I rather have upamecano and VDB instead of Sancho. Sancho can come next yearPossibly an indication we have moved on from Sancho? I know the positions have nothing to do with it but monetary wise.
Doubt this news is true but even if it is you’d assume the cost would be less than the 60m release clause he was available for 2 months ago. The VDB fee and this fee can be covered by the 8 outgoings we’re hoping to get meaning our net is the Sancho fee. We were always wanting to sign Sancho and 2/3 others.Possibly an indication we have moved on from Sancho? I know the positions have nothing to do with it but monetary wise.
Don't think Sancho was ever going to be our only signing. Our reluctance to meet Dortmund's valuation is likely tethered in us trying/wanting to complete other deals. Saying that to say that I don't think bagging VdB and the reported interest on Upamecano means we've moved on from Sancho. Likely still trying to arrange some sort of deal that allows us to complete the Sancho transfer as well as bolster the squad elsewhere. Sancho was widely reported as the manager's number one target. Don't think we'd move on without some sort of media briefPossibly an indication we have moved on from Sancho? I know the positions have nothing to do with it but monetary wise.
Not really, most of the things like VDB could mean Lingard, Mata, and Pereira are on their way out.Possibly an indication we have moved on from Sancho? I know the positions have nothing to do with it but monetary wise.
42 million euros? That sounds far too low.I believe his new contract has a release clause of €42m:
Let's just throw some numbers around:
Sales £26M (€29M)
- Smalling - £18M
- Rojo, - £3M
- Jones - £5M
Arguably if you sell those 3, save approximately £200,000p/w on the payroll, but offer Upamecano £80,000p/w for his first contract. the club would save £6.2M (€6.9M) on wages a year.
The club would be around ~€6M euros short but it doesn't seem as far off as we'd think. Upamecano signing could be pretty much have no net loss accounting wise (or so I believe).
Of course Sancho is the big target, but having Upamecano, VDB and Sancho would be a terrific window.
He did. It's a bit of a strange one. The new contract reduced his release clause but guarantees them a fee as the previous contract was ending next year. I think if a good enough offer comes, he will leave.Didn’t he just sign a new deal or something?
Perhaps it's higher, it was a google job, other places seem to say in the region of 60, depends if they see him as good value or not, he's 21 but having a french contingent of Pogba and Martial will certainly help.42 million euros? That sounds far too low.
The clause in his new contract is only active next summer, as far as I'm aware.Even if he just signed a new deal, im sure it has a release clause. If so, cant we just meet it and try to sort it out with him?
Would be a dream signing to be honest. The caliber of player we should be going for.
Its possible that contract was only signed to protect the player during UCL, only speculating here thoughNo chance this happens, he recently signed a big contract. Maybe next season or after.
Another thing people don`t realise is Utd never enter into bidding wars. All our top targets are usually players with either little or no competition. Maguire and AWB were only wanted by City, Bruno was a free run in January and VDB was also a free run after Madrid dropped out. If Upamecano is a GENUINE target it makes sense for us to try and pay a little more to buy him now than wait till he`s available for 42m and face multiple competitors. We did the same thing with Martial our plan was to buy him in 2016 but we anticipated a bidding war then and fast tracked his signing to 2015 for at the time a record fee for a teenagerThe clause in his new contract is only active next summer, as far as I'm aware.
Doesnt mean we couldn't strike a deal regardless, of course.
Good point. We rarely see a bidding war with United involved.Another thing people don`t realise is Utd never enter into bidding wars. Sancho is still the only one that truly elevates and improves our starting 11 (Dayot probably does the latter in fairness) - so I’m still in the camp of Sancho being a must.Donny, Upamecano and let's say Grealish would not be so bad of a summer, considering the circumstances. Even though it would hurt not getting Sancho.
Not if we pay more than that figureTweet

So it's a 'no-go' then?
Not necessarily, it just means we can’t sign him cheaper as the buyout clause doesn’t become active until next summer. We could still sign him now for a higher fee, how much we won’t know until we contact Leipzig.Tweet

So it's a 'no-go' then?
Yeah give them Rojo & Jones. With Upamecano, we can even offer them a cash + player deal, as we have more than enough CBs
Jan is just giving the facts, which Ogden already highlights in his own article. Basically a pointless tweet. If we wanted him now perhaps we can tempt RB for <42m EUR but I'd assume it has to be swift for RB Leipzig to plan without him. They don't need the cash I assume (relatively rich club owners?) so I still think this is remote.Tweet

So it's a 'no-go' then?
Exactly. Contact and clauses are meant to protect the player's value. If the club find our bid beneficial , there is no reason we cannot get him.Not if we pay more than that figure
Of course not, but give them cash plus Bailly or Smalling (or Tuanzebe). In this structure they may accept. Both Smalling and Bailly are good players (not great, but good), and some cash on topYeah give them Rojo & Jones.
Was the first to report our interest in Van De Beek in JanuaryLove this to be true, but Ogden hasn't had a story since he broke Ferguson retiring.
He was very good during Moyes too I think. He must have had a source in the dressing room from those days. Like you say, he’s had nothing since.Love this to be true, but Ogden hasn't had a story since he broke Ferguson retiring.
The clause kicks in next year. Don't know what Ogden is basing his information on. He tends to offer very little insight in general so I'll wait to see other credible sources.Tweet
