John Motson has died

This is just awful news.

A true legend of the sport and commentary of it.

Such a nice guy too it always seemed (never met him).

May he rest in peace - thank you for your service to football, of which you were one of the most iconic voices in history.

Football legend, much loved and a fantastic life.

The voice of some fantastic moments. RIP.

RIP, One of the true great Commentator's and very knowledgeable and didn't shirk from upsetting managers either by asking question's

Childhood memories listening to him.

Will never forget "Oh he's floated one over David James. That's absolutely marvellous." when Rooney chipped James in an FA Cup match against Portsmouth.

Terrible news. His passing is so sudden and so sad. To call 29 FA Cup Finals, 9 World Cup Finals and 8? European Championship Finals is remarkable. He was excellent behind the mic. I hope the BBC show their tribute program for ''Motty'' titled ''Motty: The Man Behind The Sheepskin''. It was excellent.

Always loved his commentary, especially when Ireland equalised late against Germany in the 2002 World Cup.

"LOOK AT THESE SCENES, JUST LOOK AT THESE SCENES!"

RIP

The last of the great commentators from my youth gone. Very sad. You can hang up your sheepskin coat now. Rest in peace Motty.

It looks like a one man show here, although there are two men involved.

Like an annual event seeing him in that sheepskin coat covering some random FA Cup 3rd round tie.

RIP.

I did have the pleasure and he was a gentleman. One of those people you just warm to instantly.

YouTube channels ''1980's Football Heaven'' and ''Classic Football Matches''+ will have stacked of old MOTD episodes with Motson's commentary if you want to reminisce.

I once walked past him on Bath road late one night after finishing a rather rubbish day at work. It was abit surreal.

Legend. Was always my favourite commentator

He was up there with the very best. So easy to listen to. And it makes me sad to think about the clowns we have now.
Thank you John.

How he worked with Lawro all those years without losing the will to live is a real achievement.
