Since Wan Bissaka is back, can we try Dalot as right winger now? He’s at least capable of beating a defender on the outside and whipping in a cross.

To think that we were interested in Bowen from Hull at 25m a few years back but instead went for Dan James, probably to save a few million.

Also, this lad Doku who City signed, why couldn’t he have been scouted?

Guess we will have have to take the hit and bring in another RW last summer at the latest... Very very disappointing today in a game, where I think he could have taken his chances. He is just so useless on the ball, I actually feel bad for him... Maybe we should try to play him as some sort of wingback, he definitely is not good enough a warrant a spot, maybe he as RB in behind Mount or Bruno for some games...
He's basically less useful than Ashley Young and Valencia were as RWs, so maybe there is something to him becoming a solid RB. But he also can't cross. No one will buy him from us so we may as well try what we can

Atrocious winger. Crosses the ball from woeful areas that are impossible to do anything with and comes onto the left every single fecking time. Is it any wonder we can't score and create so little.

In fairness he does try at least.
Dan James does the trying thing better and is ten times the man he is

Who say that he didn't? I bet that our scouts are doing their job. But DoF and managers don't give a shit about it.

I had hope for him but he's utter dogshite. Still better than Sancho though only cause he atleast tries.

What a waste of 85m. Nani got dogs abuse in his time here but he is 100 times the player than this guy. I don't even see any point with Antony anymore. When a 19-year old guy who is just starting out his professional career shuts you down then you are fecking tragic and don't belong here.
He’s not better than Sancho because Sancho is direct atleast can play a 1-2 might be better than Sancho in defense nothing else really.

Maybe so. Whoever is making the big decisions though just keeps repeating the wrong ones.
That is something what makes me angry the most. 2 years ago our CEO said that we will not make same mistakes again. And we did exactly what we were doing before that. Buying wrong players for big money and giving them huge salary. Antony getting 200k per week while he was on 20k in Ajax is astonishing.

There’s nothing left to say at this point. Should be sold at the very earliest opportunity. Dalot would comfortably be a better option at RW. So would Wan Bissaka.

Like Neil Warnock said. Antony wouldn't get a game for him at Huddersfield. Championship or League 1 winger.

Too one dimensional and has no right foot plus he's not even that quick. Ten Hag signing him was criminal and a sackable offence

He's not even the level of a Jermaine Pennant. I'd argue Dan James and Elanga are better. Even Andros Townsend who just signed for Luton (bottom of the Premier League) on a FREE TRANSFER I'd take over Antony and would give you more.

Just Dutch League rubbish. It's a terrible league. Please no more Dutch League player or manager signings. There's a reason every Dutch manager has failed in England.

We need to buy a Cafu or Alves type right back to play behind him. And then sell him.

Hilarious post-match comments in the presser from ETH on Antony.
Any question about Antony is practically checkmate.

- give honest answer (didn't choose this option), terrible mistake, massive error on my part, club would never have bought him had I not convinced them. I'll learn from it.

- back Antony (as he did), look like a complete idiot who hasn't got a clue and deserves getting fired this week. Not sure the bit about Antony being a fighter was wise. He might kick out at opposing players but he definitely doesn't commit domestic abuse.

His transfer thread is so funny looking back.

It's watching a bunch of creeps wanking themselves off to granny porn. Would recommend it to anyone to revisit.
Link? It might be fun reading back all the stick I got for saying he would be a bad transfer because of all the limitations people complain about now.

I wasn’t joking when I said a few months ago his best hope for ever being decent at this level would be to convert into a Fred style high energy midfielder. He’s a winger who’s best trait is tackling/defensive work
That's the honest truth. He has no end product. His best qualities are tracking back, and keeping possession in the middle third of the pitch. He has no vision. He can't pass well. He doesn't know how to combine in the final third to create chances, only ever to escape pressure. And his only weapon is that shot of his. And it hardly ever works for good reason.

This is my post from 7-8 months ago. Even then, I was late on this assessment because I didn't want to be harsh too quickly on a new player.
Antony's short passing in tight areas is mostly to work the ball around. It's usually always with a defender up behind him, where he then passes to a midfielder like fred, and then the ball goes out wide, to a midfielder next to him, or something like that. It's never with the intent to create or cause the opposition defense a headache. It's very toothless.

But yeah, Anthony's good qualities are his tracking back compared to other attackers, his ability to bring the ball up from the lower middle third to the edge of the final third, and staying wide to receive an outlet pass. That's pretty much all he does. He can occasionally score a goal if the chance falls to him with not much defenders around.

He just offers no threat though. He's just another midfielder whose job is to help with controlling games. For an attacker though, it's really nothing to write home about.

What's going to happen when we actually do control matches better because we have a better midfield than we currently do? He can offer nothing at that point because an attacker's main job should not be what he currently brings.
How did people think he had more potential as if he was a young Nani or something? He has only 1 weapon in his arsenal and it sucks.

That story about George Weah's cousin signing for Southampton. This seems similar, how anyone looked at this guy and thought 100 mil, he literally can't beat a man.

Is he officially the worst signing in the club's history? Considering the price tag he must be up there. I can't think of anyone with less ability for that kind of fee.

Hard to say because we've had so many abysmal transfers that cost a fortune

Genuinely not a kneejerk reaction (I promise) -- can you make a serious case for him being the worst value signing in Premier League history?
I was about to say so. Think he is leading candidate for the title.

Someone needs to start keeping receipts in the Transfer Forum. Every time we make a questionable signing, the hive mind attacks posters who dare bring up any concerns.

I don't really like doing the whole digging up posts to get one over on people because we've all had bad takes (even though I may have done it in the past, though I can't remember). I've had some bad ones. It's just, that summer especially, everyone seemed to take any criticism so personal resulting in some pretty unnecessarily rude replies.

YouTube compilations don't help. I recall trying to convince people that he was a terrible dribbler who, on counters with plenty of space to run in to, slowed everything down allowing the opposition to get back into shape as an example, but I was wrong and just hating because there was this compilation of the odd time he beat his man.

I still don't think he's terrible. It's just he was never going to be good enough to play on the right for a big club in a top league because of his limitations. Like @Valencia Shin Crosses and @In Rainbows above, I've said the best thing we can do with him is convert him into a central player. @In Rainbows gives good examples of what he brings to the table (as well as the occasional la pelopina turn to throw off an opposition players balance to buy some more time and space) and none of his strengths (on top of his weaknesses) indicated the makings of a good RF. They don't indicate that he'll be that good centrally either, but there's more potential there than as our RF.

The signing of Antony basically defines ETH. Of all the wingers or forwards you could somehow spend 80 million pounds on, he would have been last on the list of any half decent DOF. It is staggering.
