To each his own. I think it's widely regarded as the best season. Personally I have it as the best or second best behind three.People talk about last two seasons being terrible, but my god, the 4th season was a bore. Basically they stretched out the Tyrion trial over a whole season. Perhaps non book readers feel differently, but for me it was the worst season, despite the writing getting worse in the last few seasons.
Pretty much. The first 3-4 seasons are some of the best TV produced in my opinion, but by season 7-8 I wouldn’t even call it good anymore. The character development, storytelling and acting all went south. No CGI budget makes up for that. It was just living on the name.It started great and gradually it became worse and worse slowly until the last season when the decline was rapid and watched it just cause I was like - I'll watch it till the end cause I watch the whole thing but its a disaster.
It became way worse when the show split from the books, Stannis' death after the battle of Winterfell, although Battle of the bastards was good, granted.Pretty much. Is season 4 where he gives the speech about being guilty?Whaaaa?
I dont know many people that feel this way.
That was a great season, and had so many really good episodes. ALso the trial... he was basically taken prisoner in ep2, so from ep3 to ep 6 (ep 6 he has his trial and then calls for trial by combat). Then 8 is the combat episode.
Ill be surprised if people here thought it was the worst season (most im sure would have it near the top)
The best comment, the seagulls are laughing (or crying) at that dialogue
This was the arguably the moment Game of Thrones died. How that line ended up in the show is beyond me.
Im trying to think what signs though? S5 had more signs given the way Dorne went.Is season 4 where he gives the speech about being guilty?
If so then I take back what I said. It’s better than I gave it credit for. But I think some of the negativity might be because it’s where they started running out of book materiel. So you’ll have really great scenes and dialogue one moment followed by signs of we were going to be in for in future seasons.
It's funny that you can tell where the individual story arcs are in the books based on when they start to get shite in the show. Season 4/start of Season 5 is when Martin's Dorne plot ends, end of Season 5 is the end of Jon's, Arya might be half way through Season 6, Dany end of Season 5.The best comment, the seagulls are laughing (or crying) at that dialogue

s4 had the purple wedding, tyrions trial, viper v mountain, watchers on the wall, and the finale.
Oberyn was fantastic as was Tywin, but I guess both of these characters going was a sign of the acting going down (though theres only so much you can do if you have to keep repeating I dont want it)
Yes.......... Yes I did............ A lotDid you laugh like Bronn did whenever he heard "Dickon Tarly"?
Unreal. So many incredible individual pieces over the series.
Yeah the concept of anyone can die was a great one but it meant that so many great characters were killed off and replaced by Ramsey Bolton and Jack Sparrow. I mean Euron Greyjoy is so easy to get those two mixed up.Decided to do a rewatch and something big sticks out to me:
The early seasons were full of side characters who were played by actors who commanded your attention with great screen presence
Yoren
Lord commander Mormont
Benjen Stark
Craster
Syrio Forel
Qhorin Halfhand
Maester Luwin
The blackfish
Great jon Umber
Mance Rayder
And then the bigger ones like Tywin, King Robert, Barristan Selmy, Drogo
Almost Every single one of these characters were killed off by season 5 and I think it really hurt the series losing so many of them
Jack Sparrow was horrific. Didn't overly mind the psychopath Ramsey, he was just given dumb stunts to do by shitty writing. But the character was fun enough.Yeah the concept of anyone can die was a great one but it meant that so many great characters were killed off and replaced by Ramsey Bolton and Jack Sparrow. I don't think he could carry a scene the way his father could. His father had nuance. the show was supposed to be shades of grey and they just changed it to characters being Good or down right evil.Jack Sparrow was horrific. What? the Tyrion trial was one of the best piece of tv ever shot.People talk about last two seasons being terrible, but my god, the 4th season was a bore. Same here. Loved it all the way. But there's just some things I can't deny with 8. Way to stupid and made zero sense. Not even in an insane way. Dany fecking won, why tf did she burn it afterwards? And Jon never really fought the NK after all that. And Bran a king after saying he can't be king of anything. Who has a better story? Literally everyone theirI loved it all the way to the last season.
Only was the Arya storyline with that faces stuff i thought was a bit boring.
I ment up untill season 8. Season 8 has issues. But 1-7 is great imo.Same here. Loved it all the way. But there's just some things I can't deny with 8. Way to stupid and made zero sense. Feck right off. Those 3 things really pissed me off.

