Yes, all the Scotland fans in the crowd earlier this week were all United fans. The Arsenal fans last week were also United fans pretending to be Arsenal fans just so they could boo Harry Maguire when he came on the pitch. I've never known fans go to these extremes just to abuse their own player.

It's just nonsense really. United fans were stupidly comparing him favourably to VVD at one point. They didn't turn on him till he had a full season of tragic performances and even then there were other players who got it worse.

Feck's sake.

This is a clearly a coordinated PR attempt to try and protect, defend, and promote him. Coming at a time when United have an injury crisis, have lost a few matches, and the manager has s few issues with players.

This the type of problems he, his agent will cause while he’s not a regular. Anyone that can’t see it and think it’s just random that Rodgers, his mum, Carragher etc are doing this at the same time really have no clue how PR and skulduggery works.

Also who is Carragher ? Didn’t he and Gerrard use to shout at players? Also “distasteful” does Carragher think his spit taste of sweets or something?

The strange thing for me is Maguire has never refused to play, has never questioned the manager, has never not been available, has stated several times he wants to play every game and will work hard in training to do so, has fronted up to the ridiculous criticism he has received, has never shied away.

Yet United fans pile on him more than most.
If anything it's a damning indictment of where United fans are with the club. Most would rather loathe and hate a player that has been a model professional, yet on the other hand support a player who systematically let the club down by tainting it's reputation.

It's a shame that football has basically come to this, a herd mentality on social media, whereby there's no shade or no nuances, it's either the player is God like or they are thrown to the lions with memes.
Embarrassing all round really.

I think Maguire is pretty crap but this is true.

What Southgate said in his presser was also very strong - coming out in support of what is basically now Maguire vs. a bunch of edgy memelords on the internet.

You wrote this post. It’s not ‘He’, it’s not ‘us fans’. It’s you. Take responsibility for your own actions.

It's 'he' because it's not Martinez or Varane scoring an own goal but Harry Maguire himself. And it's 'us fans' because I'm not the only one observing him make mistakes.

It started with those hysterical 'fan' channels that people like to parrot the opinions of rather than thinking for themselves.

You think pundits, if asked, should just let it slide and say yeah just a bit of funny banter innit? It's gone way too far at this point. They'll come out in defence, which I probably would too.

For context, this was Carragher's opinion when one of Liverpool's players was struggling with low confidence:

He made that comment because Karius wasn't playing well in one game. He came out in full support after Karius made those blunders in the final, which is arguably the most comparable situation to what's happening with Maguire right now.

How is Onana yelling at Maguire an example of it going too far? Keepers shout at defenders for making mistakes all the time. It just so happens that Maguire is more likely to get shouted by his teammates because he makes more mistakes than most CBs in a top team. Carragher is bringing that up in an attempt to belittle Onana, a new United signing - similar to how he tried belittling Martinez a year ago.

This doesn’t look like him being asked. It looks like him writing a piece on the telegraph. Something he does every week, so why didn’t he write about it when it happened? If it really is “One of the most distasteful incidents of all “ you’d think he’d have written about it sooner. Also out of all the physical assaults, racial abuse, etc a player shouting at another is what he finds offensive. I can show you a video of Rooney shouting at people and the commentators calling it great leadership.

FYI. You really should research how much these players are connected in regards to business outside of football. That often explains who they defend and won’t ever speak bad about. Eg perfect example was Danny Murphy’s constant sycophanting of a passed it Rooney on MOTD

Harry is going to step up this season.
Erik loves a positive mentality!

He’s starting to get a lot of sympathy now, which is fair because the abuse has been over the top. He’s still shite though.

It started with playing for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world. There's nowhere to hide when you're at a club of this size, Ten Hag has done his best to protect him but he still has to play at some point when we've got no defenders left, and Southgate has fed him to the wolves every chance he's got then blamed the fans for him scoring own goals.

VVD and TAA have been in equally bad form for months, do you hear about it? Nope because they play for Liverpool. What do you think fans would be saying about them if they played for United? Carragher running his mouth is basically admitting that United are bigger than his shitty little team ever will be. Xhaka was booed off the pitch by his own fans a few seasons back, no one gave a shit. Other fans have been extremely toxic to their own players over the years.

And this isn't a new thing, I remember in the 90's when that Stoke supporting Nick Hancock bellend used to talk shit about United at every opportunity he got and everyone loved it. ABU is rife within culture, it's got nothing to do with United fan's in any capacity.

Imagine if onana spit to a girl or wore a shirt of a racist as a sign of support

It would still be OK if he just wanted to garner sympathy for Maguire by arguing that people should give him a break. But implying that another United player had a go at him to endear himself and earn brownie points with the United faithful, is out of order.

If you don’t recognise the treatment of Maguire as bang out of order, you are part of the problem. It’s that simple.

Agreed.

And I'm not digging on 'all' fans, as some are able to see what's going on.
But there's a majority for whom every ill of the club rests upon Maguire's shoulders, which is so very far from the case.

Yeah nothing to do with stuff like this from 2 years ago (a million subscribers).

