That’s the usual standard. In fairness he’s absolutely shattered, but we have seen those moments in the first 10 minutes of a game too.

That run in 88th minute sums all his flaws. First he delays pass and then instead low pass he tries cross and he does it badly.

All heart minus real quality doesn't win you anything I'm afraid. I feel our squad has a lot of heart overall. We need more quality
Like Di Maria, Depay, Lukaku, Martial and Pogba? That’s the reason we are where we are. Few more players who give everything like Cavani Fred and James are exactly what’s needed to finally fully shake things up. We turned into the spice boys post Fergie whether that’s what people want to hear or not. People repeatedly standing up for Rashford and Martial walking around the pitch doing nothing and then James misses a cross after absolutely working his ass off all game

“typical”

The issue with that passage of play is he didn’t lift his head. The pass was on for about 3 seconds previous and he delayed too much. That’s not down to being physically tired, the overhit cross however probably was.

Without derailing the thread, do you actually think Ole would let Rashford get away with not chasing if he wanted him to, and if he does, isn’t that more on Ole?

Strong at heart, needs more development, or a solid material for player will stagnate or even be wasted.

Hopefully he'll play a lot and get that priceless experience.

The guy would be class for mid-table teams and BuLi teams where the opposition leaves a lot of space behind

I think it’s on both of them and I’m Ole in and I know Rashford can still go up a level or two but currently I feel like are both equally to blame for how the season panned out. Ole has serious Rashford blinkers. I still don’t know why he didn’t fire James on early in the final at some point when it was clear we were creating nothing anyway. I hate the way our fans automatically dismiss hard working players as not good enough. They provide the pressure needed for the cream to rise.

Surely some blame should lie with the staff and Ole. Thats their job through training to work on the flaws and make him a better player. They can work with him on his delivery, decision making etc. Very easy just to blame him.

Leeds would offer 25M tomorrow if he’s made available. Bielsa loves him.
He would actually be really good for them too. The question I guess is if he's happy being a rotation option here vs starter at a mid table club. I think Lingard's performances at WHU will turn a few heads.

It was a fine time to make the pass. If he makes it then the keeper has to readjust and the Welsh player in the middle has an easier chance.

Criminal use of his squad players last season. Rashford can go 4-5 games without doing anything and won’t be touched. James was on a roll on the right for a little while. Puts Pogba on the left and Rashford on the right. Pogba goes on a roll on the left. Pulls Rashford back to the left and puts Greenwood in and Pogba back in the middle. It’s mostly to keep an out of form Rashford in the team by any means necessary from what I can see. I’d much much rather have had James’s effort and supposed lack of ability than Rashfords potential world class ability for all those games he let pass him by without contributing anything at all. James is all heart and effort. I like it a lot. He’ll tackle press and track all the way back. He’ll cross. Lay it off. Go inside and out. Run the channels. Play either side. All the stuff a winger is actually meant to do.

See so often where he will run into a great position, a player will be in yards of space for him to slot it to and he will ignore it

time and time and time again

He would be absolutely World Class if he had a footballing brain

Having a very good tournament. Good on him.

Will be interesting to see how his career pans out at United. Don’t think he’ll ever hit the heights but is a great rotation option.

James always tend to perform well for the national team. The Wales setup suits him well. Been really impressive in these 2 games.

Have made this point for many months on here but people either don't bother watching or just ignore it in the large part.

Fair enough. I disagree, as he could have played it on the floor if he’d done it earlier. As soon as you lift the ball there becomes a bigger margin of error.

He has a different mentality playing for Wales, that is evident. Even more evident though is that his decision making and final ball is consistently awful. The late game moment people mention is pure evidence of that. Yes he is tired, running at pace and its a pressure game.....but that isnt a difficult pass, its a very simple one. He simply is not good enough to start for us, he isnt even good enough long term to be a squad player for us

Is he? One of the issues we've had in big moments (see the final vs. Villareal) is that we lack quality on the bench. I'd say the majority of fans would rather see the 18 year old Amad come on if we're chasing a goal over Dan James, which says it all.

I fully agree and disagree at the same time. You need both. Of course in days gone by the man management of Ferguson had players working there socks off with the right mentality. But look through the likes of Keane, Beckham, Giggs as obvious examples. The had a brilliant attitude, but they all had quality to to play. That is what we should expect of all of our players.

First and foremost is the right mentality and attitude of course to cope playing for a big club.....but sorry if you dont have the quality to back that up, you still dont deserve to wear the shirt. I am not saying every player shouldbe world class of course, but a headless chicken is a headless chicken no mattere how fast and how long it flaps its feathers

It’s funny the way you so often hear excuses for other United players about being played out of position yet you almost never hear the same about James. He looks absolutely miles more comfortable on the left wing.
Absolutely!
I wonder if he has confidence issues? So often he does great work getting into useful positions and then fluffs his lines when he need to pass or shoot or do anything meaningful. He’s clearly not as rubbish as people like to make out here, but there’s something holding him back.

He could have played it earlier, but it wasn’t a bad idea waiting. He slipped when he did make the pass I don’t think he meant to send it in the air.

Despite his flaws, he is always dangerous and must be a nightmare for full backs.

As everyone is saying, totally different player on the left. Allows him to be far more impactful, and he's had several great crosses with both feet this tournament.

Makes me wonder why we can't teach him the Valencia move. Surely almost no full back is faster than him for one stride, which was all Tony needed.

James is great fecking squad player and calling for him to get sold is absolutely insane.
It's amazing to have a committed player with electrifying pace, who always has a goal or assist in him as an option. If his end product was flawless, he wouldn't have costed us 20 mil, but 120.
You can't have a full 25 man squad of world class flawless players. You can't upgrade what James has to offer for 20 million, no chance. He is a bargain and he has a place in our team.
