Don't agree with that, defenders closed off the shot to his right. All he had to do was prepare for a shot to his left.

What did he do?

Stood more towards his right post, left the whole left side of the goal open and then just collapsed as he tried to dive.

I've defended him on here, but there's no defending that, it was a tame shot and he should have got down comfortably and saved it.

Yeah I tend to bail him out too but that was a poor effort at a save. His footwork lets him down again.

The “great diving save” wasn’t all that great either. It was at a good height. As time goes by what I’m most disappointed about by far is his ability with the ball at his feet. He’s a hell of a lot more composed than DDG, which is good. But his passing accuracy doesn’t seem much better. And signing a keeper who’s better with his feet than DDG really shouldn’t have been difficult.

Agreed. I was stood right behind it, slightly to the left of the goal maybe and whatever happened the only place a shot was going was that left corner - if he'd passed to Gibbs-White it was going there, if he shot it was going there. Really, really poor from him over compensating on the wrong side.

I'm not a pro keeper, never even came close.

But even with a basic understanding of the position, the defender has done a job and blocked the path to the right corner and the pass to Gibbs-White.

When a player is in that position with defenders around or in front of them, their options to shoot are limited to one side. So you position yourself to get ready for that shot to your left. Onana does nothing of the sort here, for me it's very poor keeping.

Look at it all you want, Onana´s positioning was perfect and it was just a brilliant effort by Elanga and diabolical defending. I'm sure the genius keyboard keepers will come up with something, but no keeper is stopping that shot, except the experts in the heat of the moment behind their keyboard.

No keeper is stopping that shot? He barely even moved beyond his initial reach. Look at him jumping and falling under his initial position. He jumps of his feet and falls on the same place ffs.

If anything he seems to do the opposite of what you are (rightly) saying he should do. I find things like that almost more bizarre than some of his clangers, surely positioning yourself properly is like Goalkeeping 101 for an experienced professional.

His confidence must be shot, I can only imagine he's constantly second-guessing himself at the moment, and its making him hesitant when he should just be instinctive. He's 29 with over 400 appearances, it should all be second nature to him by now.

We need to find an upgrade on Onana, but no keeper is saving that shot. That said, Onana is so poor with his reaction that he often makes it look like an unseeable shot is actually saveable.

When he’s fit again I’d like to see Bayandir given a proper chance.

Get the angle from behind the goal that really shows how poor his positioning was when the shot was on.

I've defended him before, but there's no defending that. I'd be pretty sure that he knows himself he got it wrong.

I didn't need to look at it any more than the one time from behind the goal I saw it, but the replays show exactly the same as my initial thoughts - he takes a step too far to the left and can't get back across to the only place a shot (from either player) was going.

He's fit now, was on the bench last night. Hopefully he'll his chance again this season, certainly deserved it after his performance at Arsenal and also couple of decent games in Europa.

Nothing wrong with changing your mind about player. He arrived with such a fanfare about his overall play, it’s crazy how far short of expectations he is.

He's obviously not good enough but we might be stuck with him.

I'd accept any type of fee for him and move on.

Just rewatched the goal a couple of times. Pathetic attempt at a tackle by Garnacho. Mazroui couldnt catch him as Elanga is too rapid. Dorgu almost got a block but Elanga is damn quick. Bottom line is the problem was overcommitting on a corner. We never score from corners anyways, why overcommit?

As far as onana, i didnt see any error. He probably could have come out more to block the angle, but Elanga really kept the ball at his feet so i bet he would have gone around Onana and scored anyways (i'm not sure if you know this but Onana isn't very mobile).

My issue with Onana is, that even when it is not his fault (like yesterday), and sometimes even when he makes the save, his technique just looks really fundamentally wrong. I have no confidence in him not letting in weak shots or making unforced errors in the future, because he often looks awkward and unassured.

We have other areas with higher priority (striker and midfield in particular), but we really should replace Onana as well. He will cost us points next season, it's basically a guarantee.

Agreed. He ain't elite at all. He's like a little better than average at shot stopping but has too many errors, so the end result is a negative.

Dorgu could've caught Elanga but slowed down a bit when Garnacho tried to tackle him.

I don't know if I've ever seen a keeper manage to dive to make a save but not actually move anywhere as regularly as he does.

He is fecking appalling.

He just falls on the spot where he is standing

$50 Million dollar goalkeeper. Unacceptable. Inexcusable signing. Absolute and catastrophic failure of a signing. Howler after howler, completely insignificant in the buildup play and absolutely nothing special in anything he does.

We'd be better off having paid another few years of De Geas wages.

De Gea actually accepted a reduced wage offer to remain on the squad, the specifics of which we'll never know.

I miss Edwin. Probably our last keeper who didn't make me shit my pants with every backpass.

You're kidding. That hurts. Saw a rumor of us bringing him back on a free

There’s no return to OT for Dave after how the club treated him, but he actually did accept a reduced wage offer to remain with United.

But at least no one can accuse Manchester United of being a well- run football club!

This guy was scouted for his passing/distribution right?

I was there today and I dont think the TV captures how slow he is with his distribution

Holds onto the ball way too long

That free kick he punched out I felt was absurd too. Am I spoiled between Edwin and De Gea feeling like it should have been caught and held? Whatever, his distribution is atrocious too so I don't get the point

Don't be laughable, be grateful he got to it.

His best attribute is that he can control the ball. Being good with his feet seems to have been conflated with great distribution (prior to his arrival). Since he’s been here, surely everyone can see how awful his passing is?

His control is good, but that leads to him dallying on the ball. Whilst there is merit in drawing in an attacker - doing so and passing it sideways to a defender in a worse position is not helpful in the slightest.

He was regularly hitting those beautiful cross-field passes to Rashford, Garnacho or even Dalot (I'm pretty sure that he had created multiple one-on-one opportunities for him) earlier on in his United career. He just doesn't anymore, he usually hoofs the ball forward, more often inaccurately than not. The decline of his passing ability over such a short period is actually quite incredible.