Now back up your point. What views am I parroting?

1) being wrong about a signing ? If that’s the case would you judge SAF for every wrong signing or every fan who thought Di Maria and Pogba were good signings until time started to speak?

2) The criticism is about the performance it’s pretty much what most people think. I doubt it was after his first or second or even 3rd bad performance. But was more likely after it was pretty much established that Maguire was crap and a problem. But was always getting selected and rather strangely the pundits and media were silent about his poor performances.

Goldbridge is just a fecking scumbag!
If people cannot see that then they need to have a good look at themselves.

I can't say I've ever watched any of his videos, don't see why anyone would. I've only noticed him because of hysterical clips and posters quoting him on here like his opinion is relevant somehow.

You make an absolute statement about someone’s character and give no factual reason to back it up. Then say anyone who doesn’t share your opinion has something wrong.

Your very post and manner of reasoning suggests you should have good look at yourself.

Will be good once this guy leaves the club. I honestly can't wait. No other club has this much fecking drama over their fifth choice center-back. This is the ultimate cliché, but it's only because he's English and once played well for the national team. The media and pundits wouldn't give two shits, if he was any other nationality, but they are desperate to go to bat for England's Harry.

Also, is Maguire really subject to abuse on social media, or is it just the usual memes and fail compilations? Because there is a huge difference between that, and what the likes of Saka and Rashford got after the Euro's - actual vicious abuse.
I mean Maguire has faced a bomb threat to his house. I'd consider that to be, well, somewhat disproportionate for the cardinal sin of not being particularly great at football.

I actually watched some of his videos in full.
I find the United Stand to be a relief from the cartel of pundits and commentators who all parrot the same nonsense, protect the same players, condemn other players. Eg Remember when Pogba was getting crucified on a weekly basis for his personality and character ?

On the whole most of the shows are just United news aggregation. Then he’ll discuss it, give his opinion if credible or not. Sometimes he has journalist on like Romano or Ornstein, other times it’s just a discussion about the club eg Sancho situation.

PS: the clips that go viral are probably match watch alongs. I’ve never watched those. But by the very nature he has to be animated to keep the audience engaged.

I wonder what ETH thinks of this whole ordeal. Surely he's not happy with all the drama surrounding his 5th choice CB

Pretty much, if people stopped watching him he'd be irrelavant

Do you think he consciously adopts his inner Alan Partridge as part of his schtick, or is this just genuinely what Goldbridge is like?

The players play the game, make the mistakes, win the headers, scores the own goals, yes.

But it’s not them who writes public comments of personal attack, mockery or ridicule, or sit beside the pitch and boo at them.

It’s fans who do that. Not all of us though. Some in particular. Only they are responsible for their own actions, the booing, the death threats, the public personal attacks. You are responsible for what you do. Not the players, nor other fans.

Cant help feel there will be another mess up for us along the season, and somehow it will be our fault

Sure. All fans, some fans, one fan or even half a fan. Whatever.

We are all fans so honestly who gives a crap? You can go through this thread and write the down the list of which exact fan likes or doesn't like him if you want, I couldn't care.

You can put me in the list that don't like him and I know that I am not alone with that opinion.

P.S. oh btw it would also be nice for Maguire to 'take responsibility' for his own crass crapness instead of telling us that he has 'nothing to prove'

New chant to the tune of As It Was by Harry Styles.

Come on Harry, we want to say goodbye to you,

Holdin' us back
Your play is holdin' us back
I want you to hold out the palm of your hand
And wave goodbye to us.
You can't play
When everything gets in the way
Seems that you can be replaced
And Varane is the one who will stay, oh

In this club, it's Varane,
You know that you're not good enough for us,
In this club, it's Martinez,
You know that you're not good enough for us,
Not good enough for us, not good enough for us,
You know you're the one to blame

Is there any United fan here confident about his actual Perfomance?

Like when his on the pitch you feel a certain security that we won't concede goals for fun!

Because I've not heard anyone actually saying stuffs beyond his perfomace, if he wants all this talks of Him to faze off he needs to put in good solid Perfomance then people would get off his

I lost count on how many times he call him 'shit'

Carragher is a shit-stirring prick. Nothing more to it than that.

yeah right, I'll listen to Carragher talking about Manchester United. Sure.

I wouldn’t say confident, no. I prefer him to Lindelof even now (although it does depend who we are playing against). I think a game with Harry is survivable provided everyone else does their job as well.

Harry hasn’t been playing as well as he can but the criticism is too much. He makes errors but they all do. His are much more publicised.

What I don’t like is the exaggeration. It’s perfectly possible to make a sound case that he is not good enough for us without ever saying anything that isn’t true and without ever being unpleasant. Posts like this seem to make people even more rabid, unfortunately.

(We should save our insults and vitriol for dippers and such!)

Maguire had an opportunity to rebuild his career at a more than fair wage but instead prioritised money. He plays like a janitor but gets paid like a CEO, so I don't get the worker argument, nor the mental health sympathisers.. He's a fat cat who's made his bed as far as I'm concerned.
