Berbatov | Fulham player

Ironic some of the twats who are first to bump this thread after a bad berbatov performance are no where to see after this performance.

Stood up when needed pity the rest of the team didn't, haters can feck off.

Drool worthy form for me. Well done lad.

There were times he was literally like a rampaging lunatic trying to get the ball back after sloppy passes from other members of the team.

Great to see. It's stuff like that (as well as goals, obviously) that stick in people's mind.

Well he gave away a stupid penalty...but all credit to him he seemed fired up to try and make up for it after, and he did.

At the very worst, any transfer fee should be double of what Chelsea could get for Torres this January.

At the very best, he's after another Golden Boot with us at this rate...

So anyone think Berba performs better when Rooney is not around? The penalty was unfortunate.

It wasn't really that stupid. You see that shit all the time and he was being asked to mark one of the best headers of a ball in the league.

2 penalties were given for shirt pulls at set pieces yesterday. I wonder if the refs have been given any instruction to clamp down or summat.

Yakubu leaned into him and then forced Berbatov to either lose him or take a risk pulling him down. Was more clever by Yak than silly by Berbs I thought. What I liked about this though was that he didn't sulk into his skin and disappear as he has done in the past after making a mistake.

Instead, crazy Berbatov turned up. I like crazy Berbatov.

Crazy Nani turned up too, but he seems to be the type of crazy where the bar staff refuse to serve you anymore drinks, and call an ambulance.

Samba.

Im a big fan of berbatov and hopes that he plays tomorrow night alongside Rooney or potentially with Wellbeck and keep Rooney on the bench. Top performance and unfortunate penalty.

Berba and Wellbeck vs Newcastle.

Let Rooney sit for a few games... like the City game as well! That'll get his head in the right place.

Just want to post a couple stats. Probably been mentioned before but pretty amazing considering his labelling of a flop.

Last season he was the leagues top goal scorer (joint) but rarely gets recognition for that and IMO he won us the league.

Now this season in the league

Berbatov 6 goals in 8 games
Torres 2 goals in 15 games
Suarez 5 goals in 16 games
Carroll 2 goals in 16 games
Gervinho 4 goals in 17 games
Drogba 3 goals in 15 games

There are quite a few strikers ahead of him Sturridge Rooney RVP Adebayor but it's surprising he is still ahead of some players that are supposedly better then him again this season. I know his goals came in 2 games but he should be getting more regular 1st team action.

Also the actual minutes on pitch is much lower but I don't have those stats.

You want clinical? Buy Berbatov, Fletch or Odemwingie (and NOT Chamakh) « Sporting Intelligence

Interesting reading that. Last season, both Chelsea and Arsenal created more chances than United but their strikers weren't clinical enough. By contrast, United strikers, especially Berbatov, were most effective in the league in scoring from clear cut chances. According to the statistical analysis Berbatov has been the most effective striker in the league over the whole season (10/11). The surprising thing is that he was more clinical than Hernandez. Rooney was more clinical than Hernandez, too.

Not surprising though is it that Chamakh is beyond shit. Even Bentender was a better player and they sold him!

And to be honest, statistics mean very little. Statistics don't show that we were a far more complete team in the second half of the season with Hernandez leading the line and Rooney playing the play maker role.

Yes we get it, you don't like him.

It is not clear, however, that we were a more complete team because of Hernandez. Normally, we play better in the second half of the season, the team is trained so that it can peak in the right moment, that is after February. Add to that the fact that Rooney was much better in the second half of the last season. With Rooney on form we are a more complete team, I don't think this is debatable at all.

Hernandez play off the last man created alot of space for our wingers and Rooney to move into. It constantly put the opposition defense under pressure. Meanwhile Rooney was capable not only of scoring, but also creating and distributing the ball with more space and time. It also took the pressure off our midfield somewhat.

We were a much more fluid attacking unit with Hernandez and not Berbatov. We saw with the FA cup semi final when we brought back Berbatov in, that we struggled to move the ball around with his hold up play and Toure capitalized on that.

Berbatov has been good in the last few weeks, because we've closed the play down against poorer opposition, but as we saw on wednesday, once the pace comes back into the game, he goes missing big time. Thats not to say that Rooney wasn't dross, but Berbatov hardly made an impact all game.

Now wait for some statistical bollocks to say he touched the ball 40 times and that shows he made an impact

I may be alone but to me Berbatov is far and away our best forward. Plus he doesn't throw a quarterly tantrum like some other diva.

If we were a more fluid unit because of Hernandez then why weren't we particularly fluid this season with him leading the line? We failed to score more than 1 goal in 6-7 consequitive league games. Obviously, it was due to the fact that Nani and Rooney weren't on form for a month or two. When they don't play well, we don't play fluid football, no matter whether Hernandez, Welbeck or Berbatov lead the line.

Bit of a strange generalization. Perfect counterexample is fulham where Nani, Welbeck, Valencia and the two CMs were on form and that's all we needed. Except for his wonder goal, Wayne was poor. Your strikers do play a part in your fluidity.

Last season, most teams struggled to deal with Hernandez's movement and it allowed Rooney to do his thing. Hence, we were more fluid. That's not transpiring this season mostly due to Hernandez's poor form and the fact that he's had a stop-start season. I still dont think he's fully recovered from all the summer football.

It isn't for Nani was the key player in that game. My point wasn't that we don't play fluid football if one of Rooney and Nani isn't on form. The point was that if both of them are poor, we don't play great football, no matter who leads the line.

It's a dubioius generalization to think that we played well in the second half of the last season mainly because Hernandez was leading the line instead of Berbatov. There were other important factors for our improved form, I mentioned some of them above. And our dip in form in October and November pretty much confirms it. When both Rooney and Nani are poor/average, we aren't particularly good and the movement of the strikers cannot solve our problems in midfield.

What the feck must Berbatov think? Doesn't make the squad while Scholes does?

I've always thought Berba and Scholes can't play together - only space for one of them in the team.
