Is there any other country that allows all these tv pastors to become so wealthy and influential with private jets, own tv channels, multiple homes, mega churches etc? It seems this country would be a lot better off without making it so lucrative to prey on people. Aaaand...at what pt are they basically no different from i. E. radical muslim clerics or other religion's leaders inciting societal division?
Nigeria.
Two countries with fanatical Christian following.

Does anybody thinks that if the Dems didn't nominated Biden and went for a more progressive and left leaning candidate, they wouldn't be able to flip the swing states and lost the election?
With how much people still voting for Trump, I can't help feeling that someone like Bernie will turn off voters who's on the fence and either won't vote or vote for Trump
Progressives seem to be doing very well in some areas and some conservative dems have done pretty badly. Could Sanders have carried PA like Biden has though? Who the feck knows. I'm sure some anyalysis will start appearing soon enough.

It's interesting because there seems to be a big debate brewing about how much Biden should pander to the republican voters to 'unite the country'. It is important for him to try and heal the division I think most people would agree, but a large portion of opposotion voters are just bat shit crazy and shouldn't be pandered to in any way shape or form.

Dude has a difficult job.

The net worths of these tele evangelists is mental. I chose the wrong fecking line of work. Who cares about morals if you can own multiple private jets.

Kenneth Copeland built his own personal airport from the donations he received.

Televangelists aren't Christians in my opinion. They are simply trying to make vast amounts of money for themselves, using eternal salvation as the carrot. It's the antithesis of the Christian message.
Its not really about salvation. There is a common theme. "The more you give, the more you receive". In Nigeria you see billionaire pastors overseeing congregations where the average wage is no more than $150 a month and the pastors still emphasize on the poor giving their hard earned cash to the church if they want to be rich.
Its a scam.

The "prosperity gospel" is an actual thing among US Christians. I'm no believer or theological expert but I believe the New Testament contains a few passages on the matter; hard to imagine the Jesus described in those books to be particularly sympathetic to the idea, to say the least.
The new testament does make some mention about prosperity but these lot have blown it out of proportion and twisted it.
One of the biggest churches in Nigeria and indeed the world, in terms of branches and size, they expect their members to donate an entire month's salary to the church, this is apart from the tithes. I am talking about poor people struggling.

Hard to know for sure but taking an uneducated, cursory look at the voting breakdown, it doesn't look good for Bernie. It's shocking how many votes Trump got.

It doesn't look like Bernie's pitch of compassionate policy, repair and global consciousness really sells in this America (or even in the UK). Both the right and the centre have left community centred politics behind in favour of a full-scale feck you get mine approach.

I could be wrong though, and it's heartening to see the likes of AOC not sitting politely while we all enjoy the Biden procession, but I fear those on the left have a tough fight now, with less to gain than ever.

He's spot on. Narratives like Defund the Police can be damaging, especially in conservative places like SC. All politics is local in the end.
Regardless of what Defund the Police actually meant, using it as a slogan is a pretty poor political move. Even reasonable people would be put off by it, especially if you are the sort of person who doesn't follow politics.

Absolutely. There’s no better slogan to promote a lawless society than “Defund the Police”. Those pushing for change may want to head back to the drawing board and come up with a name that isn’t so easily fearmongered by the opposition.

Yeah, i agree. I can see what they are going for, but 'reform the police' is much more palatable to the masses.

Sick. These people - the ones running the scam - probably have less faith than I do and I'm an atheist.

All the conservatives on Twitter seem to be heading onto Parler.
I think part of the fun for them is the amount of discussion their controversial (daft, racist, moronic) messages spark. I'll give it a week until they're back on evil socialist maintstream big tech.

What people need to do now is let them. Don't keep track of them on there and cross post their dumb bullshit back to Twitter.

They're deplatforming themselves which can only be good. Not great for people stuck in that echo chamber but still.

Think they'll lose interest soon. Network effects are far too big of a thing for social media. There won't be enough users to attract enough content creators and without content creators it'll get dull pretty quickly. Not necessarily applying to the ultra engaged conservatives but it'll be a lot harder for Trump and the likes to gain broader attention among voters leaning more towards the center if he's blocked from Twitter and co.

No, we don't. Its become far too PC and political over the past 20 years or so. A lot of people watch it just to see them mock politicians these days.
I liked it a whole lot better when Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig were all there.

Yup, there will be a brief honeymoon period of them all going 'WE'RE FREE TO TALK ABOUT WHATEVER WE WANT NOW!!' and then they'll get bored of the echo chamber and be back annoying everyone else on Twitter. And probably still posting on Parler about how awesomely they're trolling the libs..

The Estonian far-right interior minister was forced to resign after comments on Sunday on how the elections were fixed, Biden a corrupt bastards and describing his dream of Trump walking through a valley covered with blood and guts after justice prevailed in the end. The Estonian PM realised it might be a good idea to get along with the US with us having a border with Russia. Was hoping for the whole government to resign tbh, but I'll take this as a start I suppose.

You talking about SNL ?
If so, yeah it's been poor for a long time. Surprised it's still drawing a audience tbh.

It's surely over and only a matter of time before Trump concedes ?

He'll be a lot happier on the golf course instead of the White House for the next 4 years in any case.
He will never concede. His appointed official is blocking the transition-team funding that in every other election has begun within a day or two of the networks calling the race. He won't attend Biden's inauguration and he'll spend the the next 4 years holding rallies at which he'll endlessly repeat of all his lies about the election having been stolen.

From what I can see from a clip on twitter it suggests it was January this year, not 1 face mask in sight so I definitely do not think that it's recent/from yesterday.
It was however delivered by the BBC Newsnight on Friday as though it was part of a package which was within the 24 news cycle/envelope. As I said Newsnight's image is being tarnished on a regular basis now, would never have happened in Paxman's day!

Their election night sketch four years ago was pretty good though. It's fun to rewatch it now that Trump has been finally kicked out.

Ah right I thought it was about it possibly being new, yeah that's poor from Newsnight.

That's incredible, I always thought of Estonia as the most progressive out all 3 Baltic nations, I was wrong it seems. The best thing that we did here in Lithuania is managed to completely discredit and get rid of these people/parties from the governing bodies that are pivoting towards Russia.

People are probably as prone to propaganda/conspiracies as in Estonia but not having a large Russian-speaking diaspora (in comparison to Latvia/Estonia) helped in squeezing a Russian influence here to its bear bones (i.e. social media bots/pseudo solo politicians/few media outlets etc.).

You are joking of course?

It would be his ultimate accolade, all his followers would take up the messages on his behalf, it would be a massive game of 'Chinese whispers', 'martyrdom'...its just what he wants in exile... talk about the transfer of ignorance, it would be writ large.
Trump got caught in his own 'tweet-trap' even as President, people (other than his supporters) only read his baloney because he was President and it was perceived he could 'do things'; when he's on the outside looking in, he can prattle away all he likes, it will make no difference, just noise!
