He needs to be benched with immediate effect. Let Altay play the remainder of the games this season, enough is enough
I mean look at Maguire hacking it clear instead of letting it roll to Onana. They don't trust him and as a result they second guess things like that. It’s got to be confidence zapping to have someone like that in the team. Seriously, trust is built upon performance. Equally, it is lost upon them, too.
Yoro and Zirkzee have a right to be aggrieved, but obviously it’s not something that can be aired. Over time it can manifest as resentment, and Onana doing us out of European competition once more would surely tip the scales for his teammates, if they’re not already done with him.
I have seen worseSeen some incredible comments saying he is the least of our concerns.
He is topping the table for me. Costing us more games than imaginable
There's zero chance of him getting replaced right now. He will play every game between now and the end of season, bar maybe a couple of league games where we go with our second string team. We might look to replace him in the Summer but it probably won't be high on our priority list.If you're going to make a permanent change of No.1 you have to pick the right moment. From the position of strenth if you will. That moment was after Bayindirs heroics v Arsenal. Much easier for Amorim to say "Well, Altay deserves another chance after that performance" rather than "You are fecking shite André so Im dropping you".
If that change is made now it'd also put an extra pressure on turkish fella to deliver straight away. After that Arse match AB will have had more leeway even if he made a mistake or two in following games. It would also help a bit in negotiations with possible suitors (if there'are any). Not dropped because of being a calamity but 'cause Bayindir is in better form.
Not young anymore to learn the basics, big wages, and even some stupid Saudi clubs will be warry of Onana's doping fiasco. Add that PSR/FFP thingy and its clear that men in suits will have a massive job on their hands to get rid of Eric's clown.
Anyone have that older clip with Onana doing some United interview? He was asked to explain some of his howlers and whether its not a dent on confidence in his ability. With a big smile on his face, he went: "Naaaaah, you dont go from the best player in the Champions League final to a poor goalkeeper." Arrogant gobshite.
Transfermarkt list the following keepers as having contracts expiring in 2026:What veteran goalkeepers are available?
There must be a whole host of 32 year old + international or former international goalkeepers playing across Europe right now.
We don't need them to be the long term solution, just someone cheap who can come in next season and make basic saves for a season or two
Indeed. It would help a tremendous deal with young defenders like we have.I really like we go and take a 32 years old GK like Sommer and VDS who has refined his game. They will bring so much stability with young defenders in front of them.
We signed Onana for 45m and Inter replaced him with Sommer for 5m who is twice the keeper.
Just let that sink in
Watching them again, I think a lot of better goalkeepers could also have made the mistake for the second goal. That's a really powerful shot from close range - it's tough to deal with. Of course, he needs to do better, but it's the first one that's truly criminal to me. Amateur level keeping.
It's not just the mistakes, it's the cockiness that he shouldn't have. He made those comments before the game, and it bites him in the ass. We go 2-1 and he's staring down the home fans and cuping his ears... Clown.Every keeper makes mistakes, but this lad does seem to make mistakes when we really need him not to which isn’t a great attribute to have.
Agree. He's awful. I think we genuinely have one of the worst goalkeepers in the league at this point. It's shocking.Thing is a lot of better keepers might make that same mistake for the same shot sometimes... But with Onana you know he'd do that exact same thing every single time.
Parrying the ball into dangerous areas is basically his speciality at this point. So much so that they'll probably need to add a button for it in the next FIFA game.
Well he might be fit to play, but will he gain match fitness before getting injured again? You need not wait for Mount, as he’s fit right now. Just like Hojlund and Onana are.![]()
I don't think it is a mistake though, the second one that is.Watching them again, I think a lot of better goalkeepers could also have made the mistake for the second goal. Go check out what kind of save de gea made last night. Much closer, much more powerful, and got it away from danger with his legs.Watching them again, I think a lot of better goalkeepers could also have made the mistake for the second goal. I'm not particularly interested in what save De Gea made.Go check out what kind of save de gea made last night. Much closer, much more powerful, and got it away from danger with his legs.
I dont think you're being honest with yourself if you aren't classing it as weak goalkeeper on Onanas behalf.
Yeah we went to jelly for a bit after his blunder. Understandably so.I mean look at Maguire hacking it clear instead of letting it roll to Onana. They don't trust him and as a result they second guess things like that.
Ferguson saw Taibi didn't have the mentality for it and that was it. Yet with Onana we persist, and have spent a fortune on him. The mind boggles, it's a good example of what can happen though.is Onana the worst united goalkeeper ever ? worse than bosnic, taibi ?
No way worse than Taibi - he was shocking.is Onana the worst united goalkeeper ever ? worse than bosnic, taibi ?
He couldnt kick a ball to save his lifeFerguson saw Taibi didn't have the mentality for it and that was it. Yet with Onana we persist, and have spent a fortune on him. The mind boggles, it's a good example of what can happen though.
I always thought Bosnich was a very talented keeper, top level, it was his private life that did for him.
realistically United can sign pope and ortegaTransfermarkt list the following keepers as having contracts expiring in 2026:
Donnarumma
Courtois
Maignan
Ederson
Kelleher
Pope
Ortega
All definite improvements on Onana, but doubtful any of them are actually attainable. Insane that some of these players are backup keepers.
Onana can't catch a ball to save his life. I know which I'd prefer. He couldnt kick a ball to save his life
I hear this footwork is what we paid the vast majority of the transfer fee for. How incredible he is on the ball, rolling it to a fullback with no oppo player within 20 yards of him.Sick of seeing him roll the ball forwards a couple of feet with his studs whilst surveying passing options, to then inevitably pass it sideways to one of the full backs at the last moment as one of the opposing team closes him down.
I genuinely think he couldn’t give a feck whether we win or lose a game as long as he can stroll around being a fecking liability whilst being paid a fortune.
Plus injury. Bosnich started having a lot of hamstring problems right after joining us, to the extent that at times he could barely kick the ball without pulling up lame.I always thought Bosnich was a very talented keeper, top level, it was his private life that did for him.
That's a good point. I loved him when I was a kid, he had real style and pulled off some incredible saves at Villa. I can at least see why Fergie believed in him. Onana I cannot see why we ever were in for him. I'd deffo want to play cards with the Man Utd management and director teams. They get taken to the cleaners time and time again.Plus injury. Bosnich started having a lot of hamstring problems right after joining us, to the extent that at times he could barely kick the ball without pulling up lame.
Taibi lasted 4 games and I think Bosnich was basically half a season.
Onana has been the first choice keeper and played almost every game for 2 seasons. That's why I think he's the worst.
im old fashioned. goalkeeper 1st priority is to keep the ball out from the net.I hear this footwork is what we paid the vast majority of the transfer fee for. How incredible he is on the ball, rolling it to a fullback with no oppo player within 20 yards of him.
Both of whom had good (borderline very good) first seasons before they then fell away and became weaknesses.fair point.
so compared with other GK who have played at least 1 full season
Barthez, Tim howard
Barthez was such a charlatan. Onana feels like a modern version of him in some ways. Both of whom had good (borderline very good) first seasons before they then fell away and became weaknesses.
Onana looked for a while like he was going to do the opposite and have a poor first season then come good in his second, but unfortunately that good form only lasted 3 or 4 months.
