Is it Rashford comparisons or is it because he is cocky?
Because the downplaying of Mbappe is hilarious. Yeah he has been utter cnut and had a very poor finishing this time around but saying he is trash and same level as Rashford and so on, is just bitter IMO.
And no Mbappe's biggest strength isn't pace but his tactical awareness.

Guys, please don't embarrass yourselves with the Rashford stuff. Mbappe was a car crash at the Euros but he's clearly better than Rashford.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Top, top player who can be as good as he wants. Had a terrible tournament where he believed his own hype more than he justified it. The diving and the arrogance did him no good. I don't think Messi, CR7 or even the tier below them with players like Neymar, Lewa, Modric, etc had a national tournament this poor.

Very good footballer, but that's it for me.

I remember when France beat Argentina in the world cup and they showed a picture of Messi and Mbappe with 'changing of the guard' or 'new era' or something to that effect. It was ridiculous to even act like Mbappe would even come close to a player like Messi.

The fee that was paid for Mbappe maybe is somewhat fair but it was extortionate too. Great footballer but I'd take someone like Hazard a few years over him, or Haaland. He is very good and young though.

The French get to watch Mbappe tearing up the French league every weekend so they're going to have inflated expectations of a player who's no where near world class yet. He's a good player but England have got players just as good as him sat on the bench who can't get a game. Difference is they don't play in a sub par league.

There's nothing to burst. He had a bad tournament. Doesn't mean he will necessarily have a bad next season.
He will have a good next season.... He plays in France where he will have plenty of opportunities to be a flat track bully.

No it's not. Get Mbappe playing for United and let Rashford play fodder week in week out in Ligue 1 -- They'd look similar.
Aye, Rashford would put up ridiculous numbers in that PSG side.
Hasn’t Rashford also outperformed him every single time they’ve met?

Both excellent young players, both have their periods of great and shite football. That one plays in such a dominant side certainly helps him though.

He is a very good player, but those predicting that he will be the next Ronaldo / Messi are way off the mark it seems.

He will probably always be a great goalscorer, but beyond that don't think he is the type of player who can really drag decent teams to the next level on his own.

Shocking all tournament and plays with far too much arrogance. Stopped doing the things that made him the player he was hyped up to be.
Last paragraph could actually be about rashford as well but I'm praying it's just injury related

Barca's Neymar is still a level above him. But he's still pretty young. Although it's most likely he won't develop that mad skill of Messi or even CR7. The later two were lucky to be managed by managers who were good developing young players in Pep and Sir Alex when they were young.

Meanwhile Mbappe was joining a club with a circus of managers.

Im not going to say he is poor technically, cause he isn't that, but between Haaland and Mbappe, you feel like this generation of top players are much more focused on the physical aspect rather than the technical one, compared to the one a couple of generations ago, and im not even talking about Messi, who is kind of unique anyway.

Is Mbappe even as technically gifted as, say, Henry or Robben?

Im not so sure, he may have a better career than either regardless though, so who can complain.

Amazing player, you only have to look at his involvement in the second goal to see his skill and ability. I agree with what others have said, it's time to leave the French league, clearly his development will be stunted playing against far weaker opposition each week.

You even have to look at how PSG lost that title this season, I think they have such a lazy attitude they feel they can field any team and still win each match and that came back to bite them on the arse so often. It's almost like he's playing for a travelling Globe Trotters team.

If he has any ambition of being the best player, he has to leave the French league. It looks like he is signing a new deal at PSG which would mean he stays for another 3/4 seasons, other clubs will find it difficult to match the wages PSG will give him.

It would be like the Messi situation however; Messi had Ronaldo in the same league and Real / Athleti who at least competed with them.

We have seen it over the last few years where whenever PSG face tough competition they struggle because they are not used to having that level of competition against them.

Whilst I’d agree Mbappe isnt technically as good as Henry or Robben, those are very high standard to be fair.

I think it’s only natural players become more focused on physical aspects. It’s easier to get someone incredibly fit and strong than it is to make them good at football.
Im not so sure, he may have a better career than either regardless though, so who can complain.

Even without Ronaldo in Spain, Messi has carried Barcelona like always. Mbappe is pampered by every coach he's had, last night he should have been subbed but they enable him and he won't learn. He needs to be coached by someone who has big cojones

Agreed on that, it seems coaches are scared to coach Mbappe and he almost does what he wants on the pitch. I think that comes down to playing for PSG though where he knows he is bigger than the coach.

If he doesn't get along with the coach, he will most likely create a fuss and the management will always side by Mbappe.

That all comes down to playing for PSG where they are so scared about upsetting Mbappe than anything else. Therefore. coaches just try to keep him happy.

He is not near Messi or Ronaldo levels, who at his age were carrying their club sides to CL victories and league titles.

That's why you'll never certain type of managers at PSG while he's there. The likes of Mourinho or Simeone, guys who are very demanding. It's a shame because it's exactly what he needs to reach the next level and be a true Ballon d'Or contender. Deschamps also fell into the "nice" category

Agreed, he also barely gets any criticism because he is always scoring goals in France. It depends what motivates him, he might be happy with his situation at the moment rather than motivated by the Ballon d'Or.

Wouldn't you back him to score in any country ?

His performances in the champions league are good.

He may have the right mentality (and the ego) but he doesn't have the talent to reach Neymar's level, forget Ronaldo. Comparisons to Messi and Ronaldo are laughable; Mbappe has shown not even a fraction of what they did at his age.

Neymar as a teenager in the Brazilian league was better than Mbappe is currently.

Mbappe is never going to hit the heights of Messi/Ronaldo. He likely won't hit Neymar's heights either since he lacks that innate natural talent, but you never know.

But some of you are being so hyperbolic.

"England have players sat on the bench as good as Mbappe"

Like come on

Bit of a disaster year for him, hasn't it?
Lose the CL-final to Bayern, with him missing a few big chances, to losing the league to bloody Lille, then going out in R16 with a terrible performance.

Oh sure, he had a good year in France individually, but you would expect that from a player of his talent.

He will bounce back though.

The Rashford-Mbappe comparisons is probably one of the worst takes floating around on here these days, which in itself is saying something. I don’t think this discussion exists anywhere else outside of here.

TBF it took Messi/Ronaldo to get players that could come close to/be better than Maradona/Pele. Don't know anyone would think Mbappe could ever get there. it's like a next gen tennis player being called a next goat after what we've just seen from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. It tales someone being superhuman to even get near that.

He was hyped as best young player since L.Ronaldo, won a WC a very young age, and regard as possible contender for future GOAT in the future era after Ronaldo/Messi. Not his fault he wasn’t that good though. The hype is just too much for him to handle.

How much are we over rating Mbappe with the Messi and Ronaldo comparisons and how much are we under rating Rashford after a difficult season? The Mbappe Rashford comparisons are much more accurate imo then the Mbappe heir to the throne of Ronaldo/Messi imo. They posses similar skill sets and have similar inconsistencies.

I do think Grealish is better player than Mbappe, whereas Sancho has as much talent as him, if not more.

Are you comparing him to Messi and Ronaldo because I'm not. It seems you are making one absurd comparison because of another?

It doesn't matter what their skillsets are. Mbappe is better, more productive, and far more intelligent. General play is superior too. He's clearly a better footballer to everybody who watches football barring some United fans.

Trainwreck of a thread.

Has anyone seen him in this season's CL? Destroying Barcelona? Or Bayern? No?
