Even if it's reducecd by 200k, he'll still be on 175k p/w which is more than any keeper in the PL. He should be on no more than 100k p/w if that but no way he'd drop by nearly 300k.
Insane to think about, isn't it. Assuming we get a new first choice keeper next season, DDG dropping to 100k would still make him the highest paid backup in the league.

What's the point? Just release him.

I’ve kind of always been resigned to the fact that they’ve already agreed an extension a while ago and they’re just awaiting the perfect (or most opportune) time to announce it. I don’t trust the club to handle this situation correctly and kick him to the curb

Is this tweet a joke? Anybody on the planet knows we will get a new GK. But maybe it is correct that we won’t spend big to get a new GK.
Agree with this , 20-30 m might not be considered significant in terms of player acquisition but it should be more than enough to bring in Decent Goalkeeping prospect .

Judging by his words yesterday he wants to seems like he isn't being allowed to. This has our board written all over it. Less than a week ago he refused to confirm if De Gea was extended if he would be the #1 next season. ETH definitely wants to bring another GK but seems like the board wants to keep De Gea because he's supposedly a club legend, which is only because he's the longest tenured player now.
The club are definitely not in tune with what the fans, media or a lot of ex players are saying if that's the case. DDG has a lot of goodwill because of his 500+ appearances but even a lot of his most ardent fans are starting to get annoyed with this situation. Shades of Rooney's last few years here.

I can't imagine many United fans will be happy to hear that he's signed a new deal.

I really don’t understand why your club has such a hard time improving. You keep doing the same and try absolutely nothing new and yet you still don’t manage to find success.
Ownership and therefore the upper management structure to blame, isn’t it the most reasonable explanation?

Keep dog shit like De Gea around and we wonder why we're a million miles behind City.

He needs to feck off, but it'd be typical of this club to announce his extension after another shocking performance.

Sick of the sight of him.

Fine to bring in someone who could replace DDG in 2 years but we can't score. We need at least 2 strikers, 2-3 midfielders and 1-2 center backs. Unless we're blaming DDG for him not scoring more, there are more pressing issues. 2-1 flattered us. We're miles from being anywhere near as good as Citeh.

We don't need any more center backs. Fix the GK issue and the CB issue fixes itself.

One of the reasons we don’t score a lot is the play from back is so bad.

Citys second choice goalkeeper did better on the ball yesterday than DDG. Also, i'm amazed that you can be the undisputed number one at United, and not even make it as third choice for your national team.

Get him as far away from United as possible. Or at least kick him to the bench. He makes everyone around him feel uneasy.

2 years more of Calamity Dave in the goal would not only be the end of Ten Hag might even see off his successor too.

Though it may seem like pisstake to you but the worst part is it's closer to reality than some would like to admit.

"club legend" / "old guard" status seems like a lame excuse not to spend money on a GK.
No chance in hell ETH wants DDG to be his only GK option next season. But he needs to play the game in which the board sets the rules.
I fully expect a lot of empty words Iif there is contract signed indeed. Although to be honest I'd assume this would've been done when he received a golden glove. The fact it isn't realeased/signed makes me optimistic that maybe we will release him indeed. Maybe this isn't the best solution, he would've probably made a good no2 but I don't like that guy so wouldn't be against it.

This guy is seemingly ten hag's McFred. It's obvious to almost the whole world that he needs to get replaced but somehow he survives because there are other, more important, priorities or whatever.

Obviously. I'm just joking around. I just don't get the reasoning the people in charge seem to have. You keep extending contracts of players underperforming. If it was up to your management, Pogba would most likely still be at the club. His greed was the only thing saving you. If you actually extend DDG, the people in charge should just be honest and admit that they don't give a shit and have no ambition. Trying to extend with DDG, Jesus Christ. The man wouldn't even sit on the bench for some top clubs. :wenger:

Exactly. That’s the reason the fans have felt it enough is enough. Glazers have to go. They have kept sinking the ship gradually for so many years without learning anything (latest is Ronaldo) and somehow they think they can do a better job in the future!

its called Glazernomics. Cheaper to keep players at the club than overpay on new

Has to be sold or at least dropped for a continental keeper who has a better around game than De Gea which wouldn't be hard really. His game is not going to get better, this is as good as it gets with him and it is simply not good enough!!

And they don't even have some success. Relative to the money spent, the outcome is disastrous. And whenever your team shows glimpses of hope and it looks like there might be a new dawn, they pull shit like this with De Gea.
I mean I only read yesterday that Phil Jones is still under contract with you. Didn't even know about this. Genuinely thought that was a joke people on here were having.

Sanchez is second choice in Brighton now. Why don’t we get him? Probably just 20mils are enough.

Did fine yesterday. Long kicking is hard and seems to be people's main gripe. We are playing against a great pressing side with nobody able to win a header up front. Put neuer in net yesterday we still aren't creating tons from the long smashes up to rashford, whatever wierd fantasy people have about it

I feel like the club can't move forward from competing for 3rd and 4th and challenging City and the best teams until we get a new keeper. Ask any Ajax fan and they'll tell you the type of Total Football they was witnessing and purring under Ten Hag, and the rubbish football United and its fans are getting served up is chalk and cheese.

the one constant? David De Gea

The one constant through the last 10 largely unsuccessful years for United? David De Gea!

it's a pattern here, Ten Hag needs to be ruthless. He was with CR7 who is a much bigger legend for the club than De Gea is.

bizarre really. As a goalkeeper is literally one of the most important positions in the way Ten Hag wants to play.

Why would we want a keeper that Brighton deemed not good enough
Someone thinks him not good so you think him not good? That’s how you make a judgement? He is a huge upgrade on DDG. If we don’t have money on GK then why not to get Sanchez in?

