Embarrassingly empty for a host nation match - you'd think they even give out tickets for free

It is not empty - I thought so too, but it is just the people in white look like empty seats.

At that time they looked genuinely good, especially in counter, but they have regressed massively. And Japan in 2019 never looked convincing the entire tournament, still a surprising result but believable if you follow Asian football closely

But that 2019 cup is still nowhere near surprising compare to 2007, where Iraq won the whole thing
It's not even a one-off win against Japan though. They topped their group ahead of Saudi Arabia and then beat all of Korea, UAE and Japan to win (who are probably all the best Asian teams, maybe a toss up between UAE and Australia). Definitely a bizarre occurrence based on what they've shown at the World Cup.

It's Qatar best chance to score a goal in this world cup. Doubt they can do it against the Netherlands

Good to hear that. Godspeed.

Has anyone got a clip of this Klinsmann thing? It's almost hard to believe he's actually gone and said that.
Here's what I found (it's from the Daily Mail but I doubt they'd change his own quote". It actually sounds worse to me:

'It is not by coincidence, it is part of their culture, how they play. They worked the referee. They work the linesman and fourth official, they are constantly in their ear. There were a lot of incidents we didn't see,' said the former USA manager.

'This is their culture, they take you off your game.'

'It would have been different with a different referee. They have five people around the referee. This did not play into the hands of Wales.'

The Dutch might have nothing to play for if they win later.

South Africa are the only ones who didn't get past the group stage but they did still win a match
Realistically the best they can do is score a goal. Fifa can give a consolation award for that

Is there not just loads of people wearing all white? It just makes it look empty, like when all the city fans blend in with the blue seats at the Emptihad.

True, this match they look a bit better. The Ecuador game though, it's really really a poor showing

There's so much of that thinly veiled racism/culturalism from commentators in Europe but unfortunately also sometimes here in the forum too. Mostly Muslim countries but Latin Americans are fair game as well. It's very subtle, but it's there. Interestingly African countries are mostly spared from this kind of thing.
That's because racism is about skin colour not culture. :facetiousalert:

Pushed in the back in the box- not a penalty

Clear dive on the ball at right back - freekick to you.

Senegal have been very disappointing.

This is worse than their performance against the Netherlands despite the result.

Noppert plays for a small club and likely doesnt earn that much. He might be willing to let in a goal for a bucket of cash:lol:
To be fair, if he was that bothered about money, he'd be playing in the NBA.

Collapsing into the Senegal defender  Jesus christ, he gets a 90kg defender knocking him in the back and taking out his right leg for good measure. But if you look at the situation as him "collapsing into the defender" then we're never going to agree.

The only reason it seems like a silly thing to do is because the referee made an error in not awarding an obvious penalty (and what could've been a red card too because it's not an obvious attempt at playing the ball). Yes, he played for the foul, but he was in fact fouled and should have had a penalty for it.

Like I've said, he's carrying the ball. The laws don't say anything about what decisions he's allowed to take with the ball, so he's well within his rights to position his body between the ball and defender to force the defender into either tackling him or backing off. It's not a 50/50, and if the defender makes it back and tackles him from the side then fair play to the defender, but he doesn't. He goes steaming into him from behind and gets nowhere near the ball. Clear foul, absolutely no doubt about it.
It's just not a natural step you'd take in attempting to play the ball. It's not even a small step, but a lunge across the path of the Senegal defender, while the ball is moving away from the attacker. He has effectively stopped carrying the ball to make that move. He engineers a collision when he's not trying to play the ball. Now where I'd agree is that the defender is clumsy and also culpable in that collision and therefore gives the referee a decision to make. Lineker was probably right that it was grey enough that the VAR wasn't going to overrule it either way.

They've actually played a bit of football in this half. Feck them getting a point, though.

Wake up now, Senegal lads.
