Xander fecked up by playing too safe too early imo, he never looked like going for the kill, even if he did, I doubt he would have managed to beat Rory today, but it would have been closer.

Too many tentative putts, safe drives etc, where Rory was literally just taking dead aim at everything. Great from him.

Good week in store this week, even if it is a somewhat uninspiring course IMO. Hope Rory does it, could see it being a surprise winner from down the pack though

Hope the PGA toughens up Valhalla a bit or we could see the a winner at 12 to 15 under.

Xander already at -9, I think you're looking at more like -18/19
Embarrassing for a major to act like a regular tour stop. The PGA typically sets the tourney as the easiest of the four, but this is a bit too much.

Hopefully the moisture in the ground from the string of severe storms recently will evaporate today / tonight & the course will show a little backbone the rest of the tourney.

Xander will fall apart anyway. He always does, great man to have when things are comfortable.

Scheffler arrested this morning in what appears to be an overly aggressive policing action during traffic detours following a pedestrian struck near the golf course. He was not involved in the accident but was attempting to navigate around traffic, in his clearly marked golf vehicle and having been told that players, officials, etc., were permitted to move away from regular traffic to make it to the course on-time. Scheffler supposedly moved to a shoulder/other lane area to which a cop in rain gear - apparently not quite visible in dark if this was a cop or a security guard of sorts - and the cop yelled at him and literally attached himself to the side of the vehicle for a few years until Scheffler stopped. He was then yanked from the car and cuffed.

An ESPN reporter at the scene also cited overly aggressive policing towards himself, stating he was told he'd be arrested if he attempted to get towards where Scheffler was detained and this after he identified himself as a reporter.

More info and it's all over various news channels. Disregard the ESPN editing botch in the title.

Scottie Scheffler detained by police befpre start of PGA Championship

--The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler's car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla. The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car. When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs.--

Some cop is gonna have a real bad day over this  apparently the owner or president of Valhalla picked him up personally from the police station too

Hope he wears an orange jumper/polo today and shoots lights out.

We obviously weren't there to witness it but... It's Scottie Scheffler ffs, how bad or threatening could his transgression have been? Just pull him over and have a word.

Exactly, American cops are on absolute power trips all the time.

Fired in an eagle from the fairway on his first hole today if I heard correctly?

So maybe this indignation has fired his tournament

Scottie's 15 minutes of being semi interesting, despite being clearly the most talented golfer to come through in a long time.

They're taking the course apart, it's slightly disappointing. The USGA are going to hit back hard next month.

HELLO
Always find the mental side of playing order interesting in golf. Must be slightly demoralising coming out with people alongside you after a decent lead, regardless of being a round ahead.

This round from Scottie might be up there with the most impressive rounds ever.