Yeah I meant the same. The scene with the standoff with the Walkers in S7 was epic. Battle of the Bastards is up their with Lord of the Rings for battles. That scene when Jon is in the chaos and knocked yer man off the horse. Jesus what a moment.I ment up untill season 8. Season 8 has issues. But 1-7 is great imo.
Battle of the basterds is some of the best i ever seen in a tv show. Same when Dothraki attack Lannisters. Viper vs Mountain.... Its just so much i enjoyed.
For sure. Tons of great moments.Yeah I meant the same. The scene with the standoff with the Walkers in S7 was epic. Battle of the Bastards is up their with Lord of the Rings for battles. That scene when Jon is in the chaos and knocked yer man off the horse. Jesus what a moment.
- Don't fight the army of the dead in a straight fight, Jon says whilst planning the battle. Dothraki ride straight into the army of the dead and are wiped outSame here. Loved it all the way. That's what the last seasons missed. And this was seen a lot in the action especially the long night episode. Characters swarmed, and saved by the camera cutting away.- Don't fight the army of the dead in a straight fight, Jon says whilst planning the battle. Dothraki ride straight into the army of the dead and are wiped out
- turns out that even though all of the dothraki were wiped out there's still half of them left because....something.
- Jaime knowingly takes Brienne's honour but goes back to Cersei the next day because reasons. Also doesn't care about the people of Kings Landing anymore even though that's why he lost his own honour in the first place.
- Dany named all of her dothraki blood riders. That means they're bound to avenge her death. But none of them go after Jon. Not just the Dothraki, but even Grey Worm doesn't bother when he had no problem just executing random prisoners moments before.
- Dragons understand symbolism and would rather burn a big metal throne than the cnut who's just stabbed his mum.
- Everyone had a good laugh at Edmure Tully when he says he could be King, with the insults led by Sansa "I've literally done feck all" Stark. "Sit down, uncle Iolz". Erm, excuse me fecko but I don't think I will. I spent years in a dirty jail cell thanks to your brother's shite and I'm Lord of the Riverlands, therefore your equal, so maybe shut the feck up yeah? And, no, you can't just decide you're independent and still get a vote here, so fark off.
It's annoying because in earlier seasons when a character did something stupid it affected the how the story turned out (Rob thinks with his knob and fecks up an alliance, many people pay for it) but in Seasons 7 & 8 you had characters making stupid decisions because it made things easier for D&D to write. Actions result in consequences versus dipshit does thing because they need to get from A to B.
Ah yes I forgot all about the Dorne storyline. Definitely the turning point in writing quality for me.Just finished season 5 on my rewatch and yep the drop in quality of the writing is so noticeable. The dorne plot, Arya in bravos, the sons of the harpy, the high Sparrow are all snoozefests and filled with cringe and nonsense. Oh and Stannis the child burner.
Honestly I might have to put season 5 right beside season 8 as the worst season of the whole series.
It seemed that's where they were going with it too at one point. When on the journey north In season 4 Bran touches a weirwood tree and sees visions of dragons, white walkers and the mad king saying "burn them all".You've got a guy who can fly into the mind of anyone through time and can actively manipulate the past, fighting against creatures that need to be set on fire to truly kill, in a world with dragons that he can potentially warg into, in a kingdom that had a King who slowly turned mad and kept screaming "Burn them all" even as he was dying. But, nah, there's nothing you can do with that character...
Damn I completely forgot about the weirwood vision. This boils my piss even more now.It seemed that's where they were going with it too at one point. When on the journey north In season 4 Bran touches a weirwood tree and sees visions of dragons, white walkers and the mad king saying "burn them all".
They dropped the ball with basically every plot thread but Brans/3 eyed Raven might be the biggest waste of opportunity of all.
Jeez the high sparrow and his endless speeches. And some of Harpy, like a bunch of putties from power rangers.Just finished season 5 on my rewatch and yep the drop in quality of the writing is so noticeable. The dorne plot, Arya in bravos, the sons of the harpy, the high Sparrow are all snoozefests and filled with cringe and nonsense. Oh and Stannis the child burner.

Still irritates me to this day. It was hard to even know if he was actually dead or not. For a show that likes display characters getting brutally murdered it was a really weird one. This show is a 9/10 show until Season 5. I knew it was in trouble for the rest of the duration when Stannis out of nowhere burned Shireen at the stake with zero buildup (in a show that was themed around character conflicts) and then got dispatched off screen by Brianne of Tarth 2 seconds later.
And Dorne got fecked royally in this. There was no point in having anyone from Dorne in the show apart from Oberyn.
