I 100% don't believe Ten Hag when he says he wanted Casemiro. This was definitely a club signing. We desperately needed a midfielder, but this was not intelligent business.
Do you believe anything else that he says? Why are those things true but this isn't?

Looks like he’s leaving at the end of the season. Last season genuinely reminded me what a world class midfielder looked like. We need to find a 24 year old Casemiro.

God help us if no Saudi club wants him. We will need to hope and pray he longs for a return home to Brazil so that he accepts a huge pay cut.

Yeah, he's definitely Schweinsteiger'd. Was hoping £70m would get us more than a season, quite sad.

Had we paid £100m for Rice instead of Casemiro for £70m, and not signed Mount for 60M (and signed him on a free in summer 2024...) we would have been so better of.

He’s a moron but that’s a spot on analogy.

He had some great games last season but almost since the beginning with us he’s had the air of a player having a bit of a go, trying something new for a laugh and getting paid one or the highest wages in the league for his trouble.

His legs are gone. It's not that he's not trying, it's just that he can't
It's 3 reasons:
- Legs are definitely gone to a certain extent
-He probably wants out and is trying to just end the season without an injury that can jeopardize a move
- The set up he's playing in is suicidal for most CMs

Who on earth sanctioned this transfer, surely the fact Madrid were desperate to get rid told them to be cautious.

Why would Madrid sell if they didn't know he was in decline. Big clubs only sell when players are done, surely we'd know that given we were a top club not to long ago.

It can both be true that he has declined (rapidly as the season has gone on) and that Ten Hags system is horrible for him and making him look far worse than he is, and making him decline more rapidly than he otherwise would if we played more compact and closed the space the midfield needs to cover.

I think Casemiro realized early on , maybe even before he came that we are not a serious club such as Madrid , Barce , City , Liverpool etc where you are expected to challenge year in year out for titles etc so you can wind down your career here and get paid very well for doing it.

Some did have the audacity to point this out at the time, but were shouted down by cries of ‘BUT ITS feckING CASEMIRO!”. It literally was BASTIAN feckING SCHWEINSTEIGER!! all over again. This club is like Groundhog Day at times.

Amrabat must be extremely frustrated at not getting a shot. Casemiro has not put in more than a handful of good performances all season. It's actually a joke that he keeps getting picked.
Eriksen even more!

Some of the decisions he makes are unbelievable and don't look anywhere near what last year's Casemiro would've done. He commits to challenges where he can't get anywhere near the ball and he does this way out of position, he is not sprinting back, he is not tracking runners from the middle, and he doesn't play the correct pass. Dear me, he went from one of the top 3 performers into a liability in span of a few months.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing
I said it at the same we should sell him for a good offer.

I was told to play FM. This isn't hindsight, but foresight.

He was showing signs of decline even last season. People were blinded.

Common thief, has given up playing and is now playing like someone who doesn't give a shit.
I will run him out of Manchester if I come across him. Runs into tackles without assessing the situation and makes impossible passes. Has the composure of a virgin boy in a stripper club

This one hurts. Genuinely one of the best midfielders in the league for much of last season - but now aside from a game or a half here and there he’s been an absolute shadow of himself this season.

Mix between his legs, his mentality, the players around him and the system all piling on to make these abysmal performances.

There were people in this thread throwing a hissy fit at suggestions of selling him last summer.

I wonder how those people feel now. He's been fecking awful all season. It was obvious he'd fall off a cliff at some point.
There were posters on this site that were creaming their pants when we signed him on a 5yr deal and thought we got him at a good price.
The silence is deafening!

The players around him? That would be arguably our best player in the last 5 seasons and one of the brightest young talents in Europe.

That’s partially a mis-read.

The players around him, and the system we play, absolutely does not suit him in this situation. Not that we should change the squad completely to accommodate Casemiro but this club loves square pegs in round holes.

If he isn’t working in this role/position either he doesn’t play, or we change things around him in a manner it benefits the squad as a whole.

Casemiro this season isn’t a golden goose that we should play to his tune, but I’m sick of the midfield being none-existent. Mount was a completely ridiculous signing on the basis we didn’t need his type of player.

Some of his touches were downright shocking. Needs to go this summer and I'd honestly prefer not playing a DM / putting Mainoo there for the rest of the season than watching him put on shambolic displays every week. Mainoo Mount and Bruno
