Community Shield 2020 - Arsenal vs Liverpool - Saturday(29th August)

Very good game for AMN, hopefully we can keep him and can sell somebody else to raise funds.

All these posts mocking the "celebrations".

Bloody hell, you're allowed to look a little happy at winning at Wembley. Let's not be so pathetically bitter.

The English community shield doesn't seem to bring as much interest to Liverpool players and supporters as the European and World community shields did (Super cup and World club cup)

Dry up, Moyes won this friendly.

It is a title and not a friendly. 8th biggest title you can win in England, but still a title.
Moyes will go down in history as community shield champion for us and that might be his biggest title ever.

Footbomb sounds like a wicked sport, tbf.

The timer keeps going when the bombs goes out of play, too. So, those bombboys need to watch out, too.

I like your thinking! Also, players should probably wear collars too which are linked to the bomb and if the bomb blast doesn't catch anyone, it selects a random player to go.

If I ever made a win at Wembley, I would go absolutely crazy and lose myself in the moment. Probably start trying to hump a corner flag or do laps of the classic Ravanelli celebration around the pitch. Let people have their fun.

I know they'll play it down now, but I also know how many would've given it "another trophy in the cabinet" all over social media

Oh the Liverpool lot would have been as classless and horrific as always.

You could imagine the t shirts with the league, euro cup, world club cup blah blah on.

It's a friendly, anyone that counts the community shield is a dope or Jose.

Supercups are just one game, but still cups. You can personally not care about it much, but it is still a title.
Players will remember these wins too.

Nobody counts this unless you win it. Glad Minamino is off the mark.

Alisson still hasn’t saved a penalty for us.

The scousers didn’t win it so it won’t transform into a major trophy. :wenger:

I arrived in my brother in laws just as the penalties started. All Liverpool fans so I take credit for Arsenal winning.

The legend that is David Moyes wins this trophy, mockery but you check the socials and it’s ‘2 trophies in 28 days’ for Arsenal

Its a football match like any other. Klopp and Arteta put their best wits against each other and Klopp came up short. Wouldn't say its a trophy, but at least shows that Arteta has got kloppos number.

It’s probably a worthy discussion for a thread in its own right, but is it really that big of a deal if a keeper isn’t good at penalties? I thought the same when De Gea was saving us week in week out but still wasn’t good at penalties. If a keeper is superb at keeping in general play, for me it’s not an issue if they’re not good at penalties. If they happen to be then that’s great, but it’s not something that should be held against them.

Generally speaking penalties are a fairly uncommon part of the game, and as an actual action, a penalty kick is so in favor of the attacker that when one is saved I consider it more of a failure on the part of the penalty taker rather than exceptional work by the keeper.

It’s sad where we are at as a club that fans are now defending the Community Shield to say it is a trophy. SAF treated it as the final friendly of the season before the real games began. He also treated the LC as a micky mouse cup, and so many of our fans now pretend like it is a big trophy.

If it is not the CL, PL, FA Cup and to an extent the EL, then it is a fairly irrelevant trophy. The LC is ok when there is nothing else to win but it’s nothing to write home about.

The Community Shield is just tradition and is a friendly. Maybe we should start counting winning the Asian Cup in pre season as part of the clubs trophy haul.

Everyone tries to win each and every game so don't say this was a friendly.
A trophy is a trophy is a trophy.
I'm ALWAYS so very very happy when the chickens * lose, so rejoice as it's a nicer evening now!!

”lets play the kids”

..starts with Mane, Salah, Firmino

Can a trophy not be a trophy?

It is a defense strategy for not being happy with the outcome. Say it is not important or that it is corrupted somehow.
Another one is to claim that the opponents are shit so it matters less. The league being poor etc.

Always found this "hardcore elitist fan" view very weird. If it's not the Champions League i don't care, we're better than that ! Just chill, is it as good a trophy ? Of course not.
What does it matter to you if players enjoy lifting around a little silver platter for 10 minutes ? Does that make them soft and unfit to wear the shirt ?
Had you won it do you want Pogba to launch a massive gob on it when he passes in front of it ?

it’s more fun to be a winner than a loser I tell you that much. Enjoying the cup win.

I do think Arteta is making Arsenal harder to beat tbf. Especially in the big games. I think he’ll have to work miracles to get you back into the top four this season though. Your resources are limited and you’re an Aubameyang injury away from a goal scoring crisis.

It’ll be interesting to see how the game at Anfield goes in a few weeks.

In fairness, things have changed a bit since SAF's time (even though it was relatively recent). All competitions these days are bigger because the heightened media focus provides an easier way to milk any and all achievements. It's partly the reason why the Club World Cup has gone from a complete novelty to somewhat important.

Though the Community Shield is definitely a glorified friendly. I don't disagree.
