Correctly predicted Portugal to win Euro 2016
Crap strikers. Serginho couldn't hit a barn door when it mattered.Still can't come to terms how 82's Brazil didn't win the tournament.

well, to be fair, Mexico weren't exactly a powerhouse in 1970It is, but to put in into context, they didn't give out World Cups to absolute nobodies like Qatar before

Qatar has nothing to do with AfricaThey won the Africa Cup of Nations. They have been grooming this team for quite some time.
Ah probably. You may have missed the player on the far side who seemed to be keeping him on.
I didn't find out they'd beaten City that day until about two hours later. Went running round the house giggling
I'm basing my knowledge on a few clips and the fact they didn't seem to have any stadiums to play in in 2010...I haven't watched a minute of their football, Ecuador is no top team and nothing would surprise me anymore with regards to corruption, so while it's indeed not a mind-blowing surprise, I didn't necessarily expect it.
SA and SK/Japan weren't either. But at least they were somewhere on the footballing landscapewell, to be fair, Mexico weren't exactly a powerhouse in 1970
Seems so, they won’t show us the crowd unless it’s a bunch of blokes jumping around so it’s hard to seeIs the stadium full? I can't watch at the moment.
I swear, Maguire and Donny would get goals against them...Sunday league standard this from the hosts......... an embarrassing start to an embarrassing tournament. Long may they conceded 5 a game.

Is this similar scenario to CL final this year where Madrid had goal ruled out v pool?I feel like we're watching different clips. The player who challenges for the header has a team mate behind him who's leg is offside (offside only if we assume it was the Ecuador player who got his head on the ball).
It's the team mate who is offside who the ball drops to after the header, he then heads it, initial header then crosses it on the volley.
This is correct but only applies if it did indeed come of an Ecuador head when he challenged the keeper, which is debatable.
It's obviously only offside if the it comes of an Ecuador head when he challenges the keeper.
If it does comes off an Ecuador head, the next player to get a touch on the ball is the Ecuador player who was offside at the time of the header.
I agree. I didn't believe it when I heard the statUSA

Not Qatar level of rubbish but still surprised not one of these lost. Might have expected 1 on average
There was 1 defender, but the ‘keeper was ahead, making it offside. Offsides always look strange when the goalie is ahead, but it was definitely off.I swear there were people behind the guy who headed it who was called offside, no?
The speed with which Football standards have improved is good to seeI saw Singapore play for 15 minutes not long ago - no idea how Qatar would beat them (of course they might not have to). they weren't great but had way about ball control and more composure than this lot. Bit like watching US "soccer" in the 1980s
Not sure how this was done in ancient times, but aren't the hosts also seeded in pot 1? So limiting the number of powerhouses they could get in their group. Then arrange the schedule to have them play the worst team firstUSA

yeah, most likely paid off fansSeems so, they won’t show us the crowd unless it’s a bunch of blokes jumping around so it’s hard to see
El Salvador in 82, I think it was, weren't this bad and lost 10-1 to Hungary! Are Qatar the worst team to ever play in the World Cup? I'd fancy 2018 Panama/Saudi to beat them. They are really bad.
Didn't think we'd get an Ole reference in this thread but here we are.Qatar would have taken points off us last season under ole.
All those sides had one or two good players and had a bit of composure. this lot look totally lostSA and SK/Japan weren't either. But at least they were somewhere on the footballing landscape
I expected them to make the second round and possibly the quarters regardless of who they faced from Group B.Are Ecuador actually good? It's impossible to tell from this game as Qatar are so shit.
