CA 2019 - Final - Brazil vs Peru

Dani Alves is the best fullback I've ever seen play football. Crazy that he scored in the 2007 Copa America final and 12 years later he can be MOTM in a game like this

Cafu, Zanetti, and Maldini were all better for my money. Lahm in with a shout too. But he’s a top player without a doubt. The others were all top professionals and not complete twats like Alves, so there’s that too.

That's what always happens. They had a fairly easy draw this time around as it happened in 2015 and 2016. Usually only need to beat one top team in order to win the competition. Group stages are next to irrelevant since every top team goes through, then it's one off matches. Anything can happen.

With them playing at home it's definitely a great chance for them, they showed today they're more than good enough to win it. They were every bit as good as Brazil here, just got pretty unlucky.
Yeah this is the best Argentina have played in a while but against possibly the worst Brazil performance in ages as well. A Neymar-less Brazil is absolutely shocking. The tournament hasn't been bad for Argentina as the performances have gradually and definitely improved with each passing game but they've still got a lot to fix both in defense and to find a decent midfield. Even with home advantage, I see them as third favorites at best.

Alves might not defend as well as all of them but his attacking stats are staggeringly good and puts him up there.

Argentina played pretty well the 2nd half, but they conceded 2 awful goals.

I'd guess Messi plays 1 final Copa and calls it quits.

I agree. Uruguay and Brazil are better teams. From being third favourites to having no chance at all is quite a gap though.

Paraguay win the penalty shootout a few days ago and they'd have most likely been in the final vs Chile or Peru. Small details will have to go their way as it's happened before.

I checked all the Spanish channels but it's not on. I'll give the Mexico game a look though as it's on a few channels.
I watched it on Telemundo.. Might be a location thing (I.e. local channel?)

Definitely the better team today and on another day those 2 chances don't go off the bar. Miles better than their group stage performances.

Didn't even go to VAR.

That's as clear a pen as you'll ever see. Horrific from the VAR refs.

These two teams are trash, I'd back any top euro team to beat them comfortably.

Uruguai beat your current European champions (EuroCup AND Nations League) liek they were children.

And they are not even alive in America Cup anymore.

Stop underrating football around the world like that. I'd love to see an European team in these pitches with this intensity. Brazil has beaten basically Euro team they faced past 2 years

No shame in Argentina losing to a better team. To be honest, the Argies had about as much chance at beating Brazil as Preston do.

Daniel Alves is a boss. That man deserves an impeccably tailored Italian tuxedo, a box of hand-rolled Cuban Cigars, a seaside office and a hot model secretary. Quality was never in doubt.

He actually won that game by himself played as a winger. Against prime Veron-Riquelme, Messi and Tevez. He is immense really.

It's not.

This is:

Brazil literally countered from that and scored the 2nd goal.

Fishier than the Russian players running 500 miles per game at the World Cup.

That's even worse.

Game was clearly fixed for Brazil to win.

I know it’s easy to shit on Argentina, but here the final score really doesn’t reflect the game went.

I expected a 2-1. Maybe a 1-1 (assist by Messi, and then argentina losing the penalties), but this 2-0 must hurt.

It's truly the end for Messi the NT player. He can't do it alone. Period. He has been reduced to complaining about the CONMEBOL as a whole. This might even hurt his (late) career with FCB (brazilian teammates: Arthur, Cou stays? Neymar's return?).

Argentina were good, better than brazil for most of the game. Unlucky to lose really, two defensive lapses and two good attempts off the posts. Brazil even without neymar are terribly solid and have the best defence in international football...

Lautaro is the key for argentina. Makes them play well, starting with Messi and Aguero. Pity they lack a proper right wingback and lack cutting edge against a defence like brazil's. This is promising though, they look like a proper team again at least, after 3 years

We have to be honest here, if VAR is going to ignore both those penalties then the only conclusion is that it was corrupt in Brazil's favour.

I'm not underrating them, that is the level they are at now. Brazil got easily beaten by Belgium in their last competitive fixture against a european team. Argentina well beaten by France. Uruaguay too were well beaten by France. The final 4 at the WC were all European and 6 of the last 8. The proof is in the performances.

None of Argentina's backline would start for any of Europes top nations. And Brazils front 3 without Neymar is a shadow of what teams like Belgium, Portugal and France can field. Maybe even Germany too. 3 of the stronger nations struggled past Qatar...

The standard of this Copa has indeed been absolute trash. Brazil have some standout defenders and everything else has been really, really poor. On top of that every top team is performing well below the sum of their parts except maybe Chile which is why they are all gone out already. It's a poor showing and setting a poor standard. Both sides were absolute rubbish last night. Argentina tried but hadn't the quality in defence, Brazil were useless bar two moments of magic from Alves and Jesus aided by the Argie defence doing God knows what to stop them.

As for pitches, European teams play in places like Andorra regularly and as for intensity I saw very little last night, most euro games are played at a much higher pace. It sucks because football needs a strong Brazil, Argentina to compete with the bigger Euro nations but they just aren't at the required level.

What :wenger::wenger::wenger: You mean the WC? That game belgium won through sheer blind luck?

Maybe I'm getting old but I recall Brazil having lots of the ball and silly long shots but no real clear cut chances and Belgium beating them on the counter quite well.

I know we didn't have chances to win the game, but the referee made sure of that. To me both situations are really clear.

And it's not only those plays, the general game was in favour of brazil.

Brazilian guys on Conmebol are always complaining saying that conmebol hates brazil and bla bla bla, here you can see it's the same. It was clearly fixed for brazil to win comfortably. Referee's wife is Brazil's referee federation chiefs sister

Seriously? Other than the two penalty shouts, which fair enough could have been given, the ref was so clearly pro-argentina it was laughable

To me it was so obvious it was pro-brazil. There's such a clear foul on Paredes in the first half, as clear as day, and the referee says play on. After that play, there's a foul by Tagliafico and he gets the yellow card. The Paredes foul was as clear as day.

And like that, there were other similar plays.

Yeah but i saw it the other way around. Your players were allowed to just scythe down any brazilian, while they couldn't touch you without getting called for a foul. The first half was laughably pro-argentina imo. Second half was fairer, except for the 2 penalty shouts
