If he's not getting regular minutes / not impressing by the end of Jan, he'd probably be better off going back to Sunderland. We don't have many competitions left this season and Sunderland are in play off contention.

Garnacho isn’t getting benched. So it’s more of a competition between Rashford, Antony and Diallo for a position on one of the flanks alongside Garnacho.

Amad has earned a shot at the first team following his loan spell. Unfortunately though he picked up that injury pre season much like what happened with James Garner (excellent loan, opportunity pre season and unfortunately timed injury).

I suspect a decision will need to be made which is in the best interests of the player.

a) write this season off at United, loan him out in January and integrate him in the summer

b) find some serious game time at United starting with Wigan in the cup and some PL cameos.

The issue with b) is the opportunities aren’t easy to come by, especially with Garnacho showing he can play both wings and Antony also favoured on the right.

The other issue is after a long spell on the sidelines he needs minutes, not brief cameos. Now we are only left in the PL and FA cup I’m not sure where he picks up serious game time week in week out ahead of what we have.

I really like Amad but the timing of the injury really did mess things up. Mainoo got away with it a bit due to him returning ahead of Casemiro, Eriksen and Mount so a spot was available for him to take up. It doesn’t feel as easy as that for Amad so in the interests of the player it might be best to get him a really good loan and start again in the summer.
Unfortunately, I have to agree. I wanted to see him kick on here after impressing last season but it just doesn't look like the opportunities will fall into place like, as you said, it did with Mainoo.

If he were to go back on loan, my preference would be Sunderland again because, one, I think he's pretty much guaranteed game time when back to full fitness, and two, the football they play and players they have really give Amad the platform to showcase his abilities. Though, with the recent sacking of Mowbry and appointment of Beale, it could be a different story, but I like what I saw in his first two games against Coventry (despite being beaten 3-0 they played their usual entertaining football) and Hull.

Not to mention his partnership with Patrick Roberts. Their link up play was incredibly entertaining last year, so seeing them two together again would definitely a bonus. I think he'd work well with Jobe Bellingham, too, from what I've seen.

I think his spell at Sunderland proved he can handle english football. He didn't just do okay there, he was their best player and one of the best in the championship. If he was a Sunderland player he most likely would have secured a move to the prem in the summer. The kid just needs to get his opportunity and he will take it. From a talent perspective to me he is more talented than Antony. All he needs to do is prove to the manager he can handle the physicality and prove a threat 1v1 and he'll get plenty of games. Rashford and Garnacho will be inconsistent so there will be opportunities this season.

Opportunities are obviously going to be there for him because the RW depth we have is abysmal

Would be a real shame if he left without being given at least a bit of a run. I don't see what everyone else seems to see tbh, but his acclaim at Sunderland last year should mean he at least gets a shot. Especially considering what we've seen on the right all season.

Will never understand these calls for him to go out on loan...actually given our RW options, if ETH sends him out on loan, it will be another decision on his head that he has to justify alongside Mount, Anthony, and mctominay. It would make sense if our RWs were killing it...or at least offering something but Anthony is so bad to watch and ETH will be questioned. 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 dribbles, and crosses completed in most games...this is why we need a world-class DOF becoz We don't have the luxury to be making these kinds of logicless decisions over and over again. Pellistri and Hannibal need to go out on loan, we need to play Amad because he can not be worse than what we have now

I don't disagree with you. He may not end up having what it takes, but I'd definitely give him a run in the first team to build some form and cohesion with teammates. If he can perform like he did at Sunderland, he'd be our best option, in my opinion.

Thing is, I just don't think he'll get that here. He definitely won't play centrally, and, on the right, even though our options are bad, he still has to compete with Antony, Garnacho, Rashford, maybe a Bruno or Mount. Say he starts a game there but underwhelms because he needs to build form and his general match sharpness back up, I don't think he'd be gifted the chance to keep his spot to build said things due to, one, our other options, and two, how desperate we are for points. There's not much room for leeway.

Out of all our youth products that went out on loan last season, I thought Amad showed he was the one most ready for senior level football, so sitting on the bench for the majority of this next half of the season isn't going to do him any favours. With all that said, that's why I wouldn't be against him going out on loan again with the long term thinking of allowing him to play himself back into last seasons form and then integrating back into the team from the off next season. My preference is still to give him a run in the team, though.

I’d be shocked if he makes it at top level. A little unlucky with injuries and picking the wrong club, but it is what it is.

If Amad does not get at least 30 mins against Wigan then I do not hold a lot of hope for him at Utd especially if Antony plays most of the game which I can see happening.

He takes forever to do something, that what I dislike about his game. Even this training match, he thinks he is playing street football where everyone stands at the side watching his fancy footwork. English league wouldn't give you any time and space therefore Amad will need alot better. Antony can sit of the bench and see how Amad plays.

Has to start vs Wigan. Hopefully as a RW.

I’m not convinced when he’s had to play as a false 9.

Hate to be that guy, but it's a 1 vs 1 drill with no keeper. If you look at that drill in terms of what is more effective for real football, it would be who actually created more space for themselves to calmly finish from a good and balanced position.

Amad did a quick move that forced him very wide and had an off balance finish without really getting past the defender but snuck it in with his weak foot. Antony got himself far more space and calmly passed it in.

I don't even like Antony as a player and am hopefully for Amad. But come on, reading into training clips and turning it into a criticism when the video clearly shows something else has to stop.
Yup. Plus in the second 1v1 Antony scored and successfully stopped Amad from scoring. So if we’re determined to read far too much into training videos then Antony > Amad.

He should play in the second half of the season and if he doesn’t reach a good enough level he should be sold. We can insert a buyback clause but playing the Amad waiting game has to come to an end.

If he isn’t going to get enough playing time or still looks raw we should cash in. We probably have the weakest RW competition within the top 8 so if Amad can’t cement that place or ETH doesn’t trust him there is no point in him being here.

I had to doublecheck which player thread i was in.
The guy is only 21 and was one of the best players in the championship just last season. There is absolutely no reason to be shocked if he one day makes it at top level.

Injury this season was a real shame for him.

Just hope he gets a chance to build on his progress last season.
This seems to be a pattern of his entire career though. He’ll play a few and be really impressive but then not play any football for months

He really needs regular football again for a club who’ll play him every minute, to get back to where he was

Id loan him to a Championship team who’ll agree to start him every game

Can't wait for him to get some minutes. My favorite profile of all the talents in the club.

Trust me, he'll take Anthony's place eventually. Watched this kid at Sunderland and he was the main man in a pretty poor team, his mentality was fantastic. He's got some of the best close control i've seen since Hazard. Personally i think he's got a higher ceiling than Garnacho. Exciting times.

By top level I mean a starter for a champions league club. No doubt he should make it in the premiership.

I also felt the same way. Now I'm still convinced Amad is a top talent but considering Garnacho has proved himself in the premier league Amad needs to show he can do the same.

He definitely has the potential to be better than Antony but he doesn't have Garnachos pace

Miles better than Antony. He should start ahead of him from now on. Only positive from today.

Thought he was the only player in the final third who showed intelligence.

For someone who has been out for months, that was a solid 20 mins or so.

Can’t believe i actually saw a United player chase back and make a tackle like he did on gibbs white at the end there. Should start every game for that alone.

More incision than any other winger in our team in his short cameo. Please sack ETH so that a new manager comes and Antony never starts ahead of this boy ever again.
