It’s important though that we get exactly the players he needs (in particular FDJ and de Ligt), and that we have no injuries next season. If we once again have to face having first team players out then we will struggle.

The goal next season should be getting back into Europa League and then we should kick on the year after with a proper top 4 challenge. Let’s not set expectations for him too high because it might be too stressful.
Ye I’d rather set the targets low so anything higher is an overachievement. That’s why his expectations this year are so high because he overachieved last year and finished 3rd with a trophy. The new structure that’s being put in place will make sure they sign the players for the style we want to play so if we can’t get FDJ they’ll find someone who’s similar instead of signing a Casemiro who plays completely different… that’s what confused me, he said he wanted FDJ to play the Ajax way but then he signs Casemiro as his replacement. The new structure will sort that out

- Lack of serious noise around it
- New decision makers not all being in place
- Cost
- Avoiding extra upheaval while backroom staff is sorted
- The fact that it would be almost impossible to be any worse next season

I don't think he deserves the chance at all but it's not impossible to turn it around next season with better player recruitment.
My thoughts….

The club would stay quiet at this stage. While Ten Hag is still employed the club would be expected to support him as usual.

Decision makers…. I‘m unsure how many more changes there still has to be made?

The cost of removing Ten Hag is peanuts compared to the loss of revenue of another season without Champions League football.

The upheaval of backroom staff if Ten Hag is sacked comes with the territory, though some may be kept?

Yes the season could hardly be worse, but that’s no reason to keep the manager, indeed it should spell his removal.

Agree he doesn’t deserve a chance, the club is in decline and think it way beyond Ten Hag to turn it around.

That's quite the hot take there.

This club doesn't deserve success while there is no understanding whatsoever about how off the pitch crap impacts the on field.
It's the typical hyperbole posts we see when fans want the manager gone. Same thing happened under Ole, a lot on here thought he was our worst manager post SAF now most seem to think he's either our best manager post SAF or just behind Mourinho.

It’s not a far-fetched viewpoint. When you spend 400 million pounds within 14 months and arguably don’t improve the squad at all, along with falling out with a couple of high-profile players and thereby greatly dimishing their value as players or sale objects, you set the team back years. That could very well be ten Hag’s legacy, and it’s hard to argue another manager has damaged us as much in as little time (although Moyes comes close for me).

I agree. We should be expecting very little from him and should be just happy with whatever he gets us and that he even wants to be here. We are privileged to have Erik as our manager and we need to cherish this experience.

So they didn't sign Casemiro instead, Eriksen was who they gave him as an “alternative” to FDJ but Eriksen was really supposed to be his backup in my opinion

Is he the best? Who says so?
Well obviously there are no league tables of DoF performance but there are lots of sources talking about his work to date and lots of compliments. I’ve thought for a number if years he would be our best choice for DoF but never thought we’d get him.

What I don’t get is people like yourself who because you don’t have patience you’re prepared to move on from one of the best around before he’s even had a chance to start. What kind of message do you think that would send out to potential employees? Dont bother hanging your notice in because they don’t follow through? Nice

Rangnick tried to navigate the United muppet show, failed at that, and was forced to leave. EtH made United an even bigger muppet show considering the power he had and the time he was given to set things right. He is the most damaging manager we have had. post-SAF.
Car crash of a post even if you dislike ETH how is Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund the most damaging since SAF?

Mainoo and Garnacho were already here. And the jury is out on Hojlund. As for the rest of his transfer activity.....

How exactly did Moyes or other managers damage the club? I always see this phrase but never really understood what people mean by it, or if it's just a buzzword often thrown around on here and social media.

Also, who did ten Hag fall out with, other than Ronaldo and Sancho, both cases in which he was in the right?

Yeah ETH needs to get all the time he needs, if it takes 10 years for him to get us back in top 4 then be it. In the meantime all our executives, coaches and players should be working towards making life easier for him so that he can eventually succeed. We owe him this.

There are so many problematic players in the team right now.

McT and Harry were almost out of the door, so they were surely not in the managers plan but they have been extremely influential this season.
Bruno is blowing hot and cold and seems to fail more than pass.
Shaw is injured all the time, Varanes contract is ending and Case has suddenly lost his head.
Rashford is a baby throwing tantrums.

