Most teams participating in the knock-out staged in the European leagues have been struggling at the start of this season. Copenhagen lost their two first matches, so did PSG, City are clearly not up to speed, Bayern München lost 4-1 today, Sevilla struggling against little Cadiz and Leipzig did not look very sharp yesterday either. You could argue that not all those bad results have been down to lack of preparation, but using other teams as arguments against United and saying we only lost due to bad tactics, does not seem to hold water.
Exactly

Did you even watch the match they were sloppy and their pressing wasn't great.
It's not a wierd bump hahaha they lost 5- 2 and the thread is about how they would show us how all the too teams will start fast
They controlled portions, but it's a case of Walker and Mendy fecking it up more than anything else. Madisson scored a worldy so it generally clicked for big moments with Leicester. I think if City had Jesus or Augero on the pitch we'd see a different game, there were quite a few deadly balls from KDB that were just not met.

I agree there was some sloppyness on Citys part, but as I say, the game was won massively from stupidity by Walker/Mendy. I mean, Maddison doesn't score that type of goal as often as you think so it all clicked for Leicester too. 5-2 doesn't really tell the full story in a game where City had almost 75% possession.

What I took from this game isn't that City are unfit, but more that their defense without Laporte can be worse than ours or even Chelsea's!

How myopic does the OP seem now ey?

I find it interesting that pundits choose to ignore this.

Think how poor we usually are the first few pre season games - United struggle against Chinese and MLS teams at the best of times. It's just common sense, if you have no rest and virtually no pre season of note, you'll be behind everyone in your performance levels. That's the whole reason pre-season games exist (apart from the more recent commercialisation).

At this point both ole in and ole out should accept that this season will be a rollercoaster. Any knee jerk reactions on either side will be shown to be ridiculous soon after. Let’s judge the season at least at the mid point. Going by the state of this thread, some ole out posters are not “judge a book by its cover“ sorts, but rather by the spine that you can see in the shelf.

Thry obviously were unfit. Look at KDB in the second half, he was straight trash. They had no offensive quality whatsoeve.

Ha ha

The op looks gold now.

Guess we should desist from snap judgements this season. It'll be a real roller coaster

Like many others, I do have some skepticism towards Ole and the rest of our coaching team, but the idea that fatigue is a 'bad excuse' is honestly plain ridiculous.
Athletes at the highest level, regardless of the sport, have strict fitness, dietary and recovery regimes. In top level sports where the margins are so fine, 3-4 weeks of recovery/preparation missed vs your competition is an absolute gamechanger.
We will of course get up go speed as the season goes on, but I think there's also a real possibility that the accumulated fatigue comes back to bite us towards the back end of the season as well.

City and Chelsea have been severely affected with injuries to important first team players. We have been lucky in that regard, along with Liverpol and Spurs. It is important to take advantage, as both these teams will be considerably better in one/two months' time.

Bayern lost 4-1 and it could have been 8 too. Who knew fitness and being even 10% off the pace actually mattered to performance levels at elite sport?
How does one explain Bayern's result last weekend then??

You've just jinxed Spurs. Son is out with a hamstring.

They scrapped by that result and won that game in the 104th minute. Not to mention they played against another team who similarly had a long season.

Aggregate league stats for the 16 teams involved in the final 8 of CL and EL last season:

33 games played - 13 wins, 10 draws, 10 losses - 49/99 points.

All teams have played league games so far except Barcelona (plays later tonight).
All teams that have played more than one game have dropped points so far.

Absolutely horrific by all teams involved, how could they start this poorly... what could be the reason...

Thanks for sharing, interesting stats. I am trying to give Ole and the squad a long leash, but it ain't easy. Pogba to me looks disinterested which is unacceptable.

He’s literally just recovered from coronavirus, jeez.

Mistakes and sloppiness are signs of a lack of fitness as well. Your mental stamina suffers just as much as physical tiredness.

Some of the Teams who were in Europe.

United - won 1 lost 1 n looked awful.
City - same. Also conceded 5 at home.
Wolves - lost 2 including 4 nil drubbing today.
PSG - lost opening two games in Ligue 1
Bayern - won 1 lost 1

There's a pattern emerging and shock horror reactionary people on here calling for manager's head gone into hiding.
