The worst thing about him is that he gives the fullbacks and attacking mids no confidence to take up good positions, because they always know there’s a good chance they’ll be running back the other way seconds later. It applies to most of our players but him in particular at the moment. You’re forced to either make a reckless move forward or stick on a position that makes us impossible to progress the play.

Unless he completely stopped caring or actively is trying to sabotage us, I'd say this season is the final nail in the coffin for him at the highest level. Scary how fast it goes for some. He was great last season.

He was one of our best players last season
Great last year.
. He was great last season.
He wasn’t even that great last season either.

His reputation & name carried him for large parts of the season. He had a very good few months in between a very poor start & very poor finish to the season. The signs were there early on that he was going to drop off a cliff. People just didn’t want to see them. Very similar to what happened with Matic, but worse, as he doesn’t have the technical ability on the ball that the Serb had once the legs had gone.

They aren't trying to win the CL ffs  he'll be fine over there. Unless we force him to stay for another year because we cant afford a replacement.
Why would we care if he is fine there or not, completely irrelevant.

They are curbing their spending and any prestige he has left from Madrid is rapidly diminishing. Hopefully he is desperate to go there.

We have such a terrible coach that it might be worth seeing how he plays next season, assuming we replace Eth. He is the greatest of all time in a deep midfield role that doesn't necessarily need you to be 25 years old

An absolute waffle, surely I could count many deeper midfiled players that were better. He was very good in his prime but the greatest? Casemiro? you are having a laugh.

We will be better with with any of the deeper midfielders in the top 10, that is how bad he has declined. Zero mobility making him worse than he is as he does not contribute much on the ball.

He has been awful the last few games. Jumps into tackles and leaves us without any cover because he can’t sprint with anyone.

Perfectly described. Another 70m wasted. We need to forget about these players at the end of their careers. Pretty sure we would have been better Paying 100m for Rice that season than paying 70m for Casemiro.

Pep would have collapsed on the touchline if a player of his put in such a performance on the ball.

I think he's the most careless player I've ever seen play for us. Older Giggs and Alexis Sanchez were wasteful as is Bruno. Fred on a bad day is probably the worst but Casemiro wins by a mile because he could be unmarked in space and still feck up a pass or attempt a hollywood pass when there's no need.

It’s like we learned nothing from Fergie’s time. Dont buy old players with no resale value who’s already been at bigger clubs.

He has to be sold as early as possible in the summer.
Sold? We should be happy if someone takes him on a free, he still has 2 years left on his £350k a week contract. Nobody is going to pay anything for him considering they will have to pay him a similar wage to get him to sign.

Forget the shite performance, needs to be shipped out to the Saudi League for kicking it out play for Diaz, don't think he get's what this game means to us.

That's an average salary in Saudi.

70m for Casemiro is looking like even worse value than 95m for Antony.

Also the excuses being made for him are something else. I agreed at the start of the season when he simply looked overwhelmed and isolated but he can barely complete a simple pass under no pressure these days.

He was absolutely diabolical on the ball but he does make us a bit more defensively solid. His positional instincts in and around our box are the best of any of our midfielders, probably better than most of our defenders. It isn’t a coincidence that the ball seemed to be constantly finding him whenever it was played into our box.

His passing though. Boy oh boy. It’s so bad it sometimes looks like deliberate sabotage.

He and Mainoo both won a lot of tackles, their numbers are similar. Which makes me wonder if we really need his steel or physicality or whatever it is he offers these days. Someone like Neves could work.

Was horrendous. Funnily in the first 5 or 10 minutes he played 2 beautiful passes with loads of pace and precision and I was thinking we might be in for a surprise from him. We weren't.

His legs are gone and whatever pace he had is definitely gone. He might be alright if he'd just sit back and had someone more athletic beside him, but he runs forward and just trudges back like he's got cement boots on.

This is all true. Also last season his goal and assist attempts were significant. He’s not getting the percentages this season at all. I think his game and fitness has gone downhill also. It’s so annoying having to replace someone so expensive so quickly

Was it him or Mount who cut out another certain goal at some point in the second half?

Can anyone name a CM who can do better in ETH’s system?

Still, we overpaid too much considering his age.

Everyone shitting on him, useless, abysmal, etc, but no mention of the unbelievable pass to begin Mainoo’s goal as well as the brilliant defensive play that got the ball to Hojland, which should’ve ended up as the winning goal by Garnacho/Bruno. Those and a few other offensive and defensive gems, but let’s not mention those. Indeed a comedy of errors on his part, but arguably he kept us in the match, per usual.

Would love to see him as an attack minded 8 or even in Bruno’s position with almost no defensivo duties. Guy’s an amazing playmaker and passer and decent scorer and someone who makes shit happen. Unfortunately becoming a defensive liability. Push him forward Hag.

This is a very underrated point. It got so bad that at points the midfielder closest to him stopped running just so he could play the square ball and he still managed to feck it up.

Casemiro took a beating on the caf but he actually held up his end of the bargain today. But no, he's no prime Keane or even prime Carrick.