Garnacho, Mainoo, Rasmus have been phenomenal.

There is no way I want ETH sacked. I want the problematic players dealt with first. We cannot repeat the same patterns. These buggers will get Zidane fired if we are not careful.

Dropping his £90m signing helped.

Thank you! :)
Leverkusen is proof of the opposite
I would take Alonso here over Ten Hag in a heartbeat.

But as he’s not available I’m unconvinced by the alternative names suggested. Given they are all coming off the back of largely unsuccessful seasons.
You're skewing the stats a little bit by adding in cup competition fixtures. Therefore you're inflating the goals tally by including our high scoring CL disaster as well as using FA Cups games against minnows to pump the goal stats. No shit we should be scoring goals against low quality teams. It still tells the same story but doesn't have as high numbers.
2.14 goals per game in the league since Jan.

CL not included as it was before that period anyway.

I’ve also said this before in this thread. If we’re arguing over .16 of a goal per game I’m not too worried about the strength of my argument here

Still doesn't explain why you brought up Klopp instead of a different manager like Eddie Howe who also had injury problems affecting results.

Surely you're claiming that if ETH has the right conditions, he would deliver something like what Klopp did? Not just ''far better'' than this season, which is a stunningly low bar.
Howe also did far better last year, so good shout. Does that mean he's now massively under achieving and must therefor go? Was he overachieving last year and a bad manager in general? Or is the judge still out on both him and EtH? The latter not according to many on this website.

I use Klopp because people didn't immediately kneejerk and wanted him out last year, so he at least had a chance to prove that fact.

Thanks for telling me what I'm claiming.

The last few months have seen the minds break of quite a few posters here. I think the issue is that expectations aren‘t realistic in light of all the shiit we have to deal with.

In our first season our expected league finish was around 6th. Almost no one predicted us finishing in top four.

Second season expectation was a bit higher, fourth place. It went out the window after it became clear our new signings needed time and we were hit with too many injuries.

Ten Hag was brave and stupid to come here when we were in disarray. He‘s implemented strict discipline and a playing style throughout the club and had a decent first season.

He has stuck to this style although the squad with all the injuries can‘t do it consistently. It is probably the right decision for the club long term, but it might cost him his job.

So bite me if I‘m staying a bit optimistic. Endless moaning just doesn‘t do any good. A lot of you are just as bad as the media: no nuance and agenda driven negativity.

If we get Southgate it is what you deserve.

We dont want or need Southgate, he is shite. Same for Ten Hag. We dont need losers.

Says the guy no nuance and throws in Southgate, like it is between him or ETH. Ah yes, the only 2 manager sin world football. ETH, Southgate or Potter. Grow up. The answer is neither, we need a new and competent manager. Simple.

We will never compete with Pep's Man City or Arteta's Arsenal at the top of the EPL table with Ten Hag. I don't care what players we bring in and what structure is put in place. Absolutely no chance.

We will lose the final and not qualify for the EL even. And some on here would still give him another season? What for, to fight for the EL places? To have us on 10th place by Christmas? Jesus christ :houllier:

He is a loser, had 2 seasons and gets worse by the month. We are going downhill. Yes, lets give him another year to waste. Pathetic

Makes sense then I suppose. Ye I remember him saying now in that interview with Neville that he wanted FDJ to partner Casemiro as they’d of complimented each other. Don't think we was ever gonna sign 2 world class midfielders though with the money we needed to pay for a ST aswell.

Well said.

If we had to go all the way back to Sir Alex's early years to find the only example of success after sticking with a manager then I could understand some of the impatience being shown by some fans. But of the current top 3 managers in the league, 1 works for a finacially doped cheating club so can be ignored. The other two though, have had spells where they've lost just as many games as ETH this year, if not more. Klopp was excused a terrible run of results a couple of years back because he had defensive injuries. They were nothing like as bad as ours though. Arteta finished 8th twice while he was allowed to clear out key members of the squad and spend a huge amount of money. He's now got them playing some excellent football and pushing hard to win things.

Patience doesn't always bring success of course. When your squad is disjointed, unbalanced and overall not that great, it seems obvious to me that the manager deserves at least another 6 months before we go down yet another different path.

