so poor in ability.
You feel sorry for the guy who has the biggest say in recruitment? Ha!

By the way Ajax ended on 42% possession in that Madrid game. It was not the possession masterclass that it being made out to be. If that Ajax was as good in possession as people are making them out to be, they would have gone to the final after being 2-0 up at home (3-0 on aggregate). Instead, once again Spurs take 60% of the ball and beat them 3-2 to go to the final.

SJR has already made it clear that it is up to him and his trusted few who will decide on what we should be seeing on the pitch, then they’ll choose managers to make it so. This is the correct method, as you then build a squad of players and set up the academies this way, and it is only the job of the manager to coach them players.

I don’t expect the football we’re seeing now or anytime during this season is what they want, so I expect some very quick decisions to be made regarding ETH.

If he doesn’t show that he can play the football they want, he is out. However, I think I agree with Nev, they’re smart people and seem to be ahead of the curve with recruitment, so they’ll have made a decision or very close to.

I also think that we may go the way of Bayern and announce ETH’s future as I suspect we’ll be putting feelers out for other managers and that will most likely get leaked, which wouldn’t be a good look. I think they’ll get ahead of the media and make the announcement.

Unfortunately, what happened is a select few people got behind ETH on here and claimed he was a great possession based manager, and other things. The majority bought into it and then the fallacy that he was similar to Pep and Klopp was born. I hadn't seen much of his Ajax team but was asking questions of posters making these claims to dig a little deeper, and was eventually willing to give him a go. But after just a few games I could see he wasn't setting us up to play possession football at all and I questioned it on here.

We were honestly conned with this guy - and I 100% believe the club knew who the supporters wanted and acted accordingly. That tweet is just continuing the bollocks. So what his team made a few passes against Madrid, well done. What about the other seasons where they were dumped out of the CL by the likes of Benfica? These guys just need to accept they were wrong and move on.

Whilst I am not calling for ETH to be sacked, his performance under pressure this season suggests he is following the Peter Principle of being promoted to the level of his incompetence.

Your last sentence says it all.
The reasons I am not seeking a replacement is that things/positions above ETH need sorting yet, before we engage another new manager and we might still just scrape into the CL, 'fair wind ...' and all that

Pep can easily do that because of squad depth, Erik can't. Big difference.
Nonsense. Rashford has been atrocious, he could have and should have been dropped, many times over. Lack of squad depth is not an excuse.

He has a habit for embarrassing European exits, one might say. Tottenham, Benfica, Getafe, Galatasaray/Copenhagen, Sevilla...

What would you recommend we do to speed up the process how long do you think it will take?
Ideally hire someone who isn't such a complete amateur that Jamie Carragher can eviscerate their coaching philosophy and execution every MNF.

Those 5 players along a line with absolutely no passing options is complete fecking madness. What the hell happened to passing triangles? How in the hell can you expect to play ANY game of football (against Newport County even!) when the players on the ball have 1 choice of who to pass to and every other player has pushed on? Tuchel even admitted as much after playing us with Bayern - that we are basically suicidal and asking to get battered every match.

It wouldn't matter -what- level of quality those players were but Mainoo and Lindelof standing on that line wanting to run in behind just makes even a fantastic player like Mainoo look like an amateur.

How did Ten Hag ever think this was gonna work? And nobody is gonna convince me otherwise. It's 'sort of' worked in niche situations against teams that have failed to make the most of their counters and our inevitable mistakes, but really, we've been flattered this season by being in 6th, Liverpool had like 30+ shots against us and to be honest probably should win 7-nil against our amateur coaching every single game.

I was a devoted supporter of Ten Hag for an extended period until he lost me eight games into this season. By then, anyone with a decent understanding of football could discern that things were not heading in the right direction with him. This isn't solely about injuries or the absence of quality players; it's more about the team's structure and setup. People keep on saying we do not have a system or pattern of play, that's not accurate. The system exists; it's just a flawed or even detrimental one, but that doesn't negate its existence. Jamie Carragher articulated this flawlessly. The issues have persisted since preseason.

