No point in us giving him such extensive rehab and then releasing him. I cab understand why a new contract wasn't signed so I'm sure if hes available for selection by next season that he will be still here then

Not good. I was hoping that it was just a standard hamstring injury due to being rusty but if he's seeing a specialist it must be a bit more serious.

Really feel for him, I always like Hargreaves, could've been a big player for us last year in particular, but its just looking more and more like his days are done.

How the hell is a hamstring injury career threatening?

The sad reality is Hargreaves was injury prone long before he got tendinitis. He's just one of those players who misses two months of football with an injury that others might return from in two weeks (see also Robin Van Persie, Louis Saha etc.). All very depressing really.

"We are all concerned," said the United chief.

"He has not played for over two years so we would have to be super-optimistic to think everything in the garden was rosy about him making comebacks.

"What we are trying to do is help the lad. That in itself is our biggest challenge. We want to help the lad try to get back to a level where he can still play football."

"This hamstring injury is a real kick in the teeth," said Ferguson.

"He was doing so well in training before the Wolves game. He was absolutely superb.

"There were no qualms whatsoever about putting him in, even though he had only trained for nine days.

"We were confident enough to play him but unfortunately it has proved to be a disappointment for us.

"If he had realised early enough and come off before he had done any more damage, it could have been three to four weeks. But is a complete tear."
Clears up why he had to see a specialist, obviously played for a couple of minutes with the hamstring and did more damage.

It does show how much pain he's used to playing with, due to his knees. A complete tear of his ham-string and he plays on for a few minutes, before walking off the pitch under his own steam. Most footballers would be carried off the moment it happens.

Poor bastard. As a United fan I find it hard to see past the waste of time and money he's been as a signing but I also feel incredibly sorry for him. He gets the move of his dreams and it ends up like this.

I don't get the "poor bloke", if he forced it then he must be stupid or something.
He was two minutes into his comeback after an absolute nightmare with his knees. He probably felt something and thought "Nah, can't be, no one's that unlucky..."

If he ever manages to play without any pain he'll probably start crossing like Bebe.

What's the prognosis for a "complete tear" of the hamstring? It sounds like you would need an operation. Several months out maybe?

Not with a hamstring no.I'd expect a pro footballer who must have a vast knowledge of injuries to know better.
I dunno. It's not unusual to get pain/tightness in one muscle or another and stretch/run it off during a game. It's not as though he kept going for ages either. He was only on the pitch for 6 minutes in total.

A guy like him with the injuries he's had shouldn't have taken that chance. At the first sign of pain he should have stopped

Shame. Can't see us renewing his contract or him having time to prove to us that he deserves one.

With the 25 man squad limit we just can't afford to have players who are constantly injured taking up one slot. He'll be gone in the summer. Probably into retirement.

i wonder has he gone back to munich with a receipt?

Just an unfortunate guy - still we've been lucky - in the last 20 years we had bad injuries to Neville and Solskjaer who have had their careers interrupted/cut short but apart from them you're going back quite bit (john curtis? i remember a very good young player from the original fergie's fledglings 1990 - Gill i think)

I think you're being very harsh. Can you imagine how badly he felt having to limp off in front of a full-house at OT after just 6 minutes of his long-awaited comeback? Are you really gonna criticise him for not leaving the pitch the instant he felt a twinge?

Alternatively, you have to wonder if he was using heavy painkillers.

A friend of mine played using a large dose of cocodamol (possibly codyromol, I forget which is the strong one) so he could ignore the dead leg he had and play in his league's cup final. He then rolled on his ankle and limped for a couple of minutes before running it off. He managed to play something like 70 minutes before noticing it was very stiff and starting to get sore. He was in agony that evening and went to A+E and had a scan and found out he had badly stretched all the ligaments and done some tendon damage and ended up missing the whole of the next season and he still gets trouble from it now.

It's very possible that Hargreaves plays with some sort of painkillers to manage his knees and if that's the case the other injuries he picks up could well be because his body doesnt know when it has over exerted itself.

I may be too harsh indeed but like I said a player who's been ravaged by injuries should not have taken that chance.Yes I understand the urge, the envy to play and even if it was only 6 minutes the consequences are terrible for him.

Seriously...do you have any emotional attachment to United whatsoever?

'Get rid'? You sound like a kid who's bored of his current toy and wants a new shiny one to play with.

So long as his knees are fine i'd be happy giving him a new contract.
