It's like Chelsea on steroids. But you know, these Arab owners are really playing this wrongly. In this kind of economic climate, having liquid cash like this is an immense advantage. Yet here they are flashing the cash and throwing it like it was going out of fashion.

If they spend wisely, 200m in the summer will transform the team beyond recognition. And with the right manager, they could well break into the "Top 4".

If, and I mean if, this story is true, how do City come up with this kind of figure exactly? Why not £83m, £97m, £112m or £204m?
That's because the rest of Europe uses Euro. His contract buy-out is 150m Euros.

Fair point.

Still don't see why anyone believes this story, there've been reports that they've made bids for Villa, Ibrahimovic, Torres and they've all been proven to be bollocks.

Was the Buffon story proven to be bollocks as well?

surely nobody is actually stupid enough to actually believe any of these huge fees being bandied about in the tabloid press ....... mind there were some who believed Madrid would pay 80-100 mil for Ronaldo ....... the mind boggles.

...and where back in for him. This time his price is considerably lower then the 129m in the original post (what was that anyways?)

United to make Real an offer they can't refuse for Casillas

Manchester United are ready to give back some of the £80 million they will revceive from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo for Spain goalkeeeper Iker Casillas.

Edwin van der Sar is 39 in October and Sir Alex Ferguson knows he must find a younger alternative for the Dutchman.
Apart from possibly Italy's Gigi Buffon, Casillas is rated the world's top goalkeeper by many observers though he has become a symbol of Real along with veteran forward Raul.
That would not deter Ferguson and despite a new era beginning at the Bernabeu with the arrival of Ronaldo and Kaka, the United manager hopes Casillas might be tempted by the challenge of playing for another one of European football's leading clubs.
New Real president Florentino Perez would be reluctant to lose Casillas but the goalkeeper could feel that he will become a bit part player among the new galacticos.

Casillas IMO will not leave Real Madrid as long as he remains 1st choice.. Which IMO will be for a long long time..

Fratton Park, play up Pompey!
He is a one club man i'd say. Couldn't see him not playing for Madrid, although if it happened that's not to say i wouldn't be chuffed. But it won't.

How can a first choice goalkeeper be a bit part player?
 was about to say that...

No doubt he's one of the best in the world, but I still think he's not commanding enough in the air to deal with some premiership teams like Bolton & Stoke.

All the money in the world (and let's face it, they have a significant percentage of it) won't help City punch above their weight. The arab dude bought the wrong club, by a long shot.

It's so easy being a sports writer, isn't it? Just make some shit up, and it hits the headlines. Casillas, Torres, Van Persie. What's next?

Why is this ?
Because they add every single player mentioned on the site to the database. That way when there's a story about one of the players, the system will automatically find all articles where the player (his ID) has been mentioned. - mess around with the number at the end of the link and you'll find all sorts of players.

Death by wanking if it happens. Always liked him. I Remember his stunning performance in the wc 2002 pretty well.
