This guy isn't the answer, if anyone deserves a chance it has to be Axel. Smalling is a liability who struggles to pass wind never mind a football.

It certainly won't surprise me to see Smalling end up back as first choice next to Maguire, but it's not time yet. Ole rightfully should give Lindelof and then Tuanzebe priority, as if they do work out the benefits that they bring will be well worth it. But if it doesn't quite work (and it wouldn't exactly be the biggest surprise if that's the case) then we need Smalling to come back in and help Maguire just dominate.

Nah, Vidic was significantly better than Smalling with the ball. Maybe not such a big gap in his first year or two with us, but he improved year on year and by the end he was comfortably better than anyone we have now other than Maguire.
I completely disagree. Lindelof is better on the ball, it just doesnt matter because he isnt even half as good a defender as Vidic

So, if Smalling starts the next game and we lose does that mean he should never start again?? I reckon all the lurkers had their posts ready to dive in as soon as we lost a game, ffs.

We lost this game because of another missed penalty and a howler from De Gea. Not because of anything Smalling would have done to save the game.

Half the team struggles to pass the ball, midfielders and attackers included.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Lindelof probably has better technique, but until he really starts showing the vision and confidence to utilise it I wouldn't put him ahead of Vidic on the ball. Vidic knew what he was capable of and regularly played fullbacks and wingers into great positions, and to a lesser extent up through the middle. Although obviously he played with better fullbacks and wingers so that does play a part.

We lost this game because of another missed penalty
You don't lose a game because you miss a penalty, especially against Wolves. You lose because you conceede two goals at home against fecking Wolves. Both on Lindelof side. One was basically 99% down to Lindelof losing a header against a fecking winger, because he outjumped and outmuscled him. A winger.

We don’t need to play him to solve the defence just get Tuanzebe on and will be golden. Tuanzebe always been the better defender/player.

Vidic was actually a decent ball player and he plays a different game when he plays for Serbia. Because of Rio he did not play like that for United.

Mistake letting him go. How the feck is Rojo and Darmian still at the club.

Matic next, any takers?

I understand he's not the worst centre back but he is not good enough for United, so unfortunately you can't pick and choose the order of departures from worst to not as bad. Get shut when the chance comes. Short term loss, long term gain.

Hes not going to be the difference between getting top 4 and not getting top 4. (or challenging for the title or not challenging for the title).

This is a bad decision. Smalling is our second best defender. Feck it though, I'll back Ole.

This just goes to show how poorly our club is run, not long ago we gave him a new contract.

It answers the question after all these years of who would want Smalling if we got rid. Leaving 1 6th placed team for Serie A's version. Turns out it wasnt a midtable or bottom half of the league team after all. It was the same club that Kolarov, Dzeko and Pastore ended up at.

He should be good for pairing with Mancini who has potential.

Fazio and Jesus played their first game of the season and Roma conceded 3 goals to Genoa

Hopefully Tuanzabe can step up and show this isnt a mistake.

99%? It wasn't a mistake, the winger had a run on him, sometimes players miss headers.

And yes you do lose a game if you dont score a penalty. If you score a penalty it is 1-1 then we scored in the 85th minute, would have been 2-1 then you don't need to attack all out keep the ball and win.

It wasnt a mistake for the shorter guy to easily beat him in the air with Lindelof putting no effort into it?

Anyone reckon his stock has fallen because of VAR? Can't remember the last set piece he defended without grappling whoever he was marking. Would be penalties galore now.

Not with the VAR in operation in the PL there wouldn't.