I had already guessed that ETH was deliberately sticking to his plan though this difficult period for the sake of long term gains. Hearing him state that in his recent interview should really dispell the thoery that he's clueless and can't set us up any differently which was always nonsense anyway.

Nagelsmann was my first choice, but he committed to Germany already. I think if we wait, the options will run out.

For me we either give it to someone for 2 years, like Tuchel, he is not a long term option, but at least someone that would get us in the top 4. Or we go for a young exciting option, maybe a bit unproven, but at least someone to look forward to with an exciting brand of football. INEOS have to act and get someone they want according to their vision and project.

ETH is not it. He is a complete waste. Full of excuses and likes the talk, but on the pitch we are getting worse. He is clueless. Hopefully INEOS dont fall for his nonsense and give him another year. The likelihood of us going places with ETH are near 0 after 2 years. Managers dont suddenly turn to gold nowadays if you stick with them, you have it or dont. We all know ETH hasnt got it. What he has done this season respectively not is everything i need to know about his capabilities of managing a top club.

He is not Fergie and never will be even if some on here think time is needed to turn him into one. And the managers before him were neither and all showed that after leaving United.,

Because we dont give him 5 years to turn into Fergie. It is either we give ETH 5 years to show us his real potential or we get Southgate :houllier:

Some of the posters on here. Maybe it is because he is Dutch and wants him to do well. The thing is, ETh got 2 years and is out of his depth. We tried and failed, and it is fine. No more time needed though.

We have spent 400m plus to be worse than we have ever been. The squad needs a much bigger rebuild than we ever needed to do. And we are having the worst season since SAF left.

So yes, he is the most damaging manager we have had post SAF. Spent more than anyone, having more power than anyone, while making us worse than any other manager and needing to do a bigger rebuilt than we ever needed.

Some would argue Arteta shows the value in sticking by a manager. He was widely mocked and wanted out by Arsenal fans around this stage

Another thing INEOS may be considering is that a top name manager usually becomes available close to Christmastime. And if you create a vacancy at the right time, you can swoop a top manager with little competition. See Everton/Ancelotti and Klopp/Liverpool

This summer there will be many teams looking and lots of competition for managers. A few months later and there could be a top manager available who we have a free run at

There was enough of a counter movement without you  and you think of yourself as Redcafe Batman? What a joker

@Fallon d'Floor What exactly do you think my views are? Because I too have concerns about Ten Hag’s ability to be a world class manager and I have never once said to give him a new contract this summer. I think that would be very short sighted and worrying.

I don’t search high and low to find reasons I watch the matches and look at data and the issues. If someone says something I think is unfair I’ll provide context. I don’t think I’ve made a single post in here without explaining the context behind it.

Up until the interview I was told of the belief he was more likely to leave however I think he stays. I’m not sure if that will be a good or bad thing but I think it’s worth exploring how he does without as many injuries and with a couple of players of the profile we sorely lack namely a physically and technically capable DM and a CB of that style.

I don’t take offence I just think it’s very sad that your sole reason for existing on this site was to play at being Batman. Like I said it’s just disappointing given you have some fantastic posts to hear that.

Osimhen was the only one you could consider top quality at the time we signed Højlund but the outlay on him would have been above Kane levels of transfer fee and wages would have taken our budget.

Vlahovic is patchy (9 league games last season in a row with no contribution) , David lacks the physicality but would be a good back up option. The other two again would be great 2nd options but I’d question their long term prospects. I think Højlund has the potential to be better than all bar Osimhen.
I think you're a pseudo intellectual who uses jargon and buzz words to make the same arguments over and over again. Even when people disprove your points or offer legitimate answers to your questions. Defending the amount of shots on goal is crazy stuff, for example. Time is a flat circle.

You'll get what you want, unfortunately. The worst season in modern history won't face repercussions. That's the depressing reality.

Nothing more to add.

We don’t know whether Ineos are keeping him or not. I think if the decision was to keep him we would already have a report from the club directly. I can’t see us pulling a miracle off and winning the cup and will be hard to win another game in the league. It’s too late for an interim, so what Ineos are doing keeping their cards close to their chest is the correct decision. They can then assess after the cup final.

It’s my impression that coaching and general club standards dropped under Moyes when he got rid of a lot of the staff and installed his own guys.

We have no way of knowing to what extent ETH might be culpable for the Sancho debacle.
