He was. He was linked with all the top clubs before he joined Newcastle.
As far as i remember he is only linked with Edu/Arsenal before he joined Newcastle. In the end only Newcastle made the offer in the winter transfer window. It is revealed that Arsenal didn't have money to make an offer and Bruno did not want to wait. He has been playing great for Newcastle.

Pretty much the sole reason Newcastle are still in the top 4. 95% of their squad are the same fodder shite that faced relegation every season.

You keep believing that, we’ll quietly go around doing our business and growing the club.

They wouldn’t be top half without him. I don’t know why any Newcastle fan is offended by that, the fact is they do have him so it’s a weird argument.

United wouldn’t be anywhere near the top 4 without either one of Rashford or Casemiro.

Liverpool would be floating above the relegation zone without Salah.

Take City’s star man Haaland out and they’re probably… first?

But we do have him, surely that’s the point and we’ll build a team around him. We have a canny spine to the team in Pope, Botman, Bruno G and Isak. Our summer window could be huge.

Some teams can cope without their best players. The drop with Newcastle is still quite big.
I don't know if that drop is much bigger than say United without Rashford, or Spurs without Kane.

Now if the argument is that he's the most influential midfielder in the league, I think I can buy that.

Definitely. I think you need to aim higher than McT though in terms of midfield options.

Pretty much proves my point. Surprised he hasn’t lost yet though. Defensively they aren’t much worse off but clearly he carries the team going forwards.

Very similar playing style to Kovacic at Chelsea although he's in his prime at 25yrs and currently on a level above.
As far as importance to his team goes, he stands out in the prem right now. Worth his weight in gold to them Geordies!

Like Casemiro, he improves players around him, although having Joelinton converted into another Mousa Dembele through coaching/repositioning helps too. With those two in particular there's a combination of physicality and passing competency we don't have without Cas (plus Eriksen providing passing outlet and control)in the team. Newcastle already dominated the cnetre of the park in the League cup final, so it was unsurprising that things were even worse on Sunday.

Bruno G is pretty high-grade but there are plenty of other players who broadly meet the criteria of strength, agility to break and beat the press, and who can still pass (and show to recycle under pressure) 3-4x better than McT, all of which we should be looking for as profile for at least one squad midfielder in addition to a long-term Eriksen replacement. Without that, particularly with Casemiro potentially being out next time we play a team like this, similar issues are just going to keep occurring.

But what's somewhat concerning is that we don't seem to have strong links to this type of player outside of Frenkie (looks a lost cause) and Bellingham (lot of competition). I genuinely think this type of top level central midfielder is just as important as an actual no.9 is for us. Maybe a smidgen less important. Hopefully it's a case of journalists not having a scooby as to who we're really after.

Criminally underrated. Apparently Newcastle didn’t win a single game in 2023 without him. Against Bournemouth they played like league one team. Instead of wasting 50m on Mount we should have signed this guy for 70-80m. World class talent

What, sign him from Newcastle? The days of Newcastle selling their best players are long gone. If he does leave Newcastle it’ll be to Barca or RM.

He’s not underrated at all? Most have him as the best CM in the PL. He’s done nothing in the CL or for Brazil so that’s where the praise ends.

All the best players are a bit dirty (rooney, shearer, cr7,maradonna,casemiro at madrid etc). I really think if we sign bruno guimaraes we are top 2 team. He has now 100m release clause- we should just sign him

Not to rub salt in the wound but you’d easily have the best midfield in the league with him in it

Look no further for our Casemiro replacement. Sell him to Saudi for £50m and trigger this guy's release clause for £100m.

You can trigger all the release clauses in the world, the player still has to agree to leave, still the players decision.

He’s one of those players who would genuinely give the other teams contesting against City a legit shot at winning the league. Put him in any of the challenging midfields and there’d be transformed into something multiple times better than whatever they currently are. Criminal that we missed out on him.

You think we can sign players from Newcastle? it's not 2003 anymore.

But yes. He's a very good player.

If he is playing for your team, you wouldn't bother and he would be your favorite.

We can if he's got a release clause. The only problem is Liverpool or Barca may also be after him.

And they player has to agree to a move..... Man utd aren't really a more attractive prospect than Newcastle right now. Liverpool or Barca are possibilities.