He isn't a huge upgrade but I know the hysterics on the forum is today's thing. The whole ddg thing is overblown. People need a think to be angry at since Maguire is out of the team. If ddg leaves it'll just move onto another player who is 'clearly the problem'.

Sell Maguire , Henderson , release David De Gea , and buy a decent keeper we will be good defensively.
David De Gea is decent for most of the season but when he plays bad game , he plays very badly and most of these bad performances are in Knockout matches which cost us.
But not sure if we have many options to buy GK. We might rue not buying Yan Sommer.

Said this in April, he might win Golden glove and others but he will keep on costing us in important games likes Cup finals. He needs replacing.

While I agree that we need a better goalkeeper, we don't have to spend crazy money to buy a Paul Scholes between the sticks.

Should I remind you that City won the FA Cup with a 30-year-old goalkeeper, brought for free from Arminia Bielefeld?

The most crucial thing is to have a strong defensive partnership between our goalkeeper and centerbacks. Defending is a collective effort, more so than scoring a goal, meaning communication and understanding are very important. This is partly due to coaching and player personalities.

That's why De Gea looks calm when Varane and Martinez play together but nervous when playing with Lindelof-Maguire.

Ideally, as a senior player in our club, he should also give a calming and commanding presence in the penalty box.

However, after 12 years at Old Trafford, several POTY awards, and individual records, he is still not considered as our main choice for captaincy. That says a lot, not only about De Gea lack of leadership qualities among his teammates but also about his inability to read the game.

Renewing his contract will be the single worst decision we’ve made post-Ferguson. I include renewing Rooney and bringing in Sanchez in that.

He was a problem before we even signed Maguire

United are run by morons. And while the Glazers are still here, will continue to be run by morons.

Everything you've said is true. The people in charge above the manager aren't good enough at their jobs and insane

How would you guys on here rate the coaching De Gea received through the years? Did the coaches try to improve on his weaknesses or did they allow him to just do what he wants?

He was fairly young and coming into a new league and culture when Ferguson signed him. If i remember correctly, the main issue, at first, was his concentration. He would produce fantastic saves followed by howlers. Ferguson, being the great man-manager he was, always protected him from the criticism coming from people on the outside looking in (press, pundits, ex-players etc.), but, when he felt De Gea hadn't made the desired progress, he would give Lindegaard the occasional start, just to keep David on his toes. There was also talk about him lacking the skill to command his area and, purportedly, his coaches (Chris Woods and Eric Steele, i think) were working on that. But, back then, De Gea was one of the players around whom the new side would be built. Ferguson was always very protective of the players he believed would help the club move forward. How De Gea himself interpreted SAF's arm around his shoulder, we don't know. His concentration got better with time, but the rest of the weaknesses pertained. I guess it was OK back then, since an ageing defensive line and midfield saw us defending very deep and very narrow during our last successful campaign in 2012/13. We still conceded numerous goals from crosses and set-pieces, but Evra and Rafael's inability to defend high balls and our undercooked zonal-marking were being blamed more than De Gea. Plus, we were still winning stuff back then.

I think the next big chapter was LvG who brought Frans Hoek as his goalkeeper coach. The latter, having already spent a dozen years at Ajax and having trained Valdés and Reina at a young age, carried his own ideas along at Carrington and he enjoyed LvG's full support. And after he left United, he, more or less, admitted that he wasn't exactly loved by De Gea. One of the reasons was that he preferred his goalkeepers to train in isolation. Previously, the GKs at United were doing 80/90% of their training with the rest of the players. The logic behind it was to train the defence to act as a unit. Hoek believed that individual training should make up the bulk of the training sessions because that's the only way a goalkeeper can weed out his weaknesses. By repetition and by not relying on his centre-halves to do his job for him. From what i know, this is the way most goalkeepers train nowadays. I also believe that LvG's tenure was the time when De Gea showed actual progress in his game. He was a better sweeper-keeper, he was more bold in coming off his line and he had improved massively in tête-à-tête situations with an almost Neuer-like ability to hold his nerve and not going down until the very last moment. After one season, we had the incident with the broken fax-machine and the rumours that he wanted to go to Madrid.

Next stop, Mourinho. Jose decided to bring Emilio Álvarez as his goalkeeping coach. He was De Gea's mentor at Atlético. You can make of this what you will. Álvarez claimed that De Gea wanted to leave United and Mourinho wished to appease him and make him reconsider. All the progress under LvG evaporated, but he still gave us two good seasons. He was one of the highlights of our infamous second-place (81 points) season under Maureen, which remains our best tally in the post-Ferguson era. When Solskjaer was appointed, he brought in Richard Hartis (another United man, who had worked at the club under SAF and had also followed Solskajer to Molde) as the senior goalkeeping coach. Nevertheless, Emilio Álvarez initially retained his position among the staff. He left when De Gea decided to cut ties with Mendes.

I'm sure that it's part of the natural movement of the dive, to bounce and get ready to jump. But it's the timing of the little jump before he sets himself to dive that just seemed off. That's why he was too late to react. Maybe that's being hyper critical, but at the very top small margins of fractions of a second make a huge difference.

1.57 - just as the ball is stuck he's off the ground and still adjusting his position, not ready to dive, can't react by the time he's set again.

2.15 - he does the little bounce again just as Rodri gets the header, ends up rooted to the spot.

6.08 you can see the little bounce again just as Gundogan strikes the ball once again he's too late to react by the time he's hit the ground and set again.

I see what you mean by the bounce. Not only that it seems like he takes a step to the left then dives to the right. It's insane

I don't understand this view. What was fine about yesterday?
And where does the notion that people's main gripe is long kicking ?

At the very top at this level you need to keep possession. We aren't doing that with De Gea we need a new keeper
