it seems like we're linked with him every transfer window.

I would take him if he comes cheap but I don't know if PSG will sell.

LvG after every match: "we created our usual 2 half chances, we need to make sure we finish them."

LvG: *signs Cavani

Nah, I'm not buying it.

for cheap i'll take him just to expect him to chip in a few goals that can guarantee us a CL spot.

long term it should be either kane or lukaku for me. kane is england's most natural goalscorer since shearer and could end up top class with us. as for lukaku, at the moment he is no top continental striker but at 22 time is on his side. plus he would be some kind of a yorke signing for us, not exactly a batistuta or ronaldo of this world but someone who has done it in the PL and need a big stepping stone. didn't got his chance at chelsea but that was a few years ago. now he is much better and more expereinced.

A temporary bandage, but if it got us into the top four then do it.
Wouldn't mind that because by the time he would leave hopefully Martial would be well on his way to fulfilling his potential.

I've seen him have plenty of good games for PSG. Not sure how few games you watch but he's a good player and was outstanding at Napoli.

He's got a very good goals to games ratio, 125 in 173 (21 as sub). That amazes me as every time I've seen him he's been dogshit and hasn't scored.

I've watched him consistently for years. He's got a good goalscoring record but he's actually regressed as a player since he's been in France. Nowadays he shows poor behavior off the field and moans each (the rare times) he's benched.

Except that Cavani is nowhere as good as RVP when we signed him. He misses way too many chances.
It wasn't a comparison of players it was a comparison of circumstance.

That's the part that concerns me, he's still a good striker, even with a slight regression he's still arguably a top 10 striker.

30m pounds max, I'd take him, gets a bad rep on here but I have seen many a striker not have a great game but I have also seen him have plenty of good games especially for Napoli and Uruguay, he was very good in 2010 WC I recall playing in a deeper role than Forlan and Suarez. His career then took of at Napoli after that and he scored for fun. He has the talent and a proven goal scoring record and he is also built like a brick shit house and very good in the air, yes he will be 29 in a month but he doesn't have a bad injury record like RvP had and does look like a player that has a good 5 years left in him at the top.
I did read about Blanc saying he has been outspoken of late so there is obvious unrest due to being played out of position on the left wing, that aspect doesn't bother me though. The likes of Kane and Lukaku would cost twice as much at least and would also be extremely difficult players to sign especially Kane. However I doubt we'll sign any of the three even in the summer window and Wayne will continue to lead the line next season.

Cavani will be a massive upgrade on Rooney/RVP/Hernandez/Falcao waiting in vain for chances that never come or passes that never arrive......

even Rooney's current run has come from 2 penalties, a clearance from a defender, a rebound off a crossbar and one nice pass from Martial......thats 1 in 5 which came as a result of us creating a chance for Rooney

we do not create anywhere near enough chances and Cavani will join the long list of striker who will struggle, lose confidence and look shite

our most dangerous striker this year has been Martial whose pace/dribbling has created things for himself.....

I'd like to see us solve the creativity issue as well if we are going to bring in a striker though I suppose my dead Granny has movement marginally better than Rooney

feck yes, brilliant striker.

Actually annoys me that we didn't go for him or Falcao, years back. Although, I guess we did get RvP.

WE had 2 perfectly good forwards we allowed to leave.

Therefore we need a forward

a lot of games to play, and the squad needs to be added to, to cope

How do you play Martial, Rooney and Cavani? With no players being able to consistently fill that right wing, I'd play all three together.
3 attackers like when we had Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney. With Ronaldo playing more to the left and Rooney and Tevez just switching around and dropping deep from time to time.

Interesting read about the holy Trinity and how we played those 3.

I miss the holy Trinity :(
I hate seeing stuff like this, and can't bear to watch when they show the Premiership Years 07/08 on TV, or I see a glimpse of my season review from that season.

It reminds me how far we are from our last CL winning team. Vidic and Ferdinand at the back, Scholes in midfield and a World-Class youthful front 3 of Ronaldo, Rooney & Tevez. Ouch! Around that time was when we had Pique and Pogba waiting in the wings too. And Bale almost signed. It felt like we'd go on to dominate for years.

Most annoying though is that we have the finances to do it, but the decision making at the club has been awful. Martial looks a talent but we need to build on it big time. And I agree Cavani would be a bad move.

I think we are desperate enough to do it. Surely PSG can't ask for unreasonable money for a 29 year old. One think I will say is that he has immense work rate.
We already have plenty of attackers with immense work rate...who can't score a goal.
This guy would be risky as he has no previous EPL experience.

I just checked his stats though and he has scored 10 league goals in 16 appearances - which is not bad.
In comparison, our top scorer, Rooney, has scored 6 goals in 18 appearances. Which is embarrassing.

Robin wasn't exactly that clinical tbf. But for those 2 years for us & Arsenal, he consistently managed to score some outrageously good goals out of nothing. Those two years would be equivalent to most career highlights.

RVP was more than just a goalscorer (he still missed many chances for Utd like you said).

You can't fault his agent for putting the work in over the years.

IMO, if Rooney was playing in a crap league 1 for a side that is massively better than all the others; flanked by Di Maria and Lavezzi and with a midfield of Matuidi and Verratti behind him, he may very well get 10 goals in 16 appearances too.

For January, it would be an excellent signing. Not the best in the world, but not crap either. Better than what we have at the moment, so I'd certainly be happy if we signed him. Who else is available?

He probably won't, just because the Ligue 1 is physical and most defenders would out muscle him.
