I refuse to believe this! LvG is not an idiot, surely? :nervous:

Neither do I hope is Cavani stupid enough to join us when we already have RvP and Rooney.

Didn't LVG have a meeting with Sir Alex today? I'm pretty sure Sir Alex would have told him to stop buying midfielders & defenders & just bring in strikers when we don't need them. Worked out alright for him.
"Listen Louie, dunnae be listening to the boys saying midfielders, they know nothin about football. They're all idiots. No doubt aboot tha. You bring in Cavani and it'll be alrigh, i can tell yoo tha"

I have said all along I think we might sign Cavani. Just because I think Woody is desperate to sign a big / expensive name and the likes of Vidal, Di Maria, etc look very difficult to achieve whilst PSG would probably be willing to sell Cavani in order to fund Di Maria for themselves (FFP)

Vidal shouldn't be hard to achieve, Agnelli has been telling anyone within earshot that even though they love Vidal a "50M bid would make them reconsider.." I cannot fathom why Vidal isnt the obvious target.
To buy Cavani would be lunacy.

I'm not saying that Vidal is not necessarily available for the right price just that if he was there would surely be stiff competition for him. With Cavani, at the sort of money being quoted, I don't think there would be.

I don't care who reports this, it isn't happening. I don't understand why the rumours persist, but looking at the reasons why this might and might not happen it just doesn't make any sense.

Won't happen because:

- Van Gaal is twice on record as saying our squad is imbalanced, with far too many attackers.
- Our first choice front two are two of the best around, and that's assuming we change our style in order to fit them both in
- He'd cost an absolute bomb. This isn't Van Persie, a luxury signing available for a cut price fee, we'd need to nearly double our transfer record.

Might happen because:

- Erm..he's a bit good? And even a lot on here aren't convinced. Whenever i've seen him play he's not looked anything special.

I guess I could see Hernandez leaving for 20 million and Cavani coming for 40ish, but it still makes no sense. If we have 40 million lying around it should be getting spent on a DM or CB.

So Cavani has been removed from all the press photos releasing the new away kit. Looks like is off... Surely not Woody?!!?!.

I could see him moving to fund Di Maria, even though I think thats a bad move for PSG as Ibrahimovic cant play forever and they wont get anywhere near what they paid for Cavani.

I doubt it'll be to us.

He's travelled to Asia, to join up with his teammates though.

I'm convinced we're not in for Cavani. LVG is smart, he knows if we're gonna pay big money for another forward it has to be a specialist wide-man, to allow us to play 4-3-3. It's just like the Gaitan rumours, imo, with the selling club/agent trying to drum up some interest. PSG overpaid for him, and now don't want him, so he's worth about £25 million. I guess the plan is to constantly link him to us for £50 million until eventually someone like Rafa or a Russian club comes along and spunks £35 mill on him.

Why the feck do we continue to be linked with him. LVG has already indicated that we have already 4 players in his best position. At PSG he is second choice to Ibra. At United he will be 3rd choice and have no CL football.

Either PSG or Cavani's agent are making shit up by this point.

OK. Nobody else has mentioned it, so I might as well.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with Cavani this week. I'd have thought the price being thrown around of about £50m actually means the stories are pure invention, but who knows.

The theory is, of course, if PSG get a good price for Cavani they can go after Di Maria.

Na I would well believe it, PSG are now in a mess with FFP so would want to bring in some Cash.. Cavani like you said would enable them to sign another star ala Di Maria and also didn't they around that amount to get him from Napoli so they would of course expect to recoup it.

I doubt either Arsenal/Liverpool will pay it, it would be quite the outlay when you factor in Cavani wages.. Probably instantly be the highest earner at either club although would be a excellent signing, Arsenal in Particular.

Obviously as a Utd fan I hope he stays, as it further enhances our chances of signing Di Maria..:D

I wonder how realistic those Arsenal and Liverpool links are. Even if both clubs are willing to break the bank to sign Cavani, I don't see them paying him anything close to what he's getting at PSG.

PSG must be kicking themselves for buying Luiz now, when that money could have been (much) better spent acquiring AdM  (not that he was available at that point in time).

They didn't really need Luiz, especially with Marquinhos being highly rated as well. In fact, they're a weird bunch tbh. They can (fairly) easily flog any one of Verratti, Lavezzi, Pastore, Lucas, Cavani or Marquinhos if they wanted to raise the cash for AdM, but they aren't.

Suppose (especially in Cavani's case) the asking prices & wages are astronomical.

My thoughts entirely and I want to keep it that way, whether we buy Di Maria or not. It'll be FFP's first great morality tale, so long as no one buys one of their players.

Won't be surprised if at some point if Real do not get Falcao they just do a swap for Cavani- Di Maria.

Right now they only have Benzema and he blows hot and cold.

I am starting to wonder if the much rumoured Cavani to United could be back ON with both Welbeck and Hernandez both possibly on the way out?

Let's face it, Woody is desperate for a marquee signing and he is struggling on all other fronts.

Would still be a ridiculous signing when we could use the enormous transfer fee it would take to get him on players we actually need.

Welbeck? you think we would sell Welbeck for 10m and that he would go to Hull? I dont believe it for a second.

But he can't land these players. PSG would probably sell Cavani so that they can fund Di Maria

But 1) what's the point of spunking £50m or more on a player who won't start over RvP or Rooney and 2) why would Cavani agree to move here when he's already unhappy playing second fiddle to Ibra?

Us signing Cavani would be like Arsenal signing a world class #10 when they have Özil or Chelsea buying a world class left winger when they have Hazard.

I hope Arsenal don't get him. they are already better than us and it's a shame that we let that happen with our "not good enough/no value/not available/not needed/everything is fine" transfer policy. in my opinion, if they sign Cavani, there would be no difference between them and City and Chelsea.

No reason for us to buy him. Yes, it would suck if he went to Arsenal, but he's not better than either Wayne or Robin so the transfer would just be a huge waste of money and there'd be no way to keep them all happy. They probably won't get him anyway. PSG are asking for more than he's worth. Can't see Arsenal overpaying for him. Most Arsenal fans really rate Giroud anyway.

Those Cavani rumours make a lot of sense now. We already stocked and I just dont see Arsenal pulling the trigger. Liverpool have the ambition but are they enough of a draw for him? Out of the clubs that can truly afford him, only Madrid appear likely. He doesnt have many options.
