There's something inherently wrong about Joe Root's face. Can't put my finger on it though

Cook hasn't really had overly spectacular innings recently.
Agree with this. He has been a bit non-superhuman of late.

Edit. And now Root's gone, decent work by the Aussies to get Pietersen in with the ball just 20 odd overs old.

A fast bowler yorking a batsman is still a great sight

It's quite something when you see Trott scoring at a 70+ strikerate in a test match. He must've smoked something.

Nah it's Australia. They are giving away too many boundaries.

Nearly three quarters of runs are from boundaries

Strauss's voice is horrendous. Also Sky should've probably got some Aussies pundits.

Some bad shots but Cook should have put the Aussies in, it's humid and overcast. Anderson would have had a field day.
Might be sunny all day tomorrow!

Interesting to see what the dozen or so SKY commentators have to say, why do they need so many?

Pitch will break up a lot and Swann will be vital in the 4th innings, ball hasn't done much after first 30 mins IMO. England have fallen into a terrible tendency in starting off a series badly.

Yeah. England are just terrible at starting series. Siddle got a hatrick and knocked us over for 200 odd in the first test in the last series.

Broad out.

I've been impressed by the Aussie bowling.

And a beauty to get rid of Bairstow!! Beautiful bowling, another start from an England batter before getting out.

They've been decent in patches the Aussie bowlers but the England batting has been poor, too many lapses in concentration.

At least England have decided not to be able to bat again to make this interesting.

And another  it's nice to see a batting collapse not involving Pakistan.

Pointless review.

Bairstow's one didn't swing, missed a straight one FFS.
He played across the line, again, like almost every one of his test dismissals.

Can anyone actually tell me what he, Bell and Root have actually done better than Compton in the past year?

The usual England start of series performance.

I am so miserable i have resorted to getting the internet on my phone working.

215 all out. Good effort from Australia but now they'll have a tricky session to deal with. England should get a few wickets here I think.

Root I can understand, the other two not so much. Bell's only made 1 century in the last 2 years. Think Compton opening and Root at 6 should have continued today. Let's what our seamers can do.

If the Aussie batsmen aren't afraid to get on the front foot and they keep their concentration I reckon they'll rack a few up.
