Sure we would have.
I know it's just conjecture but we won the league and reached the finals of the CL the next year without him. So why not? Far too much emphasis is put on his participation the year we won the double. Hargreaves was a very good player for us, but he wasn't the reason we won the PL or the CL. It was a team effort and we had one of the best squads that year and Hargreaves was a part of it.
There is simply no way you can equate that win with his transfer. No matter which way you look at, we've taken a massive loss with the Hargreaves transfer. It's not his fault, but that' just the way it turned out. It will be remembered as a disastrous transfer for us.
By your logic he's right, you're wrong. You're essentially trying to say he made no difference, which is silly.
We had a strong squad, he was part of it. So if he wasn't there the squad would be weaker and the fine margins we won the CL by might have been erroded. Take the CL for example, with Fletcher playing on the right instead of Hargreaves would we have won that match? Would Fletcher have burried the penalty?
Hargreaves was a crucial part of a squad that won the Champions League and if he and Fletcher had been available for the Barca match the season after we might have won it again.
