Ashley Young - Captain of Manchester United

I genuinely wonder what the players think looking around at each other at this stage. It can’t be good for confidence to have a captain regularly playing like that or the clubs higest earner being absolute tosh or our best player not very interested or our striker offering nothing for 75% of the matches he’s played this season or everyone’s contracts being allowed to get to the very end or knowing your team mate will constantly lose the ball or waste the best chance in the match or make the wrong runs or play half hearted balls and knowing it’s not getting there over and over... 1 goal by fellaini in the champions league at home this season. I actually give up! Wake me up next season!

Has to be a bench player next season. Surely has to be... otherwise the club are a bunch of morons. Why Mourinho didn’t get a right back in at any point in his tenure is ridiculous.
this is so funny because im sure this exact statement was made 2 seasons ago. We are a very unfortunate club and as long as a list of players are still here nothing will drastically change.

If you ban me it's fine..I don't care anymore. I am done.

What a shame that a club like united is captained by someone like a Ashley young let alone still at this club

Can't sort out defence..right Flank and atrackingn departments for more than 6 years even after spending more than half a billion..Really piss poor planing and serial catastrophic descisions

It is sad to see my club in this kind of mess as we can't even register a single shot on target.

Spent fortune on match ticket and struggled in that traffic around old Trafford just to see this scared to death approach with out a meaningful threat?

People can still argue we are in the tie, I know that but what kind of message we are sending to the world by playing like this ?

Why do you think you would get banned for this? I see nothing rule breaking in this post.

There absolutely is a need. We would have won if he wasn’t on the field tonight. I am convinced.

There’s absolutely no need in describing someone as a cancer. Ffs wise up.

This guy is a hindrance to our football and my enjoyment of it.

Why do we always seem to have a few players in the team who get picked consistently despite their performances?

Make it stop, Ole. Bejesus.

He may not be the worst player ever in a United shirt, but he definitely has to be the worst player to ever have more than 100 starts for the team.

And he's hurting the team just with his presence. He constantly loses possesion and always has a look of 'where were you?' to the closest team mate when he does. Or he just hoofs it as far as he can without a second thought. He plays scared, and isn't exactly respected due to his years as a known diver. How that made him captain, I'll never know.

Don't see what Van Gaal, Mo and now Ole see in him. He needs to go where apparently Valencia is, far, far from the active day roster.

She needs ditched asap.

Having him at the club is fine but the fact he starts games against good teams and is captain is quite astonishing at this point.

He doesn't seem to trust his own ability as a footballer. Hoofing the ball under pressure and choosing aimless balls up the line in preference to being composed and confident enough to pick out a pass. His decision making in general befits someone playing for a mid orlower table club against United.

Having him start every game with the captain's armband is telling our own players and every team we play that these are the standards we accept.

There's no point Ole coming out saying he wants players to tae risks and be brav enough to play football if he's going to pick players who fly in the face of that.

Again I don't mind him being a squad player at all and think he's been a very good servant to the club, but he is out of his depth against any half decent opposition. When he was a winger he could at least get away with being direct. as a fullback all of his weaknesses are constantly on show.

Our hope is for Damian to get fully fit, he seems better than Young in term of possession play.

Other teams left in the UCL have De Ligt, Chiellini, Messi, Cristiano, David Silva as captains, and us? we have Ashley Young :(

He's pretty much Young but slower and without the ability to cross.

People liked to whine about Valencia but until he stopped trying this season he was much better than either.

He's lost any resemblance to a footballer. He looks like he's won a competition and gets to play football with Manchester United for a couple of games. Gets the ball, kicks it. Has no athleticism left about him. Ffs he can't even control his leg to deliver a single successful final 1/3 ball.

He should pay the fans his past 4 weeks of wages. He has wasted so much money from the fans with his hopelessness in the past few games.

Actually, our captain is Antonio Valencia officially. Young is the vice-captain. :D
I really hope Ole has no intention of appoint him for the next season.

I actually agree with this. He cost us the game. A quality RB with the time and space that got offered to him would've created at least 3/4 dangerous chances by themself. Those stats of losing the ball consistently in every single game is unacceptable.

Except Young can’t fecking Cross.

There's literally one scenario in which what we're seeing makes sense, and it's an important one.

It's possible that his attitude/influence counters Pogba's in the dressing room to the point where it becomes acceptable to make a sacrifice regarding 'these are the standards we accept' in terms of playing ability vs mentality.

Also there is another thing he is doing on regular basis, when we switch a play on the right, he sometimes gets in situation where he has acres of space and enough time for a cross but for some reason he starts moving towards a defender closer and closer, which usually leads to a block, weird.

Can he not cross the ball first time or quickly? Why does he have to take it under control like he's about to waltz past 5 defenders only to wack it into the 1st man. It's Valencia's fag days all over again. Except Young has genuinely never been a proper United player. Yet he's apparently our captain. Our fecking John Terry shouting at everyone for his own ineptness

Yes this!

He looks to me like he's struggling to run/accelerate & is trying to hide the fact.

This fecking guy. Could have sworn the Caf was exaggerating about how poor he was while reading some of the posts on here. Then I saw the game. Shat himself every time the ball came his way. Either he’s the biggest fecking coward to ever put on the shirt or his legs are completely gone. Either way, will be very disappointed if Ole trusts him again. Rather see Smalling play right back ffs.

He looks like one of those celeb players you see at Soccer Aid. Completely and utterly out of his depth. In fact, I'd take Mark Wright over this guy every day of the week.

Nailed it.

I've seen some shite players play for United, but I don't think any of them come close to how infuriating Ashley Young is, the fact that he has zero leadership skills yet he is the captain and how he kept shouting at the air after his glorious long balls makes me wanna punch him in the face.

I really really hate watching us play if he's on the field, one of the player with least intelligence and composure I've ever watched, never even lift his face up to see where his teammates are when he put crosses in and panic every time the opponent give a slight pressure on him.

Every time he touched the ball I'm on the verge of breaking something around me

Nah, I actually think Ole believes that Young gives us the best chance to win, and he trusts him. If indeed it’s Ole trying to make some sort of statement by starting him, then we’ve got way bigger problems.

He just can't get a good cross in. The sad part is that I think he's really giving it his all and trying but you can see that the body and the legs are not there anymore.

He's a fraction of a second behind most plays. It explains the red against Wolves.

Despite the loss, I am proud of the way Ole and United approached the game. Had a plan, executed well. Our lack of quality and pockets of disasters like Young spoiled it. The players should be proud of themselves.

Captain or not, tonight, "he single-handedly spoiled Ole's plan". End of story.

He runs like somebody walking down subway steps.
