he's barely touched the ball in this match...yes he scored and a fine finish but damn he seems a bit lazy to get involved

This potential signing scares me. We have too many Gakpos or variations of him already. I would stay away. His stats are great but we need a no9 like traditional no 9 to really complete this team. Not anymore hybrids.

This. He is ok but we are perfectly covered on both wings. Also Bruno is undisputed on no10 and basically never injured.
Give me natural bloody no9.

Scored a cracking goal then went back to being more like Cackpo again for the next 70 minutes before getting subbed.

Enner Valencia has generally looked sharper than him over the match as well as being an actual proper no. 9.

I'm still far from convinced he should be leading the line at Utd. Seems another 'squad option if not hugely expensive' type.

We might have many player in the same position he plays at for his club. But we dont have many players with that type of strike of the ball.

Not sure if he is good enough, but I really miss having a player with that quality.

We really don't need another forward who doesn't have a good game except if he's on the scoresheet.

The iranian #9, Taremi, showed more as a true 9 than Gakpo has....not saying we should sign Taremi just that i mean really waste of money

Without a doubt, I would have been a lot more comfortable if he was like a 35 MEUR signing like first reported.

I think it’s hard to evaluate his potential. He is very smart and composed, I’ve seen him at least 6-7 times this year. Doesn’t matter if he is dominating the play, getting erased (like the first game against Arsenal) or somewhere in between, when he gets the ball he makes the right decisions. Finds openings. His runs in behind are also really well timed and smart. That is what gets him most goals for sure.

His top speed is perfectly OK. But to really have potential to like become a very good player for a top 4-6 club in the world, he certainly need to take his physics up both one and two steps. Tall lanky types like him usually can do that. He doesn’t look to be totally ripped.

His biggest weakness is that he is named Cody, but not with a Brazilian flag next to his name. Or perhaps Gancho. If he were, the Caf would be creaming themselves at the prospect of getting him, even for a 100 million.
I think people have outlined their issues with his potential signing fairly well without you having to resort to a Sam Allardyce level cliché about having an exotic name. We're looking for a 9 and Gakpo has no serious track record even playing in that position never mind doing so at a higher level.

Think most people agree he's clearly a very good player but he also excels in a position that we are already completely stacked. Would only make sense if we were to sell Rashford and there might actually be some merit in that while his stock is high. Also, his fee and the opportunity cost of paying that fee (in terms of likely missing out on other transfer targets) is just too high for an uncertainty.

Got a bit of a habit of scoring and creating goals this Gakpo wonder if anyone has mentioned him before about being quite good?

Probably not heh.

haha why on earth didnt hé bring Luuk though
And did bring Weghorst and Janssen. None of them are the strikers that the Netherlands should be able to rely on from kick-off anyway though.
Never thought I would see Oss on the caf.

So how do you know it? Although it's not too weird to find it here, Van Nistelrooij is from Geffen, a small next-door town. But then I'm probably the only one how cares about that. :D

I didn't watch the full match but his pressing was worse than Ronaldo's from the bits I saw. Maybe it was Van Gaal's tactics but he was definitely strolling around ball watching while the Ecuadorean defence were in posession.

A true brabander knows about Oss and their reputation!

Messentrekkers unite!

Anyway, that Gakpo eh - well, at least the goal was nice. Maybe you get to enjoy him until the end of the season if this is all he gets to show at the WC!

Hope so EINDHOVENAAR!

A fit Martial is far better suited to us than Gakpo. I can't claim to have watched him extensively, however, nothing is changing the view that others have presented: He's a versatile forward best suited coming onto the play.

His holdup play isn't great nor is his pressing or physicality. He's a finisher for sure but that's not enough to be #9 at United. I don't see Gakpo as the forward the rest of the team plays off.

A fit Martial is a unicorn

Exactly, we need a striker of his type. Someone opposition defenders will hate playing against and will cause havoc in the box, on and off then all. This will also give Rashford and Antony space. The way Terimi played today and held the ball up creating space for the two wide players and no 10.

A very close friend is from there. Obviously he is a PSV fan!

Would have him in Jan but his price has probably doubled and I don't think he's the answer to our problems. If signing him means we can't go after a striker in the summer then I'd rather we look for cheaper alternatives.

Almost certainly. Sancho had 40 g&a from 44 games in the 19/20 season and 36 g&a from 38 games in the next one. And those were in the Bundesliga and the UCL, not the Eredivisie and the UEL. And yet Sancho struggles to make half the impact Rashford makes when both played at their preferred position on the left wing.

But according to some we should sign the shining star of the Eredivisie without any critical thinking about what's his best position or whether he would be any better than our current options there.
Some on here just want to buy a player for the sake of it.

In the admittedly few PSV games I watched him in, I got the same vibe.

A thing that does worry me with Gakpo is his desire or intensity. There was a shot in yesterdays match where Ecuadorians were high fiving each other after winning a throw in (GET IN!!!!) and Gakpo strolled through the frame looking depressed and as if we were 5-0 down. Show some fecking fire.
