It's going to get worse before it gets better
Unfortunate this appears to be the case. I’m an eternal optimist, but you just can’t ignore the data here. Every piece of extrapolation points to a prolonged period of bad newsIt's going to get worse before it gets better
This seems unnecessary to me. I agree that we can't just assume that the league would finish as it is now but surely there is a sensible way of predicting what would've happened? The season will now have to be declared null and void as per the Premier League rules?
Very sensible move IMO. Public safety is paramount, and hopefully we can all start again from scratch in August.
Given what happened in Valencia tonight - fans ignoring behind closed doors and congregating outside the stadium, it's clear the best way to protect human life is to stop all football. There's no safe alternative.City Arsenal is being postponed because Arsenal played Olympiakos recently.
Not sure if all other matches will be.
Arsenal have since played Portsmouth (FA Cup) and West Ham (PL)...City Arsenal is being postponed because Arsenal played Olympiakos recently.
Not sure if all other matches will be.
No we have clear rules on this. Once 60 consecutive days have passed without a resumption, the season is declared null and void by default. There will be no carrying on at a later date. That would also be impossible to fit into the football calendar anyway.Maybe they'll suspend it and carry on where we left off in the future?
There is no sensible way of predicting football matches. Watford v Liverpool is proof of that. The PL, Europa League, Champions League, Euros are fecked this season. Much as I'd hate it, they'll just have to bin off sports for the next few months. The Championship are fecked now that Forest are exiled. This seems unnecessary to me. I agree that we can't just assume that the league would finish as it is now but surely there is a sensible way of predicting what would've happened?
Which team has the most league wins in their history? That seems the best way.
I don't agree. I really think just giving the league title to whichever team has the most league titles to date is the most fair. There is no sensible way of predicting football matches. Watford v Liverpool is proof of that. The PL, Europa League, Champions League, Euros are fecked this season. Much as I'd hate it, they'll just have to bin off sports for the next few months. The Premier League rules would need to be changed mid-season to allow for that. I imagine it would require a big majority of PL clubs, probably unanimity, and there will surely be enough clubs with a vested interest to block it.The tweet about the major federations asking to push back the Euro's to 2021 so they can finish their domestic campaigns in the summer doesn't sound like a bad idea? Couldn't they suspend all leagues now up until late May-June review the situation then so they can resume the fixtures?
If you're gonna insist on seriousness. They may well call off the rest of the season. Liverpool would be declared champions if that happens.I can’t tell who is being serious and who is still taking the piss anymore.
Theyre not cancelling the season. Liverpool are like 2 results away from winning anyway.
I think most of us can live with another season in the Europa League for the greater good. And, of course, by greater good I mean protecting human life. So, if it were to be declared null and void I presume the clubs that played in this year's champions league would play in the next one ....Urgh, which means Europa league again next season ....on the plus side, that's just the cruellest fate imaginable for Liverpool
Well Arsenal have played Everton and West Ham since the first Olympiakos match plus Portsmouth from outside the PL. Everton have since played us and Chelsea. We've played City and Derby since playing Everton.City Arsenal is being postponed because Arsenal played Olympiakos recently.
Not sure if all other matches will be.
Not according to Premier League rules they wont.If you're gonna insist on seriousness. They may well call off the rest of the season. Liverpool would be declared champions if that happens.
I doubt that's terribly importantNot according to Premier League rules they wont.
You cant have teams just finishing where they are now because wouldn't all clubs have to agree? There's no chance of that happening surely with relegation/European places at stake.
It will all be decided in court, I assume, yeah. The fairest thing for everybody involved would be a void season if deemed necessary. There would be legal ramifications from just sending teams down etc. wouldn't there? Clubs would argue against it.
Exactly. It's a minefield. Now this has happened, there's a domino effect which can quickly spiral out of control. The season cannot continue.Well Arsenal have played Everton and West Ham since the first Olympiakos match plus Portsmouth from outside the PL. Everton have since played us and Chelsea. We've played City and Derby.
If they fear that Arsenal or their fans could be spreading it then all that lot including us could be too in the next matches if they go ahead.
The Premier League rules on what happens after a 60 day suspension are clear. I believe it would require unanimity to change the rules mid-season, and that isn't going to possible for the reasons you suggest. Too much money at stake. You cant have teams just finishing where they are now because wouldn't all clubs have to agree? There's no chance of that happening surely with relegation/European places at stake.
It's really unfortunate, but the good news is next year is gonna be their year.Imagine waiting 30 years for a Prem League title and 2 games before you do it.....the competetion is stopped until further notice
Nah, they wouldn't mate.If you're gonna insist on seriousness. They may well call off the rest of the season. Liverpool would be declared champions if that happens.
Even if they mathematically have it wrapped up before the season is curtailed, they still won't be recorded as champions as the rules appear to be written. The rules say the season is declared null and void, effectively the season never happened. In that event, you cannot possibly have a league champion.Nah, they wouldn't mate.
It'd just be voided - with the teams restarting the season afresh when safe. Same with all the Leagues below.
Liverpool will surely get a round applause when the new season starts from oppo fans as a show of Sportsmanship, then just move on.
Obviously to them they'll always claim that they won it - but actually, they won't have, not unless they do so mathematically before its inevitable cancellation occurs.
Can we strike off City's League cup win then? seems ridiculous they'll be the only ones with silverware in a null and void season.Even if they mathematically have it wrapped up before the season is curtailed, they still won't be recorded as champions as the rules appear to be written. The rules say the season is declared null and void, effectively the season never happened. In that event, you cannot possibly have a league champion.
Yeah same as if a team would already be mathematically relegated. They would still be in the same division next season. No official results.Even if they mathematically have it wrapped up before the season is curtailed, they still won't be recorded as champions as the rules appear to be written. The rules say the season is declared null and void, effectively the season never happened. In that event, you cannot possibly have a league champion.
Unfortunately not, because that competition has been completed as per the playing rules. Can we strike off City's League cup win then? seems ridiculous they'll be the only ones with silverware in a null and void season.
Whatever makes you feel better Cheech. Can we strike off City's League cup win then? seems ridiculous they'll be the only ones with silverware in a null and void season.
