But who were these great signings in the making then?

1. Remains bollocks. You judged him off the back of one great season with Rangers, not enough to prove his quality and he's not proven any better than Brown.

2. So it's wrong.

3. Remains irrelevant, because they play different roles. Comparing Fabregas to Modric is much more relevant, and obviously Fabregas comes out on top.

4. Gomes is a weak point in the Spurs team, Almunia is far from it at Arsenal and gets far less protection regardless. Lets not get silly, everyone can see Gomes has been worse than Almunia, even Harry Redknapp.

5. Indeed it does.

6. It remains clear as day to anyone other than you that Rosicky is better.

Modric hasn't turned "out to be a bit shit" - I've no idea what games you've been watching but obviously they aren't the same ones as me (i.e all of them). He's a class player and HR basically intends to build the team around him.

Arshavin was the expected signing, as I've already said. It was very close and the player was ready to sign, but Zenit fecked around to an unbelievable degree and kept asking for more and more cash, so Spurs pulled the plug.

You said two players, specifically two. Who was the other one?

You're basing this view on very little evidence.

It does remain true, but it's a pointless comparison.

He's improved no doubt, but you're just being biased to prefer him over Almunia.

Will prove to be in 6 months i.e. would now be the better player. But he isn't. both players were injured, yes, that's besides the point. You're wrong about what you said re: Dos Santoa > Rosicky in 6 months, clearly.

Surprising that, not like you to run away from an argument or anything....

Cesc's a top bloke, and if all us Gunners did ever stop posting here, I bet you'd miss the banter, and our thought provoking objectivity. It's not as if Liverpool are ever gonna mount a serious title challenge. Ever. And Chelsea are on the dec-line.

It was witty on a purpose to see how some would react and Peter might think he's right but there are things in life you don't choose,they just hit you I'm sure you know what I'm saying.
I don't feel the need to justify myself anything and I don't expect anyone to do so and like I said I didn't mean to offend. Arsenal are by far the best opposition fans to talk football with.
 
Why do people use 'he was good at Euros' as some kind of flaw? I mean, most think it's the only reason why he is rated so highly, that those two good games at tournament made his name when it cannot be more false.

He was amazing in his last season for Zenit and their best player in that unlikely UEFA Cup triumph where they really played some really good teams. You can underestimate the competition in whatever way you want, but truth is they beat sides like Villarreal, Marseille, Leverkusen and Bayern, against odds.

If he hadn't appeared at Euros, people wouldn't be able to call him a two-game wonder, which could really work in his favor.

For me in that particular tournament he proved his ability to perform at highest level. Running the show against Sweden and Holland wasn't easy.

Adebayor, Van Persie, Sagna, Clichy, Nasri, Walcott and Fabregas are all better then Modric who is arguably spurs 'best' player. Probably the reason why your fighting relegation... and we aren't.

Too many attacking qualities at the Emirates now Arshavin has arrived (not that I think Arshavin will be a hit actually, Russian players for some reason tend to flop in the Premiership). OK, Fabregas isn;t an out and out attacking midfielder, but he's one of their best attackers and goalscorers strangely enough and is seen as their lynchpin. Buying Arshavin, a playmaker, suggests they're after another lynchpin, one to make things happen and better he buys one now rather than the summer so he has time to fit in sooner than he would if he were to join in July or August at the start of the new season. Cesc in his way to Real or Barcelona? Seems that way to me......

I'd say Hleb is unsurpassed as a dribbler of the ball (maybe Messi) but Arshavin will imo inflict more damage in the final third, but in essence I make you right

Good to know tho' that Wengers cleared up our defensive midfield, centre back and keeping problem with this signing - :wenger:

Messi's definitely better.

But yeah I agree, Hleb's the better dribbler but Arshavin's the more direct one and someone you can always count on to make something happen, a bit like Robben.

Is the goalkeeper problem really a problem?

And Wenger did try to solve the centre mid problem over the summer, but it's always harder to buy during January.

And the solution to the centre back problem's already there- Senderos. He'll come back from his loan and forge a partnership with Djourou, could be the start of something great... ;)

DM is the big one. CB doesn't look so bad with Gallas unburdened, Kolo finding fitness and some good efforts by Djourou. Almunia's done OK as well though long term you'd want a really top keeper (not any around to buy though).

I thought you's might've missed a trick in not going for Lloris before he went to Lyon, with the French connection and everything.

One of him, Neuer and Adler could end up going to Arsenal in two years time if Wenger thinks you need a top keeper.

I'm a bit wary of overhyped Gallic keepers see Coupet et al. Neuer looked good on a couple limited viewings but there does see to be a tendency for the Germans to be the next big thing and then flop (see Hildebrand). Fabianski is only 23.

Usual stuff for a young keeper great reflexes and shot stopping - command of area and positioning still leave a lot to be desired.
 
Yeah feck knows where the top keepers are. We might need one some time soon too, though we have a few good young ones (Zieler and Amos), and Foster could maybe step up.

People are talking up Mandanda, but have no idea really - only seen him play a handful of times.

Tricky one for the scouts - 'keepers are more likely to be plucked from obscurity I suppose.

Only because Berbatov hasn't played in the CC which is where half of Pav's goals have come from. You also might want to look at the premier league assist chart. You know who is sat at the top while Pav, I can't see :smirk:

Have you ever considered the fact that (a) there are usually a large number of threads about Spurs on RedCafe; (b) almost all of the posts in those threads consist of attacks on - criticisms towards - Spurs; (c) almost all of the Spurs threads are not started by me; and (d) I seem to be the only Spurs fan who contributes to RedCafe and thus I'm usually the sole target of a large number of knocking posts.

I do contribute to other (non-Spurs) threads, but far less than to the Spurs ones, partly because there are usually many of the latter. And I do sometimes offer criticism of Spurs - for example I've always said that the sacking of Jol was bad mistake.

Given the circumstances I've described above, and the many ill-informed comments that are made about Spurs, it's hardly surprising that I often respond with posts in defence.
