Says the cultural norms at that time? Continue to brush the past with today’s norms though as that’s definitely better for society...Says who?

There's loads in England to this day. 160 +Grammar schools were abolished in the 1970s I think, as schools went into the comprehensive style. Apparently some still exist but they must be few and far between.
As a general school rule though, grammar is not taught in the UK.
I thought the fella was doing some sort of gag.Still have them in a few places. Since most of us here are United fans, they exist in Trafford where United are based as one example. I went to one, not that it shows.
I'm not 100% sure if you are joking, which makes it a good joke. Kudos.Grammar schools were abolished in the 1970s I think, as schools went into the comprehensive style. Apparently some still exist but they must be few and far between.

Maybe you are younger than me, but the concept of “grammar schools” was abolished a long long time ago. This doesn’t mean they completely disappeared of course. In fact, there was talk of bringing them back.I'm not 100% sure if you are joking, which makes it a good joke. Kudos.
There's over 200 grammar schools in the UK today and every single school in the UK teaches grammar.
Piers Morgan is a cnutAh, these times just remind us how right Piers Morgan is on most things - especially the woke/cancel culture.
So the N word was socially acceptable in 2012?Says the cultural norms at that time? Continue to brush the past with today’s norms though as that’s definitely better for society...
I'm 42, one of my friends of the same age went to a grammar school. He took a test and got in, his parents didn't pay a penny. My nephew went to one, again, he took a test and got in and his parents didn't pay a penny.Maybe you are younger than me, but the concept of “grammar schools” was abolished a long long time ago. A quick Google search told me there are still 229 grammar schools in the UK. There's fewer of them than 100 years ago but they're certainly still incredibly popular.
That’s what I thought of too (if it isn’t)
Underrated comment.
I am assuming this is a Southall/Owen reference.
I’ve just done a quick search myself and there are 24,323 schools in the UK in total, which makes the 163 grammar schools a huge minority. Grammar schools were abolished in 1976, with Comprehensive Schools taking their place. Some schools didn’t change their name and some maintained grammar school status (I don’t really understand how that works if they were abolished).I'm 42, one of my friends of the same age went to a grammar school. They were not abolished. So I see now. Which is odd as I thought they were banned and that Iwas unable to attend a Grammar School as they had been abolished. Maybe that’s just what my mother told me to make me feel better! I also thought Labour banned all selective schools later on.They were not abolished. There are grammar schools that were open and teaching today.
I mean, all of it really.Which part?
This is my local grammar school's website (their admission page). It's pretty clear they've not been abolished! Don't believe everything you read on the internet. So I see now. Seriously though, just put into Google “when were grammar schools abolished”
Then do you explain how the kids dem learn how make a proper sentence innit fam?Grammar schools were abolished in the 1970s I think, as schools went into the comprehensive style. Apparently some still exist but they must be few and far between.

Opening selective schools is banned, with existing grammar schools encouraged to change to comprehensive (parents vote).I mean, all of it really.
Yeah I’ve read it more clearly. Opening new grammar schools was abolished and existing grammar schools encouraged to change. Some voted to remain exclusive, but a very small percentage. This is my local grammar school's website (their admission page). It's pretty clear they've not been abolished! They don't need to learn a second language, our ancestors slapped Jonny foreigner around a bit and made sure they all speak the queen's.Opening selective schools is banned, with existing grammar schools encouraged to change to comprehensive (parents vote).
Grammar is not taught in a theoretical way... what are you trying to argue about that? Ask your friends if they know the difference between the future perfect continuous and the future simple, or when to use the subjunctive, or which are the indirect and direct objects of a sentence. Unless they’ve learnt a foreign language, they won’t know.
They doesn’t does they? Then do you explain how the kids dem learn how make a proper sentence innit fam?
Just cos you think you talk better grammar than what others do, don’t mean they don’t get teached it.Opening selective schools is banned, with existing grammar schools encouraged to change to comprehensive (parents vote).

No white text?Ah, these times just remind us how right Piers Morgan is on most things - especially the woke/cancel culture.
Grammar schools were Latin-led schools way back when. In our modern era they were simply schools that had an entrance exam, and still do. They haven’t been abolished.I’ve just done a quick search myself and there are 24,323 schools in the UK in total, which makes the 163 grammar schools a huge minority. I grew up in the 80s, thatcher and co had a real go at killing secondary education. They doesn’t does they?
Learning a mother tongue is usually done through exposure, rather than theory. I work in the education sector (not in the UK) and some schools thoroughly teach native grammar, others don’t touch it.
Certainly more so than now, especially in the context said in that tweet amongst 15 year olds. To punish someone for a harmless tweet a decade ago is absolutely ridiculous. Do intent and context mean absolutely nothing anymore? So the N word was socially acceptable in 2012?
Globally no. But I’m sure it’s helped many where it needed to.Might be unorthodox, but I don't think the concept of elevating the n word onto some weird sacrilegious pedestal has helped combat racism at all.
I just don't understand why you have a discussion about grammar schools. Many of these schools might require applicants to take an admission test, but that is all. The grammar schools are not specialized to teach English grammar. So it is a weird discussion. They doesn’t does they?

I disagree with that entirely, we’re talking 9 years ago, not the 60s, I can guarantee you that if Bowen had any sort of status back then, he would have been pulled up for it.Certainly more so than now, especially in the context said in that tweet amongst 15 year olds. I promise you that a 15 year old would not have been pulled up for saying that 9 years ago. 15 year olds did not have status then, and they shouldn’t now.I disagree with that entirely, we’re talking 9 years ago, not the 60s, I can guarantee you that if Bowen had any sort of status back then, he would have been pulled up for it.
And I don’t really see anyone arguing that he should be banned, or even punished, so I’m not sure why you’re arguing about context or intent.
did you never play an online video game in 2012?So the N word was socially acceptable in 2012?
2012 is the very recent past, and white dudes dropping N-bombs was just as unacceptable then as it is now.Says the cultural norms at that time? Continue to brush the past with today’s norms though as that’s definitely better for society...