Mason Mount was brought in to complement the system of playing with two attacking midfielders. We consistently adopt a low block and high press because Ten Hag doesn't prioritize ball possession or game control. Control slips away early in games, and there's a failure to address it during the match or in subsequent ones. It's a recurring theme every game. What kind of manager is that? Yet, some people believe he should be given another season? I doubt he is a manager with a discrete football philosophy. his football is determined by the quality of the players he have and we should stay away from those type of managers in out next appointment.
The last two sentences are stupid. A managers job is to win football matches through maximizing their best players. This modern day obsession with philosophies and styles, is mostly a load of nonsense. Would you say SAF had a discrete philosophy?

Of course it is an excuse, you can't afford to drop every player who underperforms if you don't have the squad depth, it is as simple as that. He did drop Antony, you can't expect him to drop half the team without enough depth ffs. Especially as we are especially thin at forward line.

The analysis is quite lazy from Clichy and Carragher. Sure, United lack cohesion; it's clear. But ultimately, football is an invasion sport, thus chaos is inevitable. Teams can't be positionally perfect throughout the 90 minutes.

There is quite a lot of room between "being positionally perfect throughout the 90 minutes" and "playing like United now".

Thats still not the majority and you are including loans.
This is the first team squad according to our website -> https://www.manutd.com/en/players-and-staff/first-team

this is the composition of the squad:

Onana - ETH
Bayindir - ETH
Heaton

Martinez - ETH
Malacia - ETH
Evans - ETH
Kwambala - promoted by ETH
Varane
Lindelof
Maguire
Dalot
Shaw

Casemiro - ETH
Amrabat - ETH
Mount - ETH
Eriksen - ETH
Mainoo - promoted by ETH
Forson - promoted by ETH
Mctominay
B. Fernandes
Amad

Hojlund - ETH
Antony - ETH
Rashford
Martial
Garnacho
Shoretire

Once more - how is this not largely his squad? What are we doing here?

In any case though we need to fix squad issues to play how most of the fans want the team to play. And we need to have more than 1 viable CF which we haven't for about 3 years
Again, this is taking the conversation elsewhere. To my knowledge, there isn't a generally agreed manner/consensus for how fans want the team to play. Either way, as a reference point - the manager said he won't be playing at United the way he played at Ajax. Lastly, fixing the squad as well as upgrading on an underperforming manager aren't conflicting nor mutually exclusive actions.

The shocking analysis and unbelievably poor stats from the last few weeks have turned me from 'give him next season under a stable structure' to get rid asap.

He either doesn't see the gaping chasm in midfield as a problem, or he doesn't know how to solve it. Neither is acceptable. The worst part is that even with half our team camped around the opponents box we seem incapable of scoring either.

I was leaning towards at least give him til the end of the season but I don't see him as being the man most likely to get us top 4 or a trophy either.

Injuries have been horrendous but his tactics are suicidal and he's showing that he has no intention of tweaking them. Maybe because he knows his time is up.

The only reason I think we'll keep him til summer is to save money, but I'm worried if we do that the dressing room turns toxic and that gives the next manager a more difficult task in the summer. Even players who are behind him right now must be asking themselves how they can possibly deliver on what is being asked of them, eg. Dalot, Bruno (who has been horrendous - but he still works hard), Onana facing the same level of shots per game as relegation fodder etc.

Exactly this.

I see alot of people talking about... the same players got LVG, Jose, Ole sacked will get Ten Hag sacked. That is so lazy.

I mean Ole has McFred Pogba Bruno in most games. AWB, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw in most games.

Ten Hag has complete diff backline and midfield.

It's the same people that do this dumb preaching time and time and time again and end up looking like idiots time and time and time again.

Then when you tell them exactly how deluded they are and they start attacking you, you get a warning/ban with no acknowledgment that you were spot on in the past.

Not a chance on hell we make top 4 now. We'd be better off getting the manager we want in now, even if its sacking EtH and having an interim manager til the end of the season and the new manager starting in July. We need to move quickly if there is a manager out there that the board have identified would be perfect for us. I don't know who that person is but it has to be done asap.

Carragher’s hatchet job was spot on. We’re set up to fail in the basics by the manager time and again.
