F1 2021 Season

Oh feck off - I was a staunch remainer but there’s something wrong about listening to the national anthem with the Union Jack behind him whilst draped in another countries flag.

Would you or other posters cool with it be happy with someonefrom team gb getting a gold medal at the olympics draped in another countries flag? It’s fecking disrespectful.

I have no issue with him driving with the flag celebrating or even respecting the crowd, but not whilst the national anthem is playing.
It's only a flag mate. Calm down.

Yes this could be a point too. I really don’t know. I have heard that the Merc ICU has a higher performance drop through W&T than the Honda, though.

Sounds right doesn't it. Honda do reliability so well.

Hard to know exactly but remember the old icu if they were trying to nurse it through 10 GPS to get to the end of the season vs having one that only has to last 4 races will give you more opportunity to push boundries

With the truck suspension potentially giving them the downforce reduction now as well they can optimise the engine for a higher top speed knowing they will still have sufficient diwnforce for the corners

All probably small gains but a large gain in f1 is often several small gains packaged up together

Understood. Thanks.

Has anyone seen the onboard footage of Max when he ran Lewis off the track?

They seem to show replays of absolutely everything, at the most inconvenient times, yet we’re still to see it.

The directing seems to be getting worse and worse. I’ve lost count of the amount of times they’ve used the worst possible angle on a potential over take.

They get that onboard footage direct from the cars post race so we should see it soon enough and I have a feeling it won’t look good on Max.

F1 will hold onto it, and release it in the week to boost their social traffic. It's quite common now for them to hold back footage like this of key moments.

I cheers guys. I suspect they are holding it back because it won't reflect well on Max or the stewards decision.

Whatever the end result, this has been an interesting final season with these cars until next year's shake up.

My thoughts of Hamilton are well established on here but if he’s annoying idiots by acknowledging local fans by holding up their flag I may yet become a fan.

And in classic F1 style that next year shake up will probably put one team miles ahead again
Will be interesting for sure
Red bull and merc have probably kept more resource on this year's cars than others

That said Adrian newey is probably high on the people you would want designing the new aero package ... and low rake will for sure be the way to go next year which is theory might be more natural and translatable for merc

And of course somebody could do a brawn and come up with something like the double diffusers

I think with the new ground effect tunnels your gonna see some clever stuff and I think the cars won't be that much slower to start with.

Ill stop derailing this thread now. Just did it in the spirit of Max “derailing” Hamilton’s car

This thread is just 271 pages of nonstop derailing anyway, so very on brand I'd say :D

Interesting that every single ex driver on sky including Di Restaurant was convinced that Verstappen was at fault there and should have had a penalty

Apparently Hamiltons new engine has been designed to run for less mileage but with much more performance, which explains his crazy speed.

Not sure if it's true but it would make sense, since some of his overtakes this weekend have been ridiculous, it looked like he was overtaking cars from F2 or another lower series, such was the speed difference.

Max should still win the title, but his refusal to give up a corner is going to cost him one day, for now FIA have allowed him to get away with it, but he is going to try it and a driver won't back out and he will suffer more crashes like he had at Silverstone.

Bottas is such a weird driver, looked decent in the sprint race but once again bottled the start and made it easy for Max to overtake him like he has done many times this season.

Just caught up with the race. Was a cracker. Would love to see the onboard when max forced lewis and himself off track.

Brand new track next, Qatar. So who knows what to expect.

Watched the highlights back. Max was driving pretty wildly in the couple of laps before the overtake.

Lewis needs to win the next race, track has 1KM straight so hoping he can make use of his new found engine power. Bottas really needs to sort his shit out as well, if he can challenge Perez or even Max it wii take some of the pressure off Lewis.

What a great race that was.

I noticed Max and Horner couldn't bring themselves to compliment Lewis even after coming back from 20th and 10th to win the race. Lewis has complimented Max many times.

Maybe in other interviews they have but not in the main ones,

Cracking result for Hamilton in what was looking like a damage limitation mission at the start of the race. Amazing drive from him, and it really keeps the championship alive which is great for us viewers.

Max really should have had a penalty, you can't put your own car off the track to push someone else even wider. But then it isn't exactly unexpected from him either. With Mercedes really putting the pressure back onto RB I wouldn't be surprised to see even more reckless behavior from him, as it feels like both RB and Max feel entitled to the championship.

Absolutely brilliant drive from Hamilton. The whole weekend he has been superb. His top level is just untouchable. Red Bull, Verstappen, and Horner continue to show their true colours. Completely classless, and impossible to like. Verstappen is borderline reckless and his lack of a penalty is beyond baffling. The FIA continue to green light his behaviour, which we all have to hope isn’t going to end in serious injury one day. What a grotty little shop Red Bull run.

I just read that the 0.2mm breach on the rear wing was right in the corner on one side of the wing. If that’s true, I still understand that by the rules there should be a penalty. But it does make me question whether there should be some margin of error for checks post session. I am not an engineer but I would presume it’s plausible for damage to cause that kind of breach, especially if it’s just isolated to one tiny area of the wing?

Sooooo the main question is... Why doesn't Hamilton switch to a new engine every race?

There's no betting that the last 3 tracks will be as easy as Brazil to overtake on, it's a power hungry track. Qatar will only have one DRS zone and looks to be pretty dull outside of the main straight so it feels track position will be all important (see Bahrain's GP this year). So a 5 place penalty at every track isn't the right approach to do.

Motorsport Italy reported that AMG HPP have mapped an engine to perform to 2500km which covers the rest of the races, and tested this on Bottas during the penalties he took at Sochi, Italy and USA, so I would expect to see similar levels of performance from Hamilton in the next two GPs without the need the drop new ICE's in the car. Wolff confirmed in an interview on Saturday that they're not expecting to take anymore engine penalties. Given that other cars/drivers will be on engines that will be coming towards 5-7 races by Abu Dhabi, the need to put new ICE's probably isn't as important as it was in Brazil this weekend.
